February 18, 201115 yr i'm sure adele is close to #1 now i really think she'll do it. it'd be such a good shock #1. gaga can have it when the video comes out. and nice to see rihanna back to #2 in the albums! the brits really helped her (not that she wasn't doing well anyway) looking forward to seeing the final sales this week
February 18, 201115 yr People remember that Bad Romance debuted at number 13, right? And that it took weeks and weeks for airplay and the video to shift it to number one? IMO it all depends on whether the general music buying public have been exposed to BTW enough for them to like it. If the (web based etc) hype its had already hasn't been enough real life exposure i agree with your point however you will know if it doesn't connect to the public to anywhere near the degree of previous a Gaga smashes, if it gets full 'conventional' exposure (significant amount of one or more: radio, vid ,other promo -performances interviews in media /performances on TV etc) and it STILL BOMBs down the chart regardless as if all that promotion hadn't happened ie like with Britney's (relative catastrophic (worldwide) flop) HIAM - EVEN the new Avril L. trk has infinitely more stability WW despite not reaching the initial couple days high download peaks of HIAM - notably so far Gaga is having much more stability WW with first week download peaks of BTW than HIAM did - but what else would you expect when you RAPE your fan base senseless of cash + dignity (even if they are too blind to see it for themselves)by doing a phoned in performance with all the spirit + animation of a zombie on a full scale premium priced WW Tour?
February 18, 201115 yr Has it been confirmed that the live Brit performances actually count to the chart because surely Take That - Kidz would be much higher than it is and Tinie Tempah's We Bring the Stars Out would have made an appearance. I think Adele will easily be number 1 if they are combined.
February 18, 201115 yr Adele still at 3 :( I guess she had a fair way to close the gap. I can see Jessie J getting a 3rd week - hope i'm wrong No, Adele is #2. ^_^
February 18, 201115 yr Author Did you do that on purpose? Yes... :D to get everyone going  Had to build the suspense up :D
February 18, 201115 yr If Gaga is only 1,042 copies ahead of Adele, then surely that means Adele has it this week? looks like this could be another case of The Saturdays vs Flo Rida we saw last August :o
February 18, 201115 yr Author Its a shame Saturday mids do not exist, this could have been a very interesting week to have them, just have to wait and see tonight, what Dave Taylor's chart comes up with, its the closest thing we are going to get. Sunday's chart is going to be very interesting, and please do not post any spoilers come Sunday, some of us like the suspense of this weeks chart. edits... oooh.... I nearly forgot Radiohead's album is available to download this weekend, I don't think the album will chart inside the top 5.
February 18, 201115 yr according to digitalspy.co.ukLady GaGa's still on top, but apparently she's now fewer than 200 copies ahead of Adele's 'Someone Like You'. and according to twitter OfficialCharts: The margin between #1, #2 & #3 this week is incredibly close. Less than 1% as it stands today. so, I guess BTW is 200 ahead of SLY and 1042 ahead of PT... Edited February 18, 201115 yr by iTSAN
February 18, 201115 yr I think adele will 100% be number 1 sunday now if she's that close to over taken gaga Edited February 18, 201115 yr by Brooke_x
February 18, 201115 yr Author irishguy28 has posted at ukmix that Lady Gaga had sold 126,861 copies from last Friday to last night which means she has sold 65,413 this week. comment made by Robbie on haven
February 18, 201115 yr I forgot about Bruno only this year! [/facepalm] But still, GaGa sold 61k last week and had sold another 57k on yesterday's midweeks. Add Thursday sales and up to 14:00 today and you're probably looking at 130,000 sales. For a song to sell that on name alone, no matter who, that's phenomenal. I don't see anyone else that would do that. Exactly, as with your previous (+ Mr.Blobs related)posts, plenty of illustration/proof that Gaga is still the phenomenon she was REGARDLESS of chart position which after all has a lot to do with luck not just the songs appeal (classic eg. Westlife would never have ANYWHERE NEAR so many #1s if they didn't insidiously manipulate events to increase their luck so MUCH) - no typical "difficult"/mass popularity slide 2nd/3rd album for her i think. In fact i'd say her fan base has increased in size since the (Fame)monster period/Bad Romance - none of her previous mega smashes debuted at the top with such big number 100K+ for the week did they - they all climbed from the previous week? - naturally the longer she keeps