October 6, 201311 yr OLLY MURS    Anyway, I think Gary was spot on with the choices of the groups! As for the girls, I think Melanie should've gone through instead of Abi but I was happy with the other two! :)
October 6, 201311 yr Abi is dreadful. The new Janet Devlin. At least we'll all have a hate figure. The girls are always the strongest each year, but it takes something special to connect with the public. Just think the girls are too saturated throughout the show this year. Unlucky that Melanie didn't get through, but if she gets a wildcard then it will probably work in her benefit just because of public outrage, and the more exposure she will have gained. See Christoph.
October 6, 201311 yr Missed the show as I was at work and can't be bothered to watch the episode but caught up by reading the comments in this thread. Completely predictable line-up apart from maybe the lack of Melanie (although she's a bit hard to connect with personally, she has the voice for sure but she's so plain otherwise). Yay for Abi, I'm a big fan of hers, siding with Robot and Dandy* there! Tamera is incredible too so brilliant to see her through. I clearly need to catch up with the Miss Dynamix performance if they performed Pure Shores! :o
October 6, 201311 yr looking at who's gone through I don't think I'm going to be watching. only really care about abi and hannah, as well as shelley for her personality, the rest range from alright to ugh. melanie should have gone through over tamera, god she must feel awful after the amount of times she tried and it sounded like she could have had a chance this time. :( I also really want to know what enticed louis to put that kid who looks like sideshow bob through over paul. October 6, 201311 yr Ugh, Abi. What an awful choice, Nicole! :( Melanie & Relley were both better than her. As for Gary - well, the girl group seem like they have potential! I haven't warmed to either of those boy bands though.
October 7, 201311 yr I think people forget the SCIZM between Buzzjack and the Great British public. I see Sam or Nicholas winning tbh...
October 7, 201311 yr I think people forget the SCIZM between Buzzjack and the Great British public. I see Sam or Nicholas winning tbh... I tend to use my sister as the BAROMETER for such things (she's been on the $$$ the last 4 times apart from Little Mix but that's because she hates all girls with personality on shows like these) and she is VERY MUCH on board with a Nicholas win.
October 7, 201311 yr Author I can see Nicholas doing an Eoghan Quigg on us, except he'll probably not flop as much - although he shouldn't be allowed a career after this. Fully expecting Hannah to be the next Alexandra Burke and win the whole thing (as shit as that would be).
October 7, 201311 yr My Favourite's are Tamera , Hannah, Rough Copy and Miss Dynamix I hope one these four win :)
October 7, 201311 yr The boys are always dull and boring imo. But I think the right three were chosen (out of the choices)! Thank GOD Giles got nowhere near in the end! The chubbier version of Shane from Westlife, was great vocally, but no charisma, personality or anything. Forgettable. The other dude was just TOO angry :\ far too over emotive! Luke Friend is just so boring and unoriginal. Nicholas is literally James Arthur and Jahmene rolled into one, he's surely the early favourite? Sam C, looks like a popstar, but his voice is so uninteresting. Nothing in there that makes him stand out. The overs. The sooner they get this category over with, the better tbh. Sam B & Shelley really shouldn't have got in over both Zoe and Andrea! I think had the top 3 been Andrea, Lorna & Zoe, Sharon would have been in with a genuine chance of winning/at least an interesting group that had no karaoke or "cruise ship" entertainers. Sharon fluffed it up royally on this one. Lorna is young enough to make it successfully and I can see her being marketable. The groups are a bit... hmm... every group that got through seemed rather arrogant and unlikeable. In particular Rough Copy who were definitely not as good as they (or Gary for that matter) like to think they are. Miss Dynamix have a lot of potential there! I think I'm backing them to do the best of the groups tbh. Rough Copy will be eliminated in the next 3 weeks, Kingsland Road will be next and out by week 6 with Miss Dynamix (if they live up to their potential, obviously) in with a shot at winning. I can't even remember the other groups bar Xyra, who I would have put through over Rough Copy. The girls was definitely the toughest category. But saying that, I only loved Tamera, who got through. Hannah is definitely great, but I believe we've seen everything she has to offer already and likewise with Abi (although she's more irritating) and the market she's obviously aiming for is tough already! I would have put through both Relley and Melanie over those two, personally, but I can see why the other two were chosen. Jade was as crap as ever, so I'm pleased she didn't make it. Overall, there's a couple of potentials this year! Everyone else just borders "average/seen it all before" or just too arrogant and egotistical. Tamera is by far my favourite though with Miss Dynamix far ahead of everyone else but a fair distance behind Tamera.
