Actually, no. The chart will officially be dated 2nd January 2010, so Joe would be the first Number One of the 2010s. The Guinness Hit Singles book always lists the Christmas chart as the last chart of the year. :)

(For example, Iron Maiden's Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter is the first Number One of 1991, despite being announced at the top in December 1990; Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls is the first Number One of 1999, despite being announced at the the top in December 1998 etc...)

Music Week list this week's chart as week 51. Therefore, Sunday's chart has to be week 52.

I prefer Music Week's method as I've already stated...

So, in my eyes, Joe is the last #1 of the noughties, and the first (new) #1 of the teenies (or w/e the next decade will be called) will be either Wiley, or if eh doesn't make it, Iyaz/Sidney Samson.

The way I see it Joe will be the first #1 of 2010 with the week ending 2 Jan 2010, Chef had the same week ending 2 Jan but in 1999, and that was the first #1 of 1999 as listed on

everyhit, OCC and http://www.onlineweb.com/theones/

It means all the sales belong to 2009 but becomes the first #1 of the year - 2010. You wait until OCC and others update their database for the new year, it will be planted for 2010, because of the stupid week ending, if it was week beginning 27 Dec, than Joe will be the last single of 2009. That should make more sense.

I think MW have cocked up somewhere down the line which is nothing unusual, I do wonder if they missed Week 53 along the line from a previous year.

Yes I know it sounds weird, but there is a slight quirk with all the week ending $h!t.

Happy buble still number 1 and cheryl climbing and take that still doing great business in the album chart woohoo!
this week end thing is simple really - it is whatever is no1 on the date - so Rage in xmas no1 because on xmas day it will still be no1 (fri) due to sales from last week, then joe will be no1 from sunday 27th - to sunday 3rd jan - due to sales from this week. therefore the first no1 of 2010 is joe because he was no1 on 1st jan 2010!!

Yes, but he's also #1 on 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st December (and indeed 2nd January as well). Do they not count?

(I agree with the Xmas #1 thing, though I think that is a bit different)

The thing is OCC always go by the week ending date in this case its the 2nd Jan, so Joe is technically the first #1 of 2010. If OCC adopted the week beginning instead of the week ending $h!t, he would be the last act of the decade. But those 5 days sales belong to 2009.

Its all a bit of mess in my honest humble opinion. OCC need to drop the week ending.

I still cannot understand how "Ego" is only #29 when it was between #17-#14 all day in iTunes yesterday...

maybe itunes isn't as dominant as it used to be. I havn't downloaded off there since i discovered a wonderful cheaper site called amazon!

The Sun's article on Cheryl was amusing. It described the potential position of #7 or #8 as "Absolutely tanking, struggle, terrible result, big disappointment!". Just shows as soon as something isn't a huge #1, the press like to write an article that brings her down.

I bet they'd probably have written the same article even if they had known the true position of #4.

I thought it was a great article. :naughty:

so do sales from next week up to nyeve count for 2009s ytd and those after for 2010 or do all next weeks sales count for 2010?

Joe is gonna get the #1!!! So happy!!! :D

And I hope Cheryl charts at #4 :)

Ego is higher in Amazon, it's at #6.

and is there any info on how close GaGa is to RATM? thanks. :)

As much as I don't like Cheryl, that article in 'The Sun' was completely abysmal.

That guy Gordon Smart is a complete and utter imbecile and I will never know how he got that job. He is clearly on X Factors pay roll due to the fact that he appeared on the show and does not stop creaming over Joe in his column.

Also every single day without fail he gets his facts wrong. Today for example talking about the Jonas brothers marriage and he can't even get the right brother.

Also does he realise that no one who reads his column gives a crap about JLS and their daily ventures out on the town.

Bring back Victoria Newton anyday.

Ego is higher in Amazon, it's at #6.

ego is only 29p on amazon  its 99p on itunes. i know where i am buying it!

Sales from this week (Sunday 20th December up to and including Saturday 26th December) count towards 2009 End of Year chart. It will be the last week to do so. Although this week's chart is revealed on Sunday 27th December '09, its week-ending date is Saturday 2nd January '10.

Sales from next week, Sunday 27th December to Saturday 2nd January, contribute to the first chart of 2010 on Sunday 3rd January, week-ending Saturday 9th January.

Ugh this week ending stuff has a lot to answer for - it's only because its been published in this fashion since the 1960s. It's all very contradictory, but you have to use your own judgement whether you regard Joe McElderry at #1 on Sunday as the last one of 2009 or the first one of 2010. Personally for me he is the last one of 2009, because this week counts to 2009 sales through and through.

Well nothing has been updated for today on MW, same goes for the News stuff, it looks like there won't be any updates, if you want to keep abreast of things of how the chart is shaping up, just keep an eye on the iTunes thread. You never know Lady GaGa might surprise everyone in the end by returning back at #1.

And be aware of any bogus material, some people do have a lot of free time on their hands during the holiday period.

In the meantime have a Merry Christmas and be aware of the pinned thread regarding chart news over the festive period, any updates I will let you all know.

Merry Christmas to you too Mikey ^_^
