8 hours ago8 hr Love that we are looking at a chart battle for the first time in a while. Rooting for Shakira, as unlikely she will have another chance. Also not convinced this is Sam’s last chance to get that extra week at #1. Ariana is certainly not guaranteed to bag it next week.
8 hours ago8 hr Utterly bizarre to do this in the dying hours of Thursday when it was there very easily for the taking all week, guess the label got yesterday's figures in and panicked. As I said earlier in the week though, no way they were going to sit back and do nothing, just odd it took this long. It's a shame for me because I agree that Dai Dai is unlikely to get another chance, the World Cup is becoming more of a memory each day. It's done very well to hold up as it has but I can't see it doing so for ages.

I don’t know how yall can root for anything to get a 19th week at #1 over Shakira getting her first #1 in 19 years and probably last Edited 8 hours ago8 hr by No Sleeep

Diana (1980) was the biggest album of her career, and then from a UK perspective she got her biggest hit 6 years later with Chain Reaction after a few flop eras. I do think this proves it is harder for artists to maintain a repeak though, which makes Kylie’s the most impressive imo, the 00s was her strongest decade by far.In terms of re-peaks, I'd probably say Take That had the most impressive in the UK that I can think of. They really did sustain that second era for a long time. Kylie did fantastically well also though.

8 hours ago8 hr For me personally the number one going to a song by two homegrown British artists who rose to prominence organically (one of those being an artist I've been aware of since before their mainstream breakthrough) which is breaking a record, showing it is still possible for new British artists to make it in an industry where the odds are becoming more and more stacked against them, and igniting conversation in people who don't follow the charts as closely, is more appealing than Dai Dai getting it as much as I enjoyed this year's World Cup and respect Shakira.

8 hours ago8 hr Going to? They already have it though for 18 weeks now, they can move over for a couple of weeks
8 hours ago8 hr Would personally love if either of the #1 contenders could be a song that's better than a 6/10 but hey ho.

I think it's a mixture of "let's see how long it could stay atop without stepping in" vs. "oh! we're battling with another song, so we need to do something now" during the week.Between "Rein Me In" and "Dai Dai", I also think that this is the last chance of the latter, so Sam's team wants to secure this one in case of new future releases from the following weeks and songs which are climbing on DSPs. I guess "petal" seems the most logical contender for next week, but it's also too early to see how Ariana's team will do in terms of the single, especially in the UK.
8 hours ago8 hr I wouldnt be suprised if Dai Dai makes a reappearance at the next world cup as well like Waka Waka

7 hours ago7 hr Yeah if I knew for sure Ariana wasn't going to threaten for the top and there was 100% another chance for Sam to get a 19th week I'd be rooting for Dai Dai this week! And best believe if RMI does get a 19th I'll start rooting against it if it doesn't go ACR ASAP - hold me to that ♥️

Those songs are one in a million. If Dai Dai misses out this week the minuscule chance that it could somehow become a perennial classic and return to #1 every World Cup isn’t… Isn’t exactly the same as Rein Me In inevitably climbing back to #1 the next week is it.

7 hours ago7 hr It's obviously very unlikely Dai Dai will get to #1 in years to come. I'm way more of a fan of Dai Dai than Rein Me In so I've downloaded a few versions of the former, beating the all-time record is far less exciting to me than Shakira getting her first #1 single in 19 years.

7 hours ago7 hr Shakira does also have 'Dare (La La La)'I'm sure she'll come up with another World Cup song in the future - heck, we might even have enough for an album one day!
7 hours ago7 hr I never really knew that they could score like thisThey make a man wanna speak SpanishOh baby when you pass like thatYou make a woman go mad
