The reason I liked The Time (and the reason so many other people liked it) so much was probably because of the producers. I mean, DJ Ammo, will.i.am and deadmau5. They're all extremely talented, especially based on some of their other work. So I think when they produce a song together, it was always going to be a hit really.

Whip My Hair, on the other hand, ironically sounded more like Turn My Swag On than Swagger Jagger. It's a good song. I remember a party I went to last year, and they played Whip My Hair, and everybody went crazy for 4 minutes. Probably the highlight of the whole thing tbh. They loved it.

I love Whip My Hair, The Time and Swagger Jagger. Yes, I'm in the minority I know!

Me too!

But alot of the British public must like them too, for them to get to #1 or #2 :P

 True I suppose, the haters can 'kill theirselves' to quote HRH Queen Nicki Minaj of amazing quotes as they can't really do anything to stop those songs doing well at all.

I adore '4th of July' by Kelis which is produced by DJ Ammo and I like deadmau5 a lot but 'The Time' was just nonsense plus it stole practically all its interesting parts, basically the whole meldoy, from 'I've Had the Time of My Life' and didn't show any respect to the original.

I cannot believe that utter tripe is no1 single, she is abysmal in every sense...I just hope she drops quickly and her follow up flops.

#7 for 'Super Bass'!? :w00t:

Also really, really pleased for Cher (obviously) and Christina Perri

The melody wasn't "stolen". They bought it! Credited it, and everything. They even named the title after the original song, and kept the original lyrics! If you're stealing a melody from someone, you generally want to erase all other clues linking the song to the original.

Part of The Time probably was stolen, but it wasn't the chorus. An instrument used in the verses was apparently invented by deadmau5, and he used it in his remix of You and I by Medina, but DJ Ammo, who produced most of the beat in the verses, didn't ask for permission to use it.

I also noticed that the instrumental of the final chorus of The Time sounds a lot like the beat to Can't Get You Out of My Head by Kylie Minogue.

But I agree with you, although I do love the song, I don't think it was the best work of any of them tbh.

Take That were #22 in the first set of midweeks last week aswell and lcimbed through the week and stayed top 20 on the offical chart, i think they will manage top 20 again come sunday.
Oh good luck to her. There've been worse number ones lately (Willow Smith - I'm looking at you).

When I listen to Swagger Jagger though - I just cannot get this out of my head:

Kath

Very similar indeed. Trust Ms Lloyd to sample that from a comedy legend. Shame on her.

Thanks.

Hopefully top 20 this sunday.

Well to be fair - Williams did do his 'Cordwangler' ditty to the tune of My Darling Clementine. To all intents and purposes it is regarded as a children's folk song (although I must admit - I find the original lyrics rather dark for children!)

I should actually thank Cher Lloyd - thanks to Swagger Jagger - I've been enjoying quite a bit of Kenneth Williams on youtube today!

I've just read - Swagger Jagger is on US iTunes now (I'm usually way behind everyone else so you all probably know anyway!)

Wow you really paid attention to the song! I just hated it because I just can't understand why anyone makes basically a cover of a song but makes it just slightly different to disguise it like "hey this is not a cover, this is our own track and very innovative".

Update in :o No changes at the top, no Hurts either :snif: Will be up soon.

How can you say they are extremely talented if they copied and sampled a Dirty Dancing tune... I wouldn't call a talent.

Well, I grew up in the 1980s & 1990s where music seemed to be original, fresh & inspiring...

Bad taste! Blee

Glad that Nicole seems to be staying in the top 40 this week. I absolutely love 'Right There'.

Katy top 10 in album chart! :o I'm sure she hasn't been in the top 10 for ages!

In the Sun today it says that Cher has a 12K lead over JLS.

He said "especially based on their other work" though

And you can't really say someone has a bad taste just because he's younger and thus knows the noughties better than the 80s?
