March 29Mar 29 I've been a bit up and down on Genie In A Bottle over the last 27 years, but I really have grown to love it.Such a brilliant debut single.

March 30Mar 30 Love it so much Don't know how controversial a thing to say this is, but I regard it as a better debut than 'Baby One More Time'

March 30Mar 30 Author 03 Mis-Teeq - Scandalousavg: 9.14👑 Pop Royalty: 11 (lewistgreen, vibe), 10 (Scene, leww, ...ready for it, blacksquare, Jade, Jack, Chez Wombat, JosephStyles, HarryGarfield, Nina West, Brer)❌ Pop Flop: 7 (Lee_J11, Viper*, Chapman), 8 (Mango, DaTilt, Padamic_Tension, Jessie Where, AllStarBySmashMouth)Mis-Teeq rocked BuzzJack's world as 'Scandalous' has achieved a podium position in the rate, with an impressive 9.14 average.Alesha Dixon, Sabrina Washington and Su-Elise Nash broke through with the UK Garage sound of early hits 'Why?' and 'All I Want', although also incorporated an R&B direction elsewhere on debut album Lickin' on Both Sides. That latter sound carried over to sophomore album Eye Candy, including lead single 'Scandalous', a suggestive R&B force with memorable strings and sirens. This song was written by the girls alongside Norwegian trio Hallgeir Rustan, Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen - aka StarGate, with the latter two members also producing the track. StarGate were still largely collaborating with British artists at this point, until their work with Ne-Yo, Rihanna and Beyoncé really pushed them into more of an international standing in 2006. 'Scandalous' music video director Jake Nava can also boast a Beyoncé connection, as he has a few directorial credits for her self-titled era - namely on 'Partition', 'Grown Woman' and 'Flawless'. He also worked with fellow Pop Princesses Atomic Kitten and P!nk. 'Scandalous' was released in 2003 and reached #2 in the U.K., matching the peak of 'All I Want' and becoming the girls' sixth top 10 hit overall. It was blocked by the second week of Gareth Gates and The Kumars' 'Spirit In The Sky' release for Comic Relief. 'Scandalous' was the highest new entry that week, edging ahead of Richard X vs. Liberty X's 'Being Nobody' and Blue's 'U Make Me Wanna' in that top 5. It later made #40 in 2003's EOY chart. Mis-Teeq also achieved some transatlantic success when 'Scandalous' made #35 on the Billboard Hot 100. Television host Carson Daly had heard the song while travelling in Europe and urged Warner to release it in the U.S. too. A self-titled Mis-Teeq compilation was subsequently put together for that market with 'Scandalous' as its lead single. The song also gained further exposure through its use in media, such as appearing on the soundtrack for Catwoman. Britney Spears' 'Outrageous' was originally envisioned as the film's theme song instead but this idea was scrapped after Britney broke her knee on the set of the intended music video. 'Scandalous' was particularly special, like diamonds and pearls, for lewistgreen and vibe who awarded it their 11 score. This song has universal appeal on the forum, with its lowest marks from Lee_J11, Viper* and Chapman still being as respectable as 7/10.
March 30Mar 30 “Complicated” and “Genie In A Bottle” are both brilliant debuts, though both artists went on to have hits that reflected their individual styles more. “Scandalous” as high as 3 is a surprise but I’m here for it. I do think Mis-Teeq were good even if their career wasn’t long - they brought something different and this was by far their best song.

March 30Mar 30 I still have one more 9 pointer. The other was an 8 (8.5 in the SEB rate). Edited March 30Mar 30 by AllStarBySmashMouth
March 30Mar 30 A pity that "Genie In Bottle" has no medal place. Did not expect "Scandalous" that high, eventhough Mis-Teeq were really great - I like the "Matt 'Jam' Lamont & DJ Face Classic Vox Mix" of their debut most from them. Hope Sophie will win this now.
March 30Mar 30 This was a killer way to kick off the second album era for Mis-Teeq, it's a shame due to a number of factors that ended up being their last album. Probably wouldn't have imagined that when this was released!
March 30Mar 30 Definitely a bit of a surprise to see Mis-Teeq beating out the likes of Christina and Avril for a podium position here but I am here for it *.* though the latter two are both very good too (I'm not that big on Christina's discog as a whole but it got off to a very strong start!)Going to go a bit against the grain of some of the posts in the thread and say 'Get The Party Started' is still one of P!nk's best songs, it's maybe the song from this tracklist that I remember most clearly bopping to as a kid. (Though it will forever slightly irk me that the title is not 'Get This Party Started' despite that clearly being what she says). So the top 2 is now my 11 vs. one I gave a 5 lol. Should have tactically given an even lower score anyway to t.A.T.u. just to minimise the chance of them winning I fear (although I wonder if, should it win, this would be a second rate in quick succession where I gave the winner its lowest score following 'Girl, so confusing' in the BRAT rate hehe)
March 30Mar 30 Scandalous is such a great song and it's only grown on me over the last two and a bit decades.I do prefer One Night Stand though.