October 7, 201311 yr IMO all the judges have got 2 good acts and one bad. My bad acts: GIRLS: Melanie or Relly should have gone though instead of Hannah - her voice sounds like a frog and makes me cringe BOYS: Giles should have gone though instead of Luke - he just can't sing OVERS: Zoe should have gone though instead of (shouting) Shelly GROUPS: Brick City should have gone though instead of (talentless) Rough Copy Edited October 7, 201311 yr by euro music
October 7, 201311 yr Author I'd say Gary's the only one that got his choices right, TBH. Rough Copy aren't exactly my favourites, but they're better than the other three in terms of originality. Sharon should have put Zoe through instead of Shelley, Louis should have put Giles through instead of the godawful Nicholas and Nicole made a royal cock of herself by putting Abi through instead of either Melanie/Jade.
October 8, 201311 yr The only reason Sam Callahan went through is due to his looks. His voice is very average and nothing special and there were certainly better singers in his category and looking back his previous auditions weren't great neither.

October 8, 201311 yr The thing is though, it's The X Factor, not The Voice. Yes you do have to have a good singing voice and that's why Sam Bailey is there for example but Sam is more of The X Factor. He doesn't have a terribly good voice, but neither does any of 1D and they're doing just fine. It might supposedly be a 'singing competition' but there's simply a lot more to it. He can sing well enough.

October 8, 201311 yr Exactly, it's about finding a POPSTAR not the next great singing talent. If the 2 go hand in hand (Leona, Alexandra and a handful of others from the show) then yeah, brilliant but so often they don't. Look at Olly, 1D, JLS et al, all decent singers but they've lasted so long/done so well based on more than that. They have personalities/looks/the whole package. It's the whole reason why Melanie would have failed miserably had she gone through, she's got a cracking voice but you could lose her in an empty field she's so non-descript.
October 8, 201311 yr Author There are plenty of contestants in the show's history who have gotten through just on a novelty basis and have never done anything after the show, or at least anything interesting. But then there are also those who have gotten through and succeeded from both this and Britain's Got Talent based on their voice and not their looks. I wouldn't really say that to have 'The X Factor' you must be a good singer and have good looks, you need to have the charisma, energy, presence/awareness (on top of a good voice). Anybody getting by on good looks is just a bonus, but it does feel like in recent years acts have been getting through based more-so on their image than their actual vocal ability because they give the judges mental orgasms. Obviously Sam C has a decent enough voice, but his looks really do surpass his vocal ability. It's probably not the only reason he got through; he's already had a single and it's very good - he just needs a bit more work and then he will have the full package because of course he does have great presence and he's very charismatic. It's very... strange... of people to say things along the lines of "If you have a good voice and that alone, go to The Voice". Obviously image helps a great deal but I doubt a large quantity of single/album buyers will be that bothered about what somebody with a fantastic voice and who will be amazing on a live tour will look like. It certainly wouldn't put me off buying somebody's music.
October 8, 201311 yr I didn't say that people with only a good voice should go on The Voice at all... I meant that in that show The Voice is ALL that matters, and people act like that about X-Factor too - when it's not the case at all. It's simply not about just having a voice, hence the name... Like John said, Olly Murs is hardly Freddie Mercury or Prince vocally, but he is incredibly charismatic, likeable and attractive. Coupled with great material, he has been very successful, same with 1D really. ANd looks don't even really come into it either. It does help, but it's just the whole aura that really embodies The X Factor that matters to me. Alexandra wasn't ugly, but she's not Beyonce or anything yet still had 'it'.
