Posted June 23, 20205 yr For 'Ray of Light' Madonna gave us her most ambitious aesthetic era of videos to date. We had shape-shifting in the desert, high-speed cityscapes, the paparazzi, a game of chess and geishas. Which of the music videos released in this iconic era is your favourite? Feel free to also rank the music videos below: Frozen Ray of Light Drowned World/Substitute for Love The Power of Goodbye Nothing Really Matters Favourite 'Bedtime Stories' era music video Favourite 'Erotica' era music video Favourite 'Like A Prayer' era music video Favourite 'True Blue' era music video Favourite 'Like A Virgin' era music video Favourite 'Madonna' era music video
June 23, 20205 yr Author I agree this is an incredible era of music videos - possibly her best? I'm going to rewatch them all and rank but early shoutout for the criminally underrated 'Nothing Really Matters' video!
June 23, 20205 yr I think all of them are fantastic and very well styled to the accompanying singles... but it has to be Frozen, I remember being entranced when watching it.
June 23, 20205 yr Oh God, this is going to be so hard to rank! :drama: I think this has to be her best era of music videos too - as Dandy says, they all compliment the songs they accompany so well.
June 24, 20205 yr 1. Frozen 2. Ray of Light 3. The Power of Goodbye 4. Nothing Really Matters 5. Drowned World/Substitute for Love
June 29, 20205 yr Visually I’d say 1. Frozen 2. Nothing Really Matters 3. The Power Of Goodbye 4. The Power Of Goodbye 5. Ray of Light But these videos are all so strong. It’s my favourite era by Madonna for music videos actually they’re all incredible. Frozen has also had most inspiration too. Rihanna’s, Sledgehammer and Christina’s Fighter to name a few are very much inspired by the Frozen video.
June 29, 20205 yr It has to be Frozen, truly mesmerizing. It was the first Madonna video I ever saw (just like it was the first Madonna song I ever heard) when I was seven years old and I was completely obsessed. So many memories of watching it being on the telly all the time as well. I also loved The Power Of Goodbye video as well. This dark, moody vibe suited her so well.
June 29, 20205 yr I've not voted yet but 'Ray of Light' is probably my favourite. Still struggling to order! :drama:
June 29, 20205 yr Author 1. Frozen 2. Nothing Really Matters 3. The Power Of Goodbye 4. The Power Of Goodbye 5. Ray of Light So good it has to be included twice? :kink:
June 29, 20205 yr Author OK so I have voted for Frozen! I wanted to throw a curveball and throw Nothing Really Matters a vote, but it was just very narrowly beaten. Frozen Nothing Really Matters The Power of Goodbye Ray of Light Drowned World / Substitute for Love It has to be Frozen, truly mesmerizing. This is also true for me and one of the reasons it narrowly beat Nothing Really Matters!
June 30, 20205 yr They're all fantastic! It's easy to forget just how good the videos were. 'Frozen' is obviously iconic but I do think in hindsight 'Nothing Really Matters' is the better video, although I imagine most of us have incredible feelings of nostalgia towards the former. Nothing Really Matters Frozen Ray of Light Power of Goodbye The Power of GoodbyeDrowned World / Substitute for Love
July 24, 20205 yr All five videos are brilliant in their own way so I've ordered in terms of what I return to most: 1) Ray of Light 2) Nothing Really Matters 3) Frozen 4) Drowned World 5) The Power of Goodbye Oh wow I wasn't expecting such a landslide for 'Frozen'! :o A worthy winner of course - mesmerising is definitely the word! Especially when paired with the song, it makes it all the more chilling and mystical. 'Ray of Light' has to be my favourite though. I think it might be my earliest memory of Madonna, particularly the club scene towards the end, so I've always thought fondly of the video. The fast-forward view of life compliments the frenzied, ecstatic energy of the song perfectly so that visual always plays in my mind when I listen.
July 24, 20205 yr Author In a round where all videos are incredible, 'Frozen' in front with such a huge lead shows just how loved it is! Deserved too of course.
July 12, 20232 yr Absolutely 'Frozen' for me. Outstanding song but the video is just as iconic
July 12, 20232 yr Only The Power of Goodbye is OK. Ray of Light and Nothing Really Matters are the good contenders for her worst video ever.
