I think Glee's version of it charted in December. I might be wrong though, but I remember discussing about whether it's a 2010 or 2011 song (someone was saying it's a 2010 song because it was released in 2010, and someone else was saying it's a 2011 song because that's the year it was popular).

And Journey's version would not have been as popular without Glee Cast's version (whether it was released in November 2009 or February 2010 ), and vice versa. They were very lucky to "happen" at the same time like that.

True. But also Rihanna's fanbase is nowhere near as big as Lady Gaga's, so she wouldn't have such insanely high first-week sales.

Someone worked out roughly what BTW's sales in its first 7 days were, but I can't remember now.

It definitely entered in January. And I think your debate was between 2010 and 2009 (not 2011 :P)

Delilah up to #16 now - hopefully a Top 10 hit next week.

I'm really surprised at how well it's doing, it's not exactly the most commercial song ever! (Glad though)

Cant believe Lighters is now #10, didnt think it'd ever go top 10 :o

Pleased though!

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Although if it entered in January, I'm confused as to why we were having that discussion though. Maybe I was thinking of a different song.

Good that Lighters is now top 10! :o Hopefully it shoots up now.

TBF though had 'Born This Way' been released on the Sunday or Monday it would have slaughtered the chart competition at that time and gone to number 1. I want to say with what would have been the highest first week sales so far this year, but I'm not sure how much it did exactly.

It was something like 165k, insanely high. Shame it was released on the day it was, really.

The song was already popular before Glee came into the picture.

Joe performing that song on X Factor made that song already popular given how it charted in the Top 20 from #62 in 1982. Then, given that Joe performed it again with the highest final, it is no surprised it jumped to Top 10.

The song was already popular even before Glee came into the picture in January (January 11, 2010 is the exact air date of the 1st episode), but by that time, Journey was already in the Top 10 because of Joe performing it.

Ohh... you got it already.

e4 actually showed the first episode in Mid-December, as a teaser, and released Don't Stop Believing on it's own (as apposed to all tracks from the show), and it peaked at 75; see:

Ahhhh! Thanks. That makes sense!

It's quite obvious both versions helped each other's popularity out. It only increased the hype around the song at the time that Glee Cast happened to just have covered it. All I remember from back then was everybody debating which version was the best (most people believed Glee Cast "murdered" the song, as you'd expect ).

Glee update:

43. You can't stop the beat

59. It's Not Unusual

79. We got the beat

90. Ding dong the witch is dead

94. Anything goes/anything you can do

10. Bad Meets Evil - Lighters

11. Damien Rice - Cannonball (Watch This Free fall)

15. The Saturdays - All Fired Up :(

The World's Greatest was used heavily on US xFactor.

An R Kelly song would obviously not be heavily used on UK X Factor now, would it.

I imagine this could be one of the highest viewing-figures ITV2 has ever got! :o I think the viewers will decrease over the coming weeks though.

You and I up to #33. I think this could still have a few more weeks until it peaks (I did not intend for this to rhyme ).

'The World's Greatest' is an incredible song. I really, really love it and am surprised it's not been covered as the winner's single before!

I see the crediting of 'Collide' has been changed to 'Leona Lewis / Avicii'. Odd.

Glee will definitely not get any top 40 hits from episode 1 then :D I do hope they keep this up for the whole series

Bingo Players just outside the top 40, I wonder if they could get top 40 next week (a la Hello)?
