December 12, 201213 yr It's funny how people here portray James as 'the right winner' or 'the best winner' etc based on sales this week. Most of winning singles sell bucketloads anyway. It was the same when Matt Cardle won. Everybody loved him. Yet his first 'proper' single didn't live up to people's expectations. As for James - we will have to wait and see...
December 12, 201213 yr Seems that this is again a case of OCC reporting any single copy sold on a daily basis :P
December 12, 201213 yr I think that's a wildly optimist assessment of how many CD singles it'll sell. IMO 50-75k will be more like it - people just aren't looking for CDS's any more. True to say- remembering Leona's 1st week she was around 50% physical was she not? (2006). Even later Alexandra had huge physicals thanks to Woolworths selling it at like 25p as they were closing (2008). I can't really remember for later years probably as they were less impressive or not quoted. However, the charity tag, and moreover the stocking filler effect is likely to result in more physicals than you'd ever normally get now (or the "here take this now and shut up til Xmas" placating effect possibly! ) Add to that the wide availability and just how busy these places are this time of year I think 6 figures is possible, although we still have 2 full weeks to Xmas would these be all in week 1 with that in mind? Anyone remember the physical split for other winners?
December 12, 201213 yr Author So 68k yesterday then. 68k for Tues, I reckon sales for today will pass triple figures, physicals have kicked in, I say double that for Weds 130k Should give a rough total 255k + 130k = 385k :o well that's my guess, will he pass 600k+ by the end of the week. The Justice Collective will have to shed loads next week to top it.
December 12, 201213 yr Next weeks race could be epic if the Justice Collective live up to expectations. The top 2 could both do 250-300k each!!
December 12, 201213 yr Author Midweek Charts: X Factor's Arthur races past Little Mix Source: MW by Paul Willams X Factor 2012 winner James Arthur has taken little more than two days to beat the entire first-week sales of 2011 champs Little Mix's debut single. Impossible, which was released by Syco immediately after Arthur was crowned the winner last Sunday night, had sold 254,713 copies by the end of business on Tuesday, according to the Official Charts Company. That compares to Little Mix's winner's single Cannonball shifting 210,129 copies across its entire first week. Arthur now has in its sights other first-week tallies by previous X Factor winners, the record having been set in 2005 by Shayne Ward's That's My Goal, which sold 742,000 copies week one. Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah opened with 576,000, Leona Lewis's A Moment Like This with 571,000 and Joe McElderry's The Climb with 451,000. Impossible has also comprehensively achieved the highest first-week sales of a single this year, easily beaten the previous peak of 141,410 set by the Interscope/Polydor track Payphone by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa in June. Shontelle's original version of Impossible returns at 16 in the midweeks. More than 200,000 sales behind in second place at this stage of the week is Interscope/Polydor's Scream & Shout by will.i.am featuring Britney Spears, while Atlantic's Bruno Mars drops 2-3 with Locked Out Of Heaven. However, Mars is heading for a second UK No 1 album with Unorthodox Jukebox on course to debut at the top on Sunday. There are just a few hundred sales separating the three albums immediately below it at this stage, led by Reprise/Warner Bros's Christmas by Michael Buble holding at 2, Virgin's Emeli Sande climbing 7-3 with Our Version Of Events with sales up 98% following her appearance on The X Factor finale and Olly Murs' Epic-issued Right Place Right Time dropping 1-4. Clown, the track Sande performed, is new at 24 on the singles midweeks. Also on The X Factor over the weekend, Rihanna sees sales of her Def Jam/Mercury set Unapologetic rise 42% and climb 6-5 as a result, while the same programme helps to lift sales of One Direction's second Syco album Take Me Home by 5%, although it drops 3-6 in the midweeks. An ITV1 special leads to sales of Rod Stewart's Verve set Merry Christmas, Baby increasing by 31% but with a 4-7 Sales Flashes fall, while a 31% sales rise for Sony's Neil Diamond set The Very Best Of is accompanied by a 5-8 chart decline and Island act Robbie Williams loses a place to 9 with Take The Crown, despite sales increasing by 10%. Meanwhile, RCA's Pink is back in the Top 10 at this stage of the week with The Truth About Love up 11-10. Reprise/Warner Bros act Green Day are set to score their third hit album this year with Tre new at 14 in the midweeks, while an X Factor performance for Kelly Clarkson has sent her RCA release Greatest Hits - Chapter One back among the Top 20 positions. It is up 27-19 on the midweeks with a 71% sales rise. Having climbed to No 1 on the singles chart last Sunday, Parlophone's Gabrielle Aplin is now down to 4 in the midweeks with The Power Of Love, while Olly Murs' Epic single Troublemaker featuring Flo Rida drops 3-5 and Rihanna's Def Jam/Mercury-issued Diamonds falls 5-6. It is joined in the Top 10 positions by another Unapologetic track, Stay featuring Mikky Ekko, which is new at 8. Stay was performed on The X Factor last Sunday as was One Direction's Kiss You, which climbs 43-10 as a result to sit directly below their fellow Syco single Little Things, which drops 6-9. Besides James Arthur and the two offerings from One Direction, there is a fourth Syco track in the Top 10 singles midweeks with Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande's Beneath Your Beautiful dropping 4-7. Outside the 10, the Universal Republic/Polydor-issued Remember Me by Daley featuring Jessie J is new at 19. December 12, 201213 yr Gregs in somewhere stan and the show just started with Little Mix - must be no chart show today!!
