I remember people saying RATM would "save chart music", "best song in the chart in years" (that one was ridiculous, it wasn't even the best in the top 10 that week). :lol: I think people thought if the kids heard the song, there was NO way they could possibly go back to listening to Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Eminem, etc.

 

But look, they're still in the chart. And RATM are nowhere.

RATM have been selling out massive shows and festivals, and have multiple top 20 hits from the last 20 years, them being number 1 last year didnt get them anywhere, because they had already got somewhere. RATM are a massive massive band.

And why is christmas number so important to all these bands. Its just 1 week within a full year

Since the 60s it has been viewed as the big prize in the chart year (not sure why it started, as I wasn't around then!). This is why it is so important to the general consciousness of the public as i it the one time in the year when the general public have an interest in the charts. until last year, the X Factor had removed all of the debate about who would be xmas #1 and this was/is such a huge shame.

The only one song that I like in the top 3 is Surfin' Bird. ^_^

But we had the BATTLE for christmas #1, that's why it was such an institution. No one is saying the christmas #1 was always brilliant but now its really bad almost every year now and no one bothers competing because people eat from the giant spoon coming through the TV!

bit of a silly way to view things really, if you really enjoy a song then you should give credit to the songwriter for they are who brought you the enjoyment of the song. I think it would be stupid to be so selfish to just ignore the people who bring us what we enjoy.

 

Im not saying that they shouldnt get credit. Of course they should. But I dont care if its some credible song writing or some pop act. If I enjoy the song then thats the most important thing.

I agree with Dannyboy. I think he's saying that if he likes a song, he'll like it, no matter who wrote. He's not saying that he doesn't want to give credit to who wrote it, or that if it's a song he really likes, he won't research who wrote it.
