well seeing as you’re about 10 points ahead of 11th, I think it’s fair to say it won’t kink

  • It's ludicrous in retrospect that none of Linger, Zombie or Dreams made the top 10. I'm not sure I can think of a stronger set of 3 singles for an act who only ever achieved top 20.

  • That was one of the last ones I gave an answer for... and the one that @awardinary made me think of after his BJSC post about a shanty!

  • A huge thank you to everyone who took part! ❤️ If I manage to get everything entered and double-checked tonight, I'm hoping to start revealing the results sometime tomorrow.

An artist whose UK chart appearances all trace back to a career beyond music.

Zendaya.png

Although Zendaya has released music as a solo artist, none of her solo releases have entered the main UK Singles Chart. Her UK chart appearances have instead come from songs connected to her acting career: Rewrite the Stars and The Greatest Show from The Greatest Showman, and Elliot’s Song from Euphoria.

Her highest-charting entry is Rewrite the Stars with Zac Efron, which peaked at #16 in the UK.

Zac Efron

This is a correct answer. His UK chart appearances all come from songs connected to his acting career, particularly films in which he appeared. So every one of his UK chart appearances can ultimately be traced back to a career beyond music.

Zig & Zag

I hadn’t considered this answer, but it fits the clue. Zig & Zag were primarily television characters rather than musicians, and their music career grew out of their popularity on television. They had two UK charting singles, 'Them Girls Them Girls' (#5) and 'Hands Up! Hands Up!' (#21), so their UK chart appearances can indeed be traced back to a career outside music. Another loophole successfully found.

Zayn Malik

His UK chart appearances come directly from his music career, first as a member of One Direction and later as a solo artist. His solo debut Pillowtalk, for example, reached #1 in the UK. Since his chart history doesn’t trace back to a career outside music, he doesn’t fit the clue.

So ....

that means we have two winners and two silver medallists!

Thank you so much to everyone who took part in the first quiz of this quiz season, and also the first one I’ve ever hosted! I hope I wasn’t too strict in the end and, most importantly, that you had fun. ❤️

If everything goes according to plan, @Mangø should be opening the next quiz on the UK Chart forum on Monday, so I hope to see you all there too!

I also hope I haven’t made any mistakes along the way. I’ve barely been at home at all this week and was constantly short on time, so I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked

Thanks again for playing ❤️

Oh nice, good start to the season! Thanks for running Nine, fantastic quiz to kick off and well done to Chris on a joint victory!

I think that works out as 2 winners and 2 third places!

Really pleased with my top 10 finish, made a few errors but did ok overall.

A brilliant quiz @nine¾ thank you so much for doing it. 🥰

Very happy to be a runner-up especially considering a couple of silly mistakes I made!

Congrats Chris and Rich on the joint victory *.*

Thank you Nine for hosting the quiz ❤️ chart trivia both past and present was right up my street and I admire how much work you put into it.

Haven't been checking the answers but this was a great quiz, really had me racking my brain, thanks nine! Well done to chris and gooddelta on winning, I'm glad to have come second.

Not @Spiceboy being a drama queen as usual!

Yeah two joint winners and two joint third places is how we'd usually score a leaderboard like this but I guess it's up to the discretion of @nine¾!

Happy to have found a successful loophole for Z and I guess I can't complain at a 6th place finish, especially considering I was only 4 points behind 1st!

Thanks @nine¾ this was a fun quiz to take part in, and it's always good to have an original idea for a quiz!

Ah, I wasn’t aware of that. I think it’s up to @PeteFromLeeds now to decide how to allocate the points, since they’re converted after each quiz and then added to the scores from the other quizzes.

The latter half of the alphabet was easier for me as I guess there's rarer alphabet letters so it's easier to narrow down, although I was certain with Y as I just couldn't think of any other song that fit but I see I was one of many that misread the question (I'd have likely never have thought of the real answer as I don't know enough about football to know that) x

Should've really got Wet Wet Wet, but I didn't actually know that was the reason they stopped manufacturing it, although I am very proud to get Supersonic, that was a chart hit on my birthday chart so I have that memorised somehow, proud to beat a few of the chart boffins there *.

Thank you for this quiz, nine, was very good fun and you certainly put a lot of effort into the working out!

I was kind of trying to cover different areas with the questions, so that, you know, someone might know a question about football, someone else might know one about a video game, a movie, and so on xD

Yes, I thought Wet Wet Wet announced the "deletion" of the single in an attempt to boost sales to keep it at #1 so it would break the record, rather than fall short of it. Nevertheless it was the most obvious answer to that question.

Not bad to finish right in the middle, at least I wasn't close enough to the top 10 that my two worst memory slips would have cost me a place there. Well done everyone up there, and congrats to joint winners Chris and Rich!

Thank you Nine for running this quiz and the lengths you went to present the results with detailed commentaries on each answer! It was a lot of fun to follow, and I'll try to get my head into the game a bit more if there's a sequel anytime!

Oop I did think of Zendaya actually but wasn't too sure so another left blank ultimately and yes fell for the trap with Y too :')

Thanks for hosting Nine!
