OK, looks like Adele's got this sewn up - I'm surprised, but pleased!

LMAO, people here really overreact to everything. Just like last Sunday, everyone was predicting Lady GaGa would sell about 200K this week even though it was always going to start trailing off once the initial burst of sales had come and gone, now, people are saying it's failing just because it's not meeting stupidly high expectations that were never realistic anyway.

Personally, I still think it'll get atleast a week at #1 at some stage once the video comes out, although I don't think it's going to sell hugely (tbh, I think it was only ever meant to be a taster single, with the killer song to come next).

Yeah, people on here can be so dramatic too. Like I hate it when someone's like "This song is doing so well with no promo", when I've been hearing it on the radio for a month. Or when people act shocked, time and time again, when a song not playlisted by Radio 1 goes top 10, even though all the commercial radio stations play it non-stop. Dancing on My Own by Robyn, On a Mission by Gabriella Cilmi, The Way Love Goes by Lemar, Impossible by Shontelle. I could go on. It's just completely and utterly stupid, when I'm hearing those songs on the radio every half an hour, then I come on here and everyone is like "I'm so shocked this is going top 10!!!"

Anyway, rant over.

Sales > positions. It's sold way more than 100k in the space of a week, that is hardly performing poorly. Some people need to gain some perspective here...

Plus the video is still to come.

'Dancing On My Own' did have radio 1 playlisting and I always expected that to go top 10. These songs can only really be classed as minor hits anyway, they all scraped the top 10 and fell like rocks. It goes to show that they need a more solid foundation to stabilise them...

Adele set for Brits chart double

Friday February 18, 2011

By Ben Cardew

Adele could be on her way to a Brits-inspired chart double this Sunday with Someone Like You, the song she performed on the night, currently neck and neck with Lady GaGa’s Born This Way for the number one slot.

This year’s event saw all of the Brits live performances – except for Rihanna’s medley – made available for sale via iTunes immediately after the event finished.

Adele’s Someone Like You has been by far the biggest beneficiary, with the live version of the song making number one on the iTunes UK chart within 24 hours of her performance. It is still at number one on iTunes, with the original version of the song at four.

On the OCC chart, both versions count towards one chart placing and the strong sales of the live performance have helped Someone Like You to climb the sales flashes, putting it just over 100 sales behind the early pace setter, Lady GaGa’s Born This Way.

Last week’s number one, Jessie J’s Price Tag, is also selling very well and could still pip both to the top of the charts this Sunday.

On the albums chart, Adele looks certain to top the rundown for a fourth straight week with 21. It has already sold more than 100,000 copies this week, taking it past the half a million mark in the UK.

Oh she's so close to lady gaga i think adele will 100% be #1 on sunday both album and singles :)

though im not a fan of BTW, on a typical week (even w/ releasing it Fri.) she would have had #1 in the BAG. What happened with Adelle was a very rare circumstance- yet I strongly believed it happened for a reason. BTW simply really really does not deserve #1. I understand people try to justify it any way they want but #1 is still a VERY big achievement- regardless of what factors are involved -wrong or right. By the looks of it, BTW will prob. not even end up at #2 lol.

I really wish rubbish Syco would learn from Adeles success this is how you handle and plan a sophomore album campaign.I cannot see Britney going back Top 10 the video is just good but she seems really flat and her dancing is still not as sharp as it used to be.I imagine Alexis will go Top 10 next week although her material is rather weak.

So Adele is number 1 on singles and album!!! The best song in the past 2 years on number 1 with no promotion and only 1 performing... just a MASTERPIECE.

3 performances, hence its 3 weeks in the top 40.

But yeah, it's done SO well!! :o

Actually Lady Gaga is looking at 80k plus for a #3 position, its hardly flopping, members are just forgetting its bad timing of the BRITs, on a normal week she could have got a #1 on sales of 80k so its not the end of the world, the top 2 are looking to just crash under 90-100k at close of sales. Sales for the top 3 are looking pretty impressive.

I think the fact that "HIAM" survived two weeks in the top 10 WITHOUT any promo. Not even one interview shows Britney's star power, could you imagine if she'd actually performed it?

This differs from Gaga whose been hyping "Born This Way" since the release of "Alejandro", heck! Even my mother knew about the song's impending release + Gaga is the most in artist right now.

Britney's video has just dropped, and I've already noticed a 2 place climb on iTunes :). I think it'll climb to the top 15 again.

There is a huge difference between knowing that GaGa has a new single soon and to know exactly when it's out! The most amount of people who knew the release of BTW were fans! Still, you could say itunes send email to all the people who had bought GaGa's songs! Believe me, people outside Buzzjack aren't so obsessed with music, to know exactly when something is out!

YES! Knew she could do it! The version at no.4 is also very close to passing Gaga's version at number 3 on itunes! Chart double and looks likely she will do 100k with SYL!!!

:( Oh Well... Hopefully GaGa will get to #1 the week of the Video release...

I really do love 'Someone Like You' though.

Wonder how long SLY can stay at the top for - it should have this week in the bag... hopefully its round for the long hall - when radio/ video play kicks in

If the live version gets any kind of airplay it could be another Love Is all Around Me (chart success wise, it's a far better song)....I believe they deleted that single after 15 weeks at the top to give other artists a chance!

+1 SLY is so amazing, deserves to stay at #1 for a few weeks, hopefully stays there for a while.

The studio version is getting radio play - i've heard it twice today - so hopefully will pick up.

She needs to get a video going for it through :D

She should just use the BRITs performance as the video tbh. Then she can focus on Set Fire to the Rain (which is already top 100 on iTunes, and is also getting airplay), and then release another one of her songs as a single.

Radio will play Someone Like You loads anyway. Radio stations aren't just limited to playing singles...
