February 18, 201115 yr Wonder how long SLY can stay at the top for - it should have this week in the bag... hopefully its round for the long hall - when radio/ video play kicks in It won't stay top long - too many album sales already, and the Brits boost can't last forever...
February 18, 201115 yr It won't stay top long - too many album sales already, and the Brits boost can't last forever... There are still millions of people who haven't heard this song yet and it's just a matter of getting it out there - it causes an instant reaction. But it would have to be the live version as that wouldn't really be affected by how many albums she's sold. When you've heard the studio version the live version is almost a different song. I've downloaded the live version even though I have the album.
February 18, 201115 yr It won't stay top long - too many album sales already, and the Brits boost can't last forever... you could be right, although, i would like to defy expectations (like its doing now) Edited February 18, 201115 yr by soundseekerz
February 18, 201115 yr 1 and 4 in the single chart for Adele and 1 and 5 in the albums chart... month ago when I said that she will be the biggest this year, people here make joke of me. LOL. The QUEEN!
February 18, 201115 yr Looks like SLY has the #1 in the bag. Not necessarily one of the best *songs* to get to #1 for ages, not that at all, but probably one of the best #1s in ages. It's reassuring to know songs like SLY can still get to #1.
February 18, 201115 yr Someone Like You is a good song, but I'd say it's only the best #1 since last month.
February 18, 201115 yr Sorry to keep asking, but what number is Avril? It's starting to rise on iTunes, so hopefully it will either stick at the same position as last week or move slightly up.

February 18, 201115 yr Adele set for Brits chart double Friday February 18, 2011 Source: MW By Ben Cardew Adele could be on her way to a Brits-inspired chart double this Sunday with Someone Like You, the song she performed on the night, currently neck and neck with Lady GaGa’s Born This Way for the number one slot. On the albums chart, Adele looks certain to top the rundown for a fourth straight week with 21. It has already sold more than 100,000 copies this week, taking it past the half a million mark in the UK. Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Lady Gaga (65,413 - 1042 ahead of PT/ 200 copies ahead of Adele) 2 Adele [sLY] (65,200) Albums 1 Adele (100k) I would actually love to see Adele get to no. 1 this Sunday with 'Someone Like You'. Her Brits performance was simply stunning and really sold the song to me. As a result, I bought '21' last night and it's a brilliant album (kudos to Dandy and GD for the recommendation :D ). So I can say I've contributed to the 100k album sales so far this week. 'SLY' is just such a beautiful track and would be a no. 1 single on musical merit alone. ^_^
February 18, 201115 yr Hopefully PJ Harvey can stay top 10 now - Cee-Lo and Arcade Fire could pass her but that should be it? Re: Gaga; her first full week of sales are comparable to Katy Perry's and Rihanna's last lead singles. In terms of UK chart history Gaga is more successful than KP and I'd say similarly successful to Rihanna. Gaga is in the papers/magazines every week - but then again so is Rihanna and KP: they're easily the three biggest female pop stars in the UK at the moment. So, I don't know if BTW can be considered a flop at all. Then again, I'd have thought she'd easily sell 150k - Bruno Mars only had three big songs to his name (JTWYA, NLY and Billionaire) and Grenade did nearly 150k - with Gaga's 18 months of massive popularity and the expectation because it's her, I would have expected that much. Her album will drop 200k first week though. Despite her massive singles success perhaps she will be a long-term albums act, like Madonna.
February 18, 201115 yr Grenade had been receiving airplay for months before release. No one had heard BTW until 2 hours before its release. The same argument applies to California Gurls and Only Girl (In The World).
February 18, 201115 yr I'm not a big fan of adele, I wouldn't say i dislike any of her songs but I wouldn't say they are amazing imo, however someone like you does get to no.1, I would be happy because out of all her singles, it is her best song and deserves the highest chart peak
February 18, 201115 yr Her album will drop 200k first week though. Despite her massive singles success perhaps she will be a long-term albums act, like Madonna. The thing with Madonna is that she used the best tracks on each album as singles to continue selling her albums. Also the continuous reinventing herself, style and image as well as successfully moving with the times and making music of its time. Whether Lady GaGa can follow in the footsteps of Madonna is left to be seen. 'Born This Way' is not a disastrous choice of lead single - it is a decent enough pop song. The signs are that the second album won't be as bad as most "difficult second albums" tend to be.
February 18, 201115 yr I bought '21' last night and it's a brilliant album (kudos to Dandy and GD for the recommendation :D ). You're welcome. It always amazes me how Gooddelta and I recommending an album (as we did on Tuesday) often results in 300% sales increases for the artist concerned.
February 18, 201115 yr Grenade had been receiving airplay for months before release. No one had heard BTW until 2 hours before its release. The same argument applies to California Gurls and Only Girl (In The World). Yes, that's true. I suppose what the argument really is, then, is 'is Gaga the biggest popstar in Britain/the world'. If she was the biggest popstar, should she have done it without lots of airplay (and bear in mind she has had a week's worth by now, yet her sales have tailed off), from hype/fanbase alone. I'm not looking for a Gaga argument btw - I was just surprised she didn't sell 150k. Personally I'm not bothered. I imagine she'll still sell 600-700k of BTW, minimum.
February 18, 201115 yr You're welcome. It always amazes me how Gooddelta and I recommending an album (as we did on Tuesday) often results in 300% sales increases for the artist concerned. Because it's happened so many times before!
February 18, 201115 yr I'm not sure I buy this argument about sales being more important than chart position, either. It's not as if GaGa is desperate for the wonga and, looking back, it always looks better to say 'number 1 single' than 'number 3 single (but it got really good sales, honest)' lol. When you get to GaGa's standing, I reckon chart position over sales every time.
February 18, 201115 yr  Because it's happened so many times before! I seem to recall us also being solely responsible for getting With Every Heartbeat to #1 back in 2007.
