Since when did Wonderwall become a football song?

It’s been a thing for a while and is played in stadiums - seems to have taken off even more this year.

Same for other ‘non’ football songs that become associated with the game - Sweet Caroline, Freed From Desire, Yes Sir I Can Boogie etc

  • I can understand why today's Spotify chart may seem a bit underwhelming compared to the album bomb on Apple, but a 67-year-old artist debuting in the Spotify top 50 with brand new solo material is not

What do you mean "Oh well"? You can't be disappointed with a solo Madonna song making the Top 50, surely??

Since with Manchester City at the 1995-96 football season with England at this year's World Cup.

Spotify / Football Effect

#2 Wonderwall

#6 Three Lions

#74 Vindaloo

#118 Sweet Caroline

#131 World In Motion

#148 Freed From Desire

'Rein Me In' has dropped in streams from yesterday, I think it's safe to say it isn't being helped by the World Cup.

The main reason it’s taken off so much is that Wonderwall has replaced Sweet Caroline as England’s post-match song.

Thankfully!

Sweet Caroline is awful! made even worse by how much people seem to love it

'Wonderwall' coming for the (official) Top 10 return it missed out on in 2024.

What happened to the "300% increase" for 'Three Lions'...

Both Sweet Caroline and Wonderwall are absolute rubbish, wish England fans had taste...

It’s been dropping since last week - I think we’ve reached the point of people moving on from it now.

Guessing it”ll be ACR-2 this week.

Wow, could we have yet another of the all time best selling number 2s finally lose that status? Though it will depend on England's performance over the next week, they'll need to at least win Saturday's match.

RMI will go to dcl2 then they're release the vinyl and pass scr again and we gotta wait all over again

so could RMI only get 17 weeks at number 1 just shy of the record

Depends on if its streams increase in the next week or 2

Given how it usually goes, it'll decline this week.

Then rise next week and go back on SCR.
