Starting off the non-top 20 results we have Nathan Dawe who somehow still manages to score hits in 2025 though this year may be where he finally joins Jonas Blue, Joel Corry, Jax Jones and Sigala in the has-beens of generic dance party. Selena Gomez meanwhile made a whole album with husband and record producer Benny Blanco - the sole top 40 hit from the project was assisted by one of the current it girls of pop Gracie Abrams. Another dance track falls outside the top 40 here being the breakthrough for Austrian DJ Ely Oaks. It was quickly followed by another which missed the cut off round but further releases have made no impression. A run of K-pop now; Twice managed two hits assisted by featuring on the soundtrack to Demon Hunters, the first of which was a needless cover version of one of the Huntr/x songs whose version was bigger albeit not allowed to chart. Two Blackpink members take the next positions, firstly Jennie with a self braggadocios hit and afterwards Jisoo who bagged Zayn for a collab, the star power of which took her a whopping one position higher than her one previous chart appearance. Mark Ronson and Raye who both recently performed at the Brits, albeit not together as this collab wasn't much of a hit - 'Suzanne' was a smaller teaser for Raye's forthcoming second album which was led by the much bigger 'Husband' soon after.

Three titles from the year's Eurovision managed to briefly break the top 40 - the first of these perhaps the most unexpected to make the chart being the German entry which for once was actually sang in German. Whilst not finishing amazingly high in the scoreboard it was a fan-favourite regardless thanks to its catchiness and modern dance production. An English language version was hurriedly recorded afterwards but the moment had passed by then for it to further smash. Twice appear, ahem, twice, in the bottom ten - 'Strategy' was also featured in the Demon Hunters film but wasn't also a Huntr/x song this time. Jorja Smith once again got a bit of UK garage in the chart albeit this one was only a top 40 scrape. Another hit for the genre came from Sammy Virji who was one of the year's breakout dance producers, very much assisted by Skepta who also lent his vocal to a bigger Fred Again hit in the year. The triangle would soon be completed with Sammy & Fred teaming up on a top 20 hit yet to appear in that poll's results. Between them we had a random dance remix of a years-old Beluga Lagoon song get viral, a rare Scottish DJ whose name is not Calvin Harris to chart who took the sole credit for this version. SZA brought out a deluxe re-issue of 'SOS', now a whopping 42 tracks long because America rewards stream-trolling. 'BMF' was the biggest hit from the new songs despite a Kendrick Lamar collab also sitting on the list (which did go top 40, but didn't make it out of the qualifier round). Twenty One Pilots continued to retain their fanbase and got another fleeting hit to lead their most recent album. They out-did themselves this past week chart-wise with 'Drag Path' so could very well appear higher up the 2026 poll, assuming it doesn't re-peak in the top 20. Meanwhile woman of the moment Olivia Dean has her first of two appearances here, the track in question was her first hit since the Amazon Alexa assisted Christmas cover from 2021 being a sign of much bigger things to come.

'Here In Your Arms' is a bit generic but a nice enough song that probably sounded better in the resorts! Yeah it seems like Nathan Dawe's last chart hit sadly.

Ely Oaks kind of in the same category as Levi Heron with an unlikely hard dance hit. Blackpink also brought the genre back with the ending of 'Jump'.

'The Way I Love You' and 'Cops and Robbers' are good garage tunes, the former with a good bassline and the latter had a crazy violin sample which worked well.

Doja Cat had a fairly lacklustre chart performance with her new album having only produced a top 20 hit and a very minor top 40 in 'Gorgeous' to follow, we'll have to see how much better 'Jealous Type' can fare in the other poll. Olivia Dean is back again with another album track that had a short chart run being abruptly ended by Christmas and 'So Easy' getting a new year's reset. Her friend Sam Fender currently sharing residence at (fake) #1 also appears with an album track. Halloween proved more popular this year or at least you'd have thought so looking at the chart when really it was the OCC being looser than ever about restrictions on chart resets. In any case the benefit of that was a belated top 40 appearance for Andrew Gold's seasonal effort that would've otherwise made it two years before (its #55 position was with ACR applied). The song was recorded in 1996 but more recently given a remix that is the more popular version, not that Andrew would ever have heard it having died in 2011. Lola Young matches the 23rd position 'One Thing' had in the top 20s poll with the follow-up hit 'D£aler' which I presume was not announced on the radio as 'DPoundSignAler'. A rare country hit and an even rarer case of a GOOD country hit now, a track I'd hoped would finish a lot higher but alas 'Indigo' misses the top 20 again being so far the sole hit for both Sam Barber & Avery Anna. Meanwhile we have Lana Del Rey with what may or may not have been the first single from forthcoming album which may or may not have a different name again.

