July 31Jul 31 Wow at Rein Me In breaking the record! Was hoping that would get there as I think that is more significant than Shakira making it who has already done extremely well for #2 spot! If there’s anyway Dai Dai could make it to #1 this week that would be ideal!Rein Me In to fall for a third week next week and go to ACR now please!

RMI is more of a One Dance than it is an Everything I Do... or an I Believe in terms of recognition and memorabilityIs 'I Believe' really that recognisable these days? (Not that it's any black mark against it if not, not a lot of songs from the 50s are still relevant - but I'd say even among Frankie Laine songs 'Rawhide' has stood the test of time better)
July 31Jul 31 Never thought I'd see the day Frankie Laine's record was broken! Actually, I have for some years now, I just thought 'Last Christmas' would be the one to break it instead. Just a shame it had to push past what would have been another notable #1 story in 'Dai Dai' to get there, but well done 'Rein Me In'!

(And then it had a million selling cover in the 90s by Robson and Jerome but we don't need to talk about that) Edited July 31Jul 31 by rio309
July 31Jul 31 You won, Sam. Enjoy the money, I hope it makes you happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Sam. You ruined my night completely so you could have the number one and I hope now you can spend it on lessons in grace and decorum. Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on. So Sam, take your money and get off my property.

July 31Jul 31 Disappointed for Shakira as others have said, just because I didn’t think we’d see her anywhere near the top again and I’d assume it’s chances are slim going forwards but as I said in the Friday Chart Predictions, as much as I find Rein Me In to be just fine as a song, it’s cool to see records broken and for British artists at that, rather than just Drake or something.I do think Rein Me In being #1 for such a long time has made me realise how much of a bubble of life I’m in though, more than ever. I genuinely don’t ever hear it in the wider world for it to be one of those unavoidable hits, but I guess I rarely ever go to straight pubs, I never listen to mainstream radio and my algorithm would never push Sam Fender on me. But I think that probably speaks to where music is currently and the fact there’s easy access to so much music out there rather than it not actually genuinely being a huge hit.
