It was the third single to be taken from their second album 'Actually'. The first two, 'It's A Sin' and 'What Have I Done To Deserve This?', had peaked at number 1 and number 2 respectively.

In 2003, Paramount acquired an option to make a film based on the lyrics. The option has expired and Avril has said she might now produce it herself.
Sunday at 18:432 days Rent is one of my most listened to Pet Shop Boys tracks. The lyrics are wonderful and I enjoy the comparatively understated production as it really complements the vocal delivery
Sunday at 18:452 days Sk8er Boi is still an iconic bop feels so much bigger than a number 8, im suprised the PC brigade havent demanded a lyric change yet though

It slipped out of the top 40 after four weeks but ended up spending 79 weeks in the top 100 and reaching a new peak of number 8 in September 2024 after the group announced that they were reuniting for a tour.
Sunday at 18:592 days 'Smack My Bitch Up' is not quite as earth-shattering as that era's previous singles but that's a high bar and it's still great, very dynamic. A classic album indeed.'Here Comes The Rain Again' is my favourite Eurythmics single. Absolute stunner and without the overplay of 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)'.'Rent' is another '80s synth-pop favourite. I agree with Dandy that those lyrics steal the show yet the production is subtly appealing as well.'Live Forever' is Oasis' best song for me pleased it was able to achieve a new peak from their tour impact.
Sunday at 19:012 days I like the Pet Shop Boys for the most part but outside of the lyrics Rent just doesn't have much going on for me. Sk8er Boi is a pop punk classic, always loved it. Thank goodness Live Forever didn't win! I think it's a good song and one of my favourites from Oasis but I hate to give praise to Liam and Noel, two of the most dislikeable and overrated musicians ever.
Sunday at 20:572 days It's that word again - three bonafide CLASSICS in a row!I would really struggle to pick a PSB top 5 because they have so many iconic songs but I'm pretty sure 'Rent' would be in it. Great also that its use in Saltburn allowed a younger generation to discover it. Liza Minelli's version is nice enough but it's not a patch on the original IMO.'Sk8r Boi' is probably a tad overplayed these days but is still great to sing along to on the radio! Can't really go wrong with 90s Oasis and 'Live Forever' definitely deserves its place here, even though I would rank a few other of their 90s singles above it. So happy I was lucky enough to see them perform it at Wembley last year!
Sunday at 21:152 days Sk8er Boi is my childhood gem, although there were many better tracks on Avril's debutOasis is one of the worst bands ever. Period. They have 2-3 good songs but their attitude make me never come back to their music. Awful awful people. Edited Sunday at 21:192 days by jszmiles
Sunday at 21:262 days 3 brilliant songs. I have always loved ‘Rent’ and feel it is an overlooked classic, but delighted to see it so high. I prefer it to Suburbia - though I think ‘Suburbia’ is probably more commercial.Surprised ‘Fade To Grey’ and ‘Family Affair’ are so high. All the other songs are in my top 25 (though I did initially shortlist ‘Family Affair’ in the nominations round).
Sunday at 21:482 days Live Forever going out leaves me left with only one of my top 15 songs and my original nominations. It was actually my #1 song of ‘94 when I made my favourites list back then, but I think recent relentless hype seems to have caused ‘Oasis fatigue’ for most of their songs (Some Might Say excepted). Maybe with a bit of time my enthusiasm for them might return?I really can’t call what the order of the top 11 will be now, but I’m excited to find out.I still like them all really. Yesterday at 08:181 day "Rent" is another good PSB song, but not among my twenty favourote songs by them. The upcoming PSB song much more. "Sk8ter Boy" is pure fun - a great song! I like a lot of Oasis song, but never get into "Live Forever" much. If I could choose one Oasis song it would be "Stand By Me".
Yesterday at 08:291 day Half The World Away is my favourite Oasis Song but Live forever was a great song to crack the top ten with.

The best version is the nine minute one which can be found on their 1986 'Disco' album.
Yesterday at 18:311 day Actually "Suburbia" is one of my favourite PSB songs - a pity that it missed the Top 10 by one position.
Yesterday at 18:411 day Author 10. Visage - Fade To Grey 1230ptsWriters - Billie Currie, Chris Payne, Midge UreTop scores - Yog1963 50, Jade 50, Scone1 50Low scores - Jason 1, gasman449 5, vibe 7Average score - 28.6Fade To Grey started as an instrumental called 'Toot City' which was worked on by Billie Currie and Chris Payne while they were touring as part of Gary Numan's backing band. It then ended up as a Visage song with Midge Ure adding lyrics and some of the melody. Fade To Grey was in the top 10 at the same time as 'Vienna' by Ultravox, the other group that Midge Ure and Billie Currie were part of. It was Visage's only top 10 hit, other singles from them peaked at 11, 12 and 13. Three scores of 50 mean it wins a tie-break over 'Suburbia'.