I will predict FUFN, but your probably right, won't be enough pop voters for Jade to win.

Starting off the top 20 we have Imogen Heap with her very belated first chart hit - 'Headlock' was first released in 2006 however saw a new lease of life on TikTok prompting a top 40 entry at the start of the year. Next up two Eurovision songs, the first of which was very handsomely rewarded by the televoting public and the other which in the infamous UK fashion scored nil points from European viewers. Tommy Cash had already been one of Estonia's most established artists having guested on a Charli xcx song but went on to give the country their best placement since 2002 with a novelty song about coffee. Female vocal trio Remember Monday were chosen as the UK's entry and were narrowly the country's favourite of the contest in the week following. Tyler, the Creator had a very prolific year releasing 2 albums in the span of 9 months. The only lasting hit from album #2 proved to be 'Sugar On My Tongue'. The similarly named Tyla also had a minor hit at the start of the year in 'Push 2 Start'. We will see her again in the 2026 top 20 hits poll. House DJ Sonny Fodera had one of the year's unluckiest top 20 misses with 'Tell Me', having spent the best part of 3 months between 23-29. It started another good year for vocalist Clementine Douglas who soon had her biggest hit to date guesting on Calvin Harris' 'Blessings'. Irish band Fontaines D.C. had quickly gained even bigger prominence with the rollout of fourth album 'Romance' that saw them scoring minor charting singles for the first time. It eventually culminated in deluxe re-issue promo 'It's Amazing To Be Young' charting their first top 40 with the newfound fanbase. Katseye were recently launched as a multinational girlband hoping to follow the success of K-pop groups, so far they've been moderately successful with two top 40 hits, the first and bigger of these being 'Gabriela' which sits at 13th before we rewind the clocks back for the last two. Firstly the death of Ozzy Osbourne prompted 'Crazy Train' to belatedly reach the top 40, having missed out on its original release in 1980. He also returned to the top 20 with 'Paranoid' as lead for Black Sabbath, though that had already been a #4 hit. The reunion tour for Oasis saw a number of their tracks return to the chart but also a couple make it in for the first time - 'Slide Away' was originally an album track from 1994's 'Definitely Maybe' however a recent live recording was put out as a single which prompted it to chart for a week.

One of the year's big breakthroughs was Sombr who had four top 10 hits in the span of the last 12 months. In between these however was 'We Never Dated' which didn't perform so well just edging the top 40 not helped by his two previous hits still riding high in the chart at this point. It was still a good effort from him though that perhaps ought to have stuck around a little while longer. No more male acts until the top five now - firstly we have former TikTok influencer Addison Rae who last year proved herself to be a serious popstar with her debut album. 'Headphones On' was the first of two hits in the year, the second which will appear later. Another pop girlie with two songs here we have PinkPantheress. Leading her 'Fancy That' album (one of the year's best in dance-pop) was 'Tonight' which was only a minor top 40 hit but perhaps a sign of bigger things to come. 'Illegal' then followed quickly racing back up the chart a few months after the album launch thanks to a TikTok viral trend featuring the opening verse. PinkP now sits in the top five with 'Stateside' thanks to Zara Larsson's input on the remix. She sandwiches Miley Cyrus, whose apocalyptic album lead underperformed a fair bit with the general public after she'd previously had 2023's biggest hit in 'Flowers' although it was still a fave with the online pop fanbase.

Some of the songs finishing ahead of 'Headlock' here are offensive xx (how is that as low as #20? -_-)

'Berghain' to win obvz x

If the voting had been post Brits, I think Berghain would have been a certainty, but as it is I'm unconfident

Finishing top five in both polls this year is Lady Gaga as 'Garden of Eden' commences at fifth place here. The song proved to be the fan-favourite album track upon the release of 'Mayhem', narrowly ahead of other missed-single opportunities 'Vanish Into You' and 'How Bad Do U Want Me'. It was rumoured to get a single push however this never materialised as she had 'The Dead Dance' (#3 in the non-top 10 hits poll) in the waiting instead. The bigger of Addison Rae's two hits last year proved to be 'Fame Is A Gun', which also saw a minor chart resurgence this year, released as the launch single into her self titled debut album. Being a catchy upbeat electro pop track it was the first of hers I was a proper fan of. Taking the bronze medal to hang up next to her BRIT award we have Rosalía. Released as the lead for fourth album 'Lux' it received a lot of critical praise for the orchestration and her operatic vocal. Less expected perhaps, was a UK top 40 position, only the second in her career (the first being heavily aided by Billie Eilish). It was also the first chart appearance for Icelandic singer Bjork in just over 20 years and Yves Tumor's debut for their English-language guest appearances. As the first Rosalía song I highly rated its appearance this far up is great to see.

Tomorrow evening: Jade vs. Tame Impala
