at this point it will definatley be christmas number 1 don't know how many total weeks at #1 it would be at if it does it gonna guess around 20 weeks till then so that will be 38 weeks at #1 cheeseblock

22 weeks until christmas could put it on potentially as many as 40 (if by some minor miracle it managed it 🤣)

I think along with the drastic changes to the industry meaning the charts are being dominated by select artists, social media and streaming giants which has never been seen before, I just think it's too hard for new artists to break through with the economy as it is and cost of living skyrocketing, record labels are at risk of going bust if they don't get results and streaming services don't half take advantage of smaller artists, and that's not even taking AI into the equation. Unless you've got industry connections, are a highly marketable prospect or managed to build a small following, it's really hard for up and coming artists. The live/touring circuit is more likely where a lot of the money is these days.

I suppose 2026 has lacked a huge undeniable pop culture moment like Brat, K-Pop Demon Hunters etc. or headline-grabbing phenomenon artists like Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roan, Could still happen I guess, these things do tend to take us all by surprise.

Thing is we’ve had some of the worlds biggest pop stars releasing new eras throughout RMI run at the top and most of them had one week wonders and fell.

Yeah, the likes Ariana and Olivia are well established stars with established fanbases that have arguably already peaked commercially, so while they were guaranteed initial success, you can't always capture the same lightning in a bottle after so many times, my point is there are no newer artists breaking through having that killer breakthrough to be on the same level like there have been in previous years, it feels like it's gradually stagnated since 2024 where I would now struggle to name any defining songs and artists of 2026 that were unique to this year.

That earlier post saying as of now, in late July, just 20 songs released this year have made the Top 10...

As someone who got into the charts in the late 90s, I find that staggering. You'd have hit 20 by early/mid February back then.

I understand the argument that the charts are meant to reflect what's popular. But if everyone in Britain wanted to listen to Wonderwall in 1999, they'd play their Wonderwall single or What's The Story CD (that they bought in 1995) a few times. And those plays wouldn't count for any chart.

Now they do count. And it's killing the top 40 stone dead. I think they have to change the rules somehow to narrow the time window of what music qualifies for the chart (just like physical availability did for decades pre streaming). Otherwise a few years from now it's hard to see where any new chart songs or artists are going to come from.

Where is Confessions 2 ?

Shakira at 2 and Ella not far from 3, hope both are top 3 come Friday ❤️

I wish OCC would stop resetting Die With A Smile and poor Mr Brightside is gonna miss the top 40

Die With a Smile hasn't been reset again, it's been on SCR for ages.

Shame he won’t push any of the material from his latest album. Maybe push Risk It All or On My Soul

Shakira added at least 11k since Monday compared to 10k from Rein Me In. I think she's been doing way better outside of Spotify so could we see an upset on Friday?
