She was so lovely, I was honestly so nervous to the extent I think I almost had a panic attack in the shop! Was on the verge of tears and trying to calm myself down, she really does mean so much to me has truly inspired me to become who I am today really (I know it sounds ridiculous but it's true). She was really sweet and when I said I was from Leeds she made a joke saying "oh do you know my friend who lives here, Mel B?" really broke the tension and made me laugh. 😂😍

At least with those two, people actually got up off their arses to get them to number 1He would if that was how people consume music now, he has a huge dedicated fanbase. Sam’s legacy is already destined to be far bigger than Wet Wet Wet’s - and his debut album was only in 2019.

Tell us how the convo went!I laughed and said "oh I think I've heard of her yes" 😂 I was a bit speechless, said first of all I'm deaf and rely on lipreading to communicate and she put the CD she was going to sign down and said "OK I need to look at you and I'll speak a bit slower with my (me) Scouse accent." Melanie then asked if I was going to the album launch show and I said yes I was, and it was about time she performed in Leeds as I've travelled all over the country to see her perform (Glasgow, London, Brighton, Warwick, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham), then she said "Oh are you from Leeds? Do you know my friend Mel B?" I laughed and said "Oh I think I've heard of her yes." The shop were trying to rush us along and she told them "Just a minute please." then commented on the TShirt I was wearing which was from her 40th birthday concert saying "I see you came to celebrate my 40th, did you make it to the 50th last year?" and I said I did and that it had been such a manic rush as I got the train from work that Friday and my hearing aid broke that day so I managed to get an emergency appointment at the hospital for it which my school let me leave early for, but literally had minimal time to dash for the train after. She said she was really glad I made it and thanked me for my support saying "We've had a fun 30 years haven't we?" and I said "Literally the best!" Then she signed my CD and gave me a hug, posed for photos and did a few extra as I wanted one with the SPORTY 40 across my back with her in it.She then saw my husband (who is a bit of a fan now thanks to me - he has to be as I drag him every where to see her lol) but she still had the post it with my name and nearly wrote that on his CD before realising and going "hang on, you're Matthew, have you both got the same name?" And he says "no my name is Paul" and she replied "Oh I don't need a post it I know how to spell that one." I burst out laughing and she winked at me and said "you get it don't you!" (her brother's name is Paul - had to explain it to my hubby when we left). Went to the album launch show later that night and Mel B turned up with her husband (and instantly got mobbed by fans). Melanie made her get up on stage and they did Spice up your life together. 🥰 I was a bit drunk (suffering this morning) and had a brilliant time, really was one of the best days ever in the end (after the anxiety leading up to it lol)

At least with those two, people actually got up off their arses to get them to number 1If Sam Fender does get close to breaking the record like Drake did, it would probably get negative media coverage and probably prompt a rule change from the OCC for the chart. Which might be a good thing in the long run.Although I reckon the media and the public would probably be a lot friendlier to the concept of Sam Fender breaking the record than they were to Drake (he's British, he's crosses over to adult contemporary like Radio 2 so more of the older generations will actually know who he is, his songs use real instruments, etc).
May 3May 3 If he breaks it he breaks it hes clearly popular with the public and thats what the Official charts is essentially forIf he stays top for the next 6 weeks the record breaking week would also coincide with its anniversary which would also be very fitting

At least with those two, people actually got up off their arses to get them to number 1‘Deserve’ is a bit of a strong word - it’s a totally different market now, we have no idea of knowing how Wet Wet Wet and Bryan Adams would’ve fared in a streaming market or how Sam would have performed in a physical only market, what we do know is in their respective years they were the most popular songs with the metrics available to them. Also, I got up off my arse at waited from 2am to get the RSD release for RMI, would have happily done the same for the re-issue vinyl had it been available to buy in stores. And if your gripe against a song being #1 because people don’t have to get up off their arses to buy it then you must feel the same way about all #1s (or any song in the singles chart) for the past 10+ years.

May 3May 3 Sam Fender would have to get 19 weeks to break the all time record I can’t see him hanging on for quite that longthe Drake thing was him nearly equalising the consecutive record which Sam can’t do

And Mel sounds like the loveliest person ever, though I'm not surprised about that! The only bit of your post I didn't quite get was the Matthew/Paul thing, are you Matthew and your hubby's Paul?
May 3May 3 Mel’s team need to full on spam socials this week - she’s already at capacity with shows and signings so they need to roll out anything else they can in terms of reductions, bundles etc.,I’m sure she’s already over the moon with the results so far but to be close to a first solo #1 album or a highest peaking one I hope they pull out all the stops.
