Noah Kahan's Stick Season looks likely to remain #1 for a second week, with potential new top 40 arrivals from Bring Me The Horizon with their latest track Kool-Aid and Liam Gallagher's team-up with John Squire on Just Another Rainbow. The Last Dinner Party could make a first chart appearance following their Sound of 2024 win, and there's new singles out from Goddard/Cat Burns, D-Block Europe, Green Day, Tiesto/Fast Boy and Lost Frequencies/Bastille

Shed Seven may be in contention for their first #1 album with A Matter of Time, while Busted expand their Greatest Hits 2.0 set with a live edition and new physical copies, plus Dublin band SPRINTS launch their debut LP Letter To Self

Breakdown of the week

- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.

- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.

- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm

- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.

- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.

- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)

- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).

- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.

- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.

Looking forward to seeing how the Busted release does - it’s been released on 4 vinyl, 3 cassettes and 2 CDs.
I guess Busted could squeak out a second week at #1 then since they probably won't even need 10k to do it.
Ariana just confirmed “yes, and?” For 12th Jan so looks like that’s our new #1 after Noah Kahan
So she replied yes, and??? , to a fan on Twitter askin if it's teue she's releasin, like she doesn't care!! ICONIC!! Yes I'm releasin a workdwide smash, what of it? I do it all the time!! :w00t:

Call me crazy but I don’t think she’s that popular anymore I don’t see her overtaking Noah unless it’s a really good song which is doubtful

Her last lead single was a six-week UK #1 single, her last piece of music that she was featured on sent the song into the top 3 and there has certainly been a lot of hype for this release. I would say she is easily still one of the most popular artists on the planet tbh.

It will be harder than normal to beat Noah tho. 'Positions'' first week streams on Spotify were under 1 million less than Noah's streams this week.

depends on the commercial appeal of the song of course but I think it's very likely Ariana will enter at #1

she's also #3 in the world for monthly Spotify listeners so objectively speaking she's still very much popular

Worth remembering just how omnipresent Ariana felt at the time positions came out. Since the release of no tears left to cry, she'd released albums in 2018, 2019 and 2020 (the first two about six months apart!) whilst also releasing non-album singles and collaborations. positions was undeniably big, but despite it spending six weeks at #1, it didn't feel quite as dominant as its chart run suggest. Its weekly sales at #1:

60,909

50,903

44,348

44,581

42,870

38,394

I think I'd expect a higher debut this time based on the fact Ariana's not released anything as a lead artist (and not even much as a feature) in almost 3 years. There's an appetite for new Ari music!

Of course, the quality of the song could totally derail its chances of being huge if it's not actually that strong :kink: but if she delivers, I think we're looking at a big debut.

isn't it with Max Martin? That would mean it's something commercial

Interestingly, Lil nas X is also releasing a new single on Jan 12 unless he's trolling

Call me crazy but I don’t think she’s that popular anymore I don’t see her overtaking Noah unless it’s a really good song which is doubtful

She may have been away for 3 years (which was very much needed as it felt like overkill by the last era), but I haven't seen anything to suggest that's true at all.

Ariana will be huge with her next, proper, single. The hype is insane.

Uh oh, a 3 year gap. Gaps that big destroyed the Spice Girls, solo Spice Girls, Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado, Cristina Aguilera, Cristina Milian, Ashanti, Robbie Williams, The Feeling, Jessica Simpson, Leanne Rimes, Rihanna...

Very few avoid the 3 year flop!!!

What a weird set of examples. The Feeling followed up their debut in less than 2 years and the slump happened then regardless of any further slumps.

There’s also artists like Pink, Adele, Lady Gaga and even Ed Sheeran that more than survived a 3 year plus gap.

I don't think Ariana is guaranteed to debut at #1. It's obviously possible though, but you can never be sure. I thought No Tears Left to Cry would be guaranteed and somehow it wasn't. And Focus under-performed despite being a great song as well.