December 12, 201213 yr I thought James would have done more than 68k yesterday since his lead on iTunes is still as strong as ever. (68k is of course still extremely strong, I'm not suggesting otherwise :P) Gregs in somewhere stan and the show just started with Little Mix - must be no chart show today!! 'Somewhere stan' better known as Afghanistan of course. Edited December 12, 201213 yr by Michael Bubré
December 12, 201213 yr Hi guys, do you know there is no chart update on Radio 1 today ? Because eulogising the armed forces is considered to be more important.
December 12, 201213 yr The Pogues getting a play on Radio 1 now anyway :P They're down to #21, climbing again on iTunes so they should hopefully still stay top 20 but they're definitely looking like falling a bit this week. At least they have a 2012 top 15 peak already anyway (and they might still beat that next week as Christmas gets closer). Still ahead of Mariah, although only by one place. Wizzard, Slade, Band Aid all still top 40 at #32, #39 and #40 respectively but Wham! have dropped out. A pleasing result if it can stay like that although I hope Slade and Band Aid at least can reclimb a couple.

I know dont know why i said that just dont know why they are forcing the British armed forces in people face this week. Although for people out there at xmas it is a nice thing for them! December 12, 201213 yr Author Well the official top 10, looks like the iTunes top 10, with a few artists need a minor re-adjusting, Diamonds is at #6, Labrinth #7, One Direction [LT] #9
December 12, 201213 yr Good to see Will.I.Am and Britney at #2. Hopefully they can hold on until Sunday.
December 12, 201213 yr Little disappointed Kylie is only 25. I was hoping top 20 after her X Factor performance
December 12, 201213 yr Was actually semi-expecting Bruno to be #2 today but #1 with a 22k lead so he should quite easily hold on. (On an only slightly related note, never knew 'Locked Out Of Heaven' was co-produced by Mark Ronson :o) Olly down to #4, sales are going to need to be majorly up if he's going to match his first two albums' feats of 4 weeks over 100k. Emeli back in the top 3 :drama: :drama: :drama: Calvin's album could have pretty good overall sales, he's holding up far better than I expected in the Christmas market! December 12, 201213 yr Fantastic to see James Arthur selling so well - and holding the title for "Fastest ever selling winner's single" is something to be extremely proud of. Have to admit, it's the first winner's single I've ever bought - pre-ordered the CD single; mainly because it'd be quite nice to get a copy of his 'Sexy and I Know It' cover. With rumours that he's already in contact with Ed Sheeran and Labrinth, I think Syco are really going to do a move right with James. They're surely aware that his success is 'making things his own', and while an album of covers is out of the question; I still reckon they'll give him decent control over the records he's creating. With Labrinth on board anyway, they're bound to be crackers. On a separate note, "Stay" at #9 is fantastic news. Hopefully a future number-one/long-running top 10 hit. Standout track on an already incredible album in my opinion, contrary to some mixed reviews I've seen on the forum.
December 12, 201213 yr 22K isnt a massive leadfor Bruno then, he should be no1 but if Buble sees a sales increase he should do 100k this week and Bruno will be on around say 125k!
