It's a thing called 'relativity'. You expect a song with a higher peak to have greater longevity.

Yeah! Could be good! :D I'm not surprised they'er collabing though, since they did a performance together of Fireworks a while ago (which was originally Drake & Alicia Keys), and it was very well-received.

Well, again that is down to expectations - I think she would have been derided if she had peaked at 35 even if it sold 50k and stayed in the top 40 for 10 weeks.

 

Down On Me only spent like 5 weeks in the top 40 I think, and it's sold over 150,000!! It's probably spent like 9 months in the top 200! :lol: But that's my point really. Sales are what count, so I don't know why two songs can sell the same, but one classed a failure, one a success.

 

People base success off their expectations, but they shouldn't. Like if Adele's next album sells a million, people will probably say it's a failure, because they're expecting her to sell more, but it's not a failure at all! Same with a song selling 200,000.

You're confusing 'failure' with 'failure for a #1'. Expectations of sales are far higher for a #1 than a #35. Therefore a #1 selling 150k is much less impressive than a #35 selling 150k. Is this that hard to get round your head?

Well, the VMAs did have an effect, since one of Beyonce's album tracks, Love On Top, will probably enter the top 100 this week thanks to the VMAs.
