Posted March 11, 200817 yr How long will it last, it be really sad if some major stores like HMV stop selling singles and only available online, how will this affect the charts in the future Topic discussion in here, instead of the mid thread, otherwise the mid thread will get long winded.
March 11, 200817 yr Long winded? It's 9 pages already after a day. :P Anyway I doubt HMV will stop selling them for a little while yet. I'd just order offline if the shops stopped.
March 11, 200817 yr My local HMV still sells them but they dont have that many in stock - They do have two full rows of Leona though :o My local Woolworths only has a little cardboard box thing with singles 1-20 in place... I dont think they will last very long and to be honest i cant remember the last physical single i actually bought - It's really sad to see but it really is all about downloads nowadays.... :(
March 11, 200817 yr I think the really big stores like the one in London will keep on selling cd singles but the smaller ones are becoming less and less. Whats really wierd is that my local HMV is not selling cd singles anymore but are still selling the vinal singles!
March 11, 200817 yr My local HMV at Uni has stopped selling them so now I have to go by train to Birmingham just for a single nowadays <_< I don't understand why people don't buy them really! There's something so much more special about having the physical product and I'll never pay to download music unless it's a download only single. I'm suprised record companies haven't really pushed some kind of re-branding of them really, making them cheaper and adding more incentives etc.

March 11, 200817 yr there will have to be a better way of buying them online though, if my one and only experience is anything to go by... I ordered The Journey Continues from hmv.co.uk the day it was released and it never arrived despite supposedly having been sent. Even then, it took a week to be sent by them and then 2 weeks after that I had to ask for a refund. The only good thing was my refund was quick in coming through. It hardly inspires confidence in buying them online and I don't have a store anywhere near me that sells them in store... I'm still reluctant to buy downloads but they seem the most hassle free way of buying a "single".
March 11, 200817 yr My local HMV, Woolies and Zaavi all sell singles in limited stocks. I haven't bought one for ages (and I used to buy 3+ a week at one stage, even back in 2006) - but I think it will survive as a format for a bit longer as a niche market.
March 11, 200817 yr In Brighton, you are lucky if you can find a single in its second week of release...it seems that they only stock new singles in my HMV and Zavvi now...and perhaps the top 3 (I saw new releases plus Duffy, H 'Two O and Nickelback yesterday...not even Alphabeat, Westlife or Taio Cruz were still available)

It's because HMV.co.uk is now based in Jersey (hence the free delivery, somthing to do with tax free I think) it does take about a week for me for my oders to arrive! PS: The internet has made people so lazy! and destroyed many things!...quite scary to be honest!
March 11, 200817 yr How long will it last, it be really sad if some major stores like HMV stop selling singles and only available online, how will this affect the charts in the future Buying online is my only option. Thank God for hmv.co.uk
March 11, 200817 yr Woolworths are scrapping singles completely in a lot of their stores this month. Only the largest stores will keep the crappy blue stand. The smaller stores won't be selling them at all.
March 11, 200817 yr I still buy physical singles every now and again, i bought some last week from my local HMV in Birmingham. The big one in the pavillions still has plenty in stock (Top 40 & Back Catalogue), but the one in the bullring only has a small selection (Top 20). I think they will survive for a while longer yet.
March 12, 200817 yr When Asda stopped stocking singles it was like the 2nd to last nail in their coffin
March 12, 200817 yr I wish ASDA still sold singles... that means I only have to go down the road in stead of trailing down the town just for a single. -_-
March 12, 200817 yr There has certainly been a trend in the last few years towards a decline in selling the physical single. Major stores like Asda & Tesco no longer sell them. Also, I've noticed in my HMV there is a much smaller stock of only current CD singles available and very little in the way of backdated stock. I think the physical single will remain for a while yet for more popular artist releases but we will continue to see an expansion in digitial only releases.
March 12, 200817 yr When you look at it on the release scedule there are quite a few physical singles released each week, but WHERE can we buy them?????!!!! surely record companies should take action! I'm pretty sure my local HMV have replaced selling singles for Ipod rubbish! so where else can you by a CD single if HMV have stopped selling??!!
March 12, 200817 yr My local Woolworths stopped selling singles completely about a year ago  then about two months later the Music zone across the road shut  The nearest places now are HMV and Zavvi which are about 30 minutes away. Zavvi aren't to bad, but HMV seems to be regualary moving them around the store to more obscure positions - they don't even sell vinyls any more!! I think the main reason for people not buying them are the price. Students aren't going to shell out £3.99 for a 2 track single. I used to buy loads but i now only buy them for the artists i really like. Otherwise i just download them (which i hate doing because i'm literally paying for nothing!) or buy the albums.
