I thoguht this would've got higher based on the fact that Ed wasn't well-known when The A Team came out but it debuted at #3, whilst he's really famous now (and I think the song is much better, although I know not everybody agrees). He's frontloaded though, as expected. Unlike The A Team, people won't randomly be discovering him over the next few months.

It isn't bad, no, but after how long The A Team stuck around with a #3 peak the follow-up not going top 2 isn't great either. And it's falling pretty quickly on iTunes. :(

I have a feeling though that it'll climb up again a bit when some songs wear off. And besides, I prefer the A Team so I'm glad it have outpeaked that :P

Hopefully he'll release Hush Little Baby next to reverse this terminal decline!

That's probably the best song to release in terms of quality and most is likely to do well. I think I prefer Traktor and Unorthodox to it though.

This song is too 'crowded' - it could be better witthout so much 'plumage'.

I know what you mean. To me it just seems really try-hard. Like he wants to be Example.

I prefer The A Team as well but they're both among the best songs of the year for me.

Why is everyone saying a #4 debut for Ed Sheeran's new one is a failure? People are reacting as if it's at #24! (Whether it's sliding on iTunes or not, two Top 5 singles for someone who came out of the blue is bloody good!)

No Reggie it's not "Only Olly Murs", it's Rizzle Kicks as well!
lol at that Meat Loaf song. ;)

2nd no.2 for Maroon 5 then :cheer: Not sure but would it only be Christina's 2nd too?

LOL at Reggie-is Olly 3 or 4?

Well, it's come to this. My second favourite song of the year up against my second least favourite song of the year (good symmetry there). Hopefully the UK public has made the right decision here but I have a bad feeling Maroon 5 are #1...

OMG ED SHEERAN AND THEN OLLY MURS!!! THIS IS MY DAY!! If only lady gaga - you and i was at number 2 [a girl can dream!!] I would have passed out by now!!

Apologies once again for my looning.

The follow up was never going to be as huge as A-Team. I still think top 5 is a great position for any single.

In a way, yes. The beat is good but he's added way too many beats over the primary and it just takes away from the melodic line.

Sometimes less is more.

I think Example has it, it will be close, but Maroon 5 didn't overtake until Friday which is a bit too late

It's surely got to be Maroon 5 at #2 and Example at #1?

I'm fairly sure it'll be Example.

Incidentally what do you find worse than Maroon 5? I hadn't noticed....... :P

Considering the song was written and first released in 2008, a good year before the whole UK rap scene blew up commercially (and hence the Cilmi namecheck - nice that he left that in there!), I'm inclined to disagree!

Who's saying it is a failure? Some here are saying it's a slightly disappointing entry position, but nothing quite as dramatic as a failure
