Apparently its the best opening ratings for X Factor ever.

The best was last years it was 11+ average.

I'm alone in TeamGaryBarlow then? I agree with everything he has said. All these novelty acts are just taking the place of decent talents.

I know its 'good tv' to have freakshows go through but this is a competition afterall, these novelty acts would be better off on Britains Got Talent IMO.

He speaks sense, yes. But does he have to be so flipping boring speaking it? :drama:

Janet is great - sounds a lot like Diana Vickers. Her cover of When We Collide is amazing too

AMAZING! :o

Oh, what's this? I tell you all that Tulisa won't be a disaster as everyone insisted when she was announced and that half of you will be converted to her just an episode in? And I somehow turn out to be RIGHT? Well, whoever saw that one coming?
PREACH! (I was with you :drink:)

EDIT: Bootcamp song spoilers:

On the first day, they had the choice of:

Price Tag (Jessie J)

Forget You (Cee-Lo)

You Got The Love (Candi Staton/Florence & The Machine)

Firework (Katy Perry)

Born This Way (Lady Gaga)

Break Even (The Script)

What a cliched song list!

And on the second day, after the usual cull:

Grenade

Rolling in the Deep

One

Cry Me Out

Edge of Glory

Angel

Better

Cannonball

Dynamite

Feelin Good

Kiss From A Rose

Nobody Knows

Skinny Love

Unfaithful

When Love Takes Over

I wouldn't surprised if The Edge Of Glory was this year's MYFML, obviously on a smaller scale. Also, would that be Better by BOYZONE :/

I really, REALLY want Janet to sing

'Cannonball'

or

****'One'****

as opposed to

'Skinny Love'

but it's DEFINITELY going to be the latter, isn't it? I'd love to hear her do

'Price Tag'

or

'Breakeven'

for the first day though

It wouldn't surprise me to see 'Skinny Love' be this year's MYFML, Birdy's version was big but not quite the top five hit and huge seller that it could have been. I'll bet my worldly goods on Janet singing it at some point and sending it back to at least the top 40...

I agree. :manson: I really hope not though. Also

'Rolling In the Deep'

is going to be year end number 2 if that song is chosen by anyone good :puke:

All in all though. This year is the best start we've had in YEARS  But I do wish they'd get rid of the live audience and let it be between just the judges and contestants!

AMAZING! :o

OK I was slightly exaggerating there :P But she's got a good voice and could go far on the show :o

Fantastic first show. Janet was incredible even though I heard lots of Ellie in there but that Irish break or whatever and her expressions were brilliant. I also liked the guy from Brighton and yeah I'm 50/50 with that girl who did EOG too. She has a strong voice but I hate people who think they are fantastic already. It's quite a put off IMO. That girl group was great and the girl from Essex was too but that other woman .... OH MY DAYS they are milking her as the Jedward/Wagner of this series aren't they :(

That guy at the end was VILE too.

Kelly is by miles the best judge. I didn't how the new judges would go down but they seem really good except Gary. What a bore.

I think Jonjo was agreeing with you

What a predictable song list :(

I can definitely see

Skinny Love

being this year's MYFML, maybe not to quite the same scale but

Janet

will obviously sing it at least twice, given she's basically

Birdy

mark 2 - I do love the song though so I shan't complain!

I'd LOVE

Rolling In The Deep

to get a nice boost  One of my fave songs this year! But the list on the whole is

very predictable

, I'd have like some less known and less cliche songs, like maybe On My Own by Yasmin or something.

ZZZZ. Buzzjack loving Janet SHOCKER. She's the token SHY ONE for this year then. Incredibly Vickers-esque and this is not a good thing.

Very impressed with the judges though. Tulisa was the big shock for me. She's quite eloquent and seems to talk a lot of sense. Definitely not the new Cherly thank God. Kelly was totally excitable which was endearing to watch. Gary is hilarious in his super deadpan delivery of anything ("No."). Louis is... Louis. 'You remind me of a young Kian Egan!'

Surprisingly I enjoyed the new series far more than I was expecting. Having watched the action live at auditions I was suspecting a terrible showing. Thank goodness for editing I suppose.

Tulisia Is my new favourite judge. I loved watching her live and she lives up to expectations, maybe excelling them on times. I really hope viewers take a shine to her.

Still missing Cheryl though. She would have accompanied Tulisia, Gary and Louis perfectly.

Don't be so deluded. The show is approximately a GAZILLION times better without her.

Tulisa and Kelly together are a GOD SEND. Kelly is sublime, completely brilliant. She had me cracking up on numerous occasions and her line 'I freaking LOVE the UK' reminded me so much of my Southern friend. I was worried about Tulisa because ScumDubz are vile but she was a freakin amazing judge.

The only way this panel could be perfect is if Louis was to cunt off.

Completely agree, absolutely love Kelly such a great judge, so much energy & charisma, and also brings a lot of experience, talent, humour and ofcourse she's beautiful too. Perfect choice really for a judge on a show like X Factor.

I agree with you guys really, some good song choices but very predictable list for bootcamp.

Not a bad opening show. There were no hugely obvious potential winners in amidst that lot (unless Goldie Hawn pulls off a shocker), but let's face it the first show was never going to be about the contestants.

JUDGE JUDGEMENT

Tulisa was OK. She wasn't exactly the QoL that Tirren, Champion of the Underclass, was ready to herald her before the series had even begun. She's a bit TOO hard-faced I think to truly inherit Cherly's Queen of Hearts role, but on the flip side going from the first show I'd say she's more knowledgable and far less likely to fall back into the "OMG YOU'RE SO CUTE" cliches.

Gary Barlow seemed to have the hardest time of it. I wouldn't say the issue was so much that he was humourless (he managed a fair few witty one liners did ole Gaz), but that he really didn't look like he wanted to be there. There was a distinct air of "I HAVE AN IMPORTANT CONCERT TO GET TO, WHY ARE YOU HERE?", and he didn't have even the low patience levels of Simon Cowell with the loons.

Louis Walsh was predictably much less of a comedy buffoon. Without Cowell to bounce off and try to "rival", there was less squawking and point-scoring, and he might actually start taking the thing seriously for the first time in a while.

Dame Kelly Rowland was the star turn I thought though. I did worry initially that she'd be the Dannii of the panel; seen as the cold fish and very much the "fourth" judge in the panel. I'm not so sure that will happen now. I think she came across the best out of all of them. She seemed to manage the perfect balance of being warm, friendly and flirty, whilst also providing actual useful technical criticism. HURRAH

I've only watched a few auditions on Youtube and I am kinda tempted to download the whole show.

Tulisa looks great so far from what I've seen, she reminds me of young chavy Cheryl, I love that  Kelly is quite funny with her constant god thanking american behaviour. Louis is Louis, still useless but "funny". Gary is the big disappointement yet, he looks like he watched Simon on repeat to learn the job, and now he's only able to copy him but fails to impress.

Contestant wise, I haven't seen anything really good so far, but I haven't watched them all. The "Your song" girl sounded nice and loveable but the vocal abilities were missing. The guy with the tatooed bum was awful. George was scary but funny to watch. The Asian girl was a joke, you gotta love her. And that's it.

I think your assessment sums Gary Barlow's participation up perfectly.

I genuinely thought he was a woman before he said his name :(