having initial huge success the more people will become more interested/invest more of their time in her/become ardent fans. A chart run of 6-8-18-26 in its four weeks so far and would've been in danger of dropping out of the top 40 this week, but the video has now been released and assuming it goes to TV straight away I'd be very surprised if it wasn't at the very least challenging for the top 10 again next week I thought Youtube/Web in general was the important promo for pop videos now - it gets greater audience compared to the sum of the minor digital channels that show vids(for the Uk at least)does it not? Would you have i expected it to have ANY effect whatsoever in the UK so far - since it has had none ? Well for the record i would be SHOCKED if it returned + stabilised HIAM to the top 10 - at least 20 places with ALL the WEB/CLIPS HYPE ie promo + RADIO AIRPLAY its had already! http://209.85.12.227/430/177/emo/ehuh.gif EVEN after the effect of the Brit awards tracks on the top 40, HIAM has continued to CONSISTENTLY slip down in the MIDWEEKS! Also importantly the vid reaction is decidely MIXED EVEN from fans themselves - her old dancer working on this vid, Brian Friedman(sp), was hyping Britney to be back to her pre -chronic mental ilnness/medicated('In the Zone/GH') self when in facts it was TOTAL DECEIT she is just as lifeless as ever(obviously not a surprise with my knowledge) - a lot of stans can't even delude themselves anymore such was the expectation + won't support the "OLD Elvis" Brit, add to the fact shes obviously isn't going to do any other promo (despite previous inferences) given this is claimed to be merely a contractual last album before she retires means even some of the most dumbest of Britards are realising she is a completely diffrent person + star to the one they originaly supported + dumping her :o.
February 18, 201115 yr Author Loving how Adele is having success with her second album, shame about Duffy though with Endlessly, it certainly disappeared with a whimper.
February 18, 201115 yr Wow the top 3 is so close! Adele will definitely be number 1! Less than 1.5k separating number 3 from number 1! Just hope that GaGa will climb to number 2!
February 18, 201115 yr FROM MUSIC WEEK Adele set for Brits chart double Friday February 18, 2011 By Ben Cardew Adele could be on her way to a Brits-inspired chart double this Sunday with Someone Like You, the song she performed on the night, currently neck and neck with Lady GaGa’s Born This Way for the number one slot. This year’s event saw all of the Brits live performances – except for Rihanna’s medley – made available for sale via iTunes immediately after the event finished. Adele’s Someone Like You has been by far the biggest beneficiary, with the live version of the song making number one on the iTunes UK chart within 24 hours of her performance. It is still at number one on iTunes, with the original version of the song at four. On the OCC chart, both versions count towards one chart placing and the strong sales of the live performance have helped Someone Like You to climb the sales flashes, putting it just over 100 sales behind the early pace setter, Lady GaGa’s Born This Way. Last week’s number one, Jessie J’s Price Tag, is also selling very well and could still pip both to the top of the charts this Sunday. On the albums chart, Adele looks certain to top the rundown for a fourth straight week with 21. It has already sold more than 100,000 copies this week, taking it past the half a million mark in the UK. Edited February 18, 201115 yr by The Bomb!

Rihanna's performance is not the only one unavailable on iTunes. Arcade Fire's performance is also not available :(

Britney has had 6 very succesful studio albums and at least 25 major worldwide hits and 100 million records sold, so to count her off as over is really subjective. I think that Britney is indeed the new Madonna and she has proven that over the last 12 years claiming hit song after hit song after hit album. Gaga is only at her 7th worldwide hit, so it's too early to tell if she can steal the crown from Britney . From my point of view, 'Born this way', will kill her career since it has been more than overhyped hence the chart performance, yet it didn't live up to the expectations since Gaga earlier announced it as 'The greatest song of all time' which is very far from the truth. 'Born this way' is a cheap MASH-up of 'Waterfalls' and Madonna's Express Yourself over a Mylene Farmer melody, and it sounds like a Girls Aloud B-Side from their 'What will the Neighbours say' era, and if it was released by Dannii Minogue or Geri Haliwell wouldn't have reached number 378234 in the charts. Wait and see till Britney releases her new album, then judge her!!! Edited February 18, 201115 yr by Big Mistake
