December 1, 201312 yr Avicii don't get the credit he deserves for getting country music onto the Radio 1 playlist through the back door. The lead singer on this track is 46, yet Robbie Williams is too old for them... It isn't country music, it's dance music with some country influences. I don't think R1 would have touched it if it was credited to the singer and lacked the dance breakdowns (even if the singer wasn't a total unknown). obligatory gwon lorde

Jade Thirlwall (who had auditioned for two previous series) and Perrie Edwards (both from South Shields), Jesy Nelson (from Romford, East London), and Leigh-Anne Pinnock (from High Wycombe) had all originally auditioned as solo artists, but like fellow acts Nu Vibe and the Risk, were put together as a group at the boot-camp stages. After impressing Jessie J and mentor N-Dubz's Tulisa Contostavlos at Judges' House, they made it to the live finals, where their engaging personalities, girl-next-door image, and contemporary song choices saw them outgrow their initial underdog status. Originally known as Rhythmix, the girls were forced to change their moniker in week four after it was revealed that there was already a Brighton-based children's charity of the same name. But following stellar performances of En Vogue's "Don't Let Go," Katy Perry's "E.T.," and Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music," they beat the Conway Sisters and Hope's previous record to become the first girl band in the show's history to make it past week seven. After contributing to the high-profile M&S TV ad campaign and the finalists' charity cover version of Rose Royce's "Wishing on a Star," they eventually went on to triumph over Marcus Collins in the final. Their debut single, a rendition of Damien Rice's 2003 hit "Cannonball," went on to top the charts but scored the lowest first-week sales by an X Factor winner since Steve Brookstein's "Against All Odds" in 2004, and was later beaten to the coveted Christmas number one spot by the Military Wives Choir. Their debut album, DNA, featuring the singles "Cannonball," "Wings," and the title track, was released in late 2012. - iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): 2011 01 Cannonball -NAS- 2012 01 Wings -1- 2012 03 DNA -2- 2013 12 Change Your Life -3- 2013 16 How Ya Doin? December 1, 201312 yr Move  such a MASSIVE grower, was so underwhelmed at first but I'm loving this more and more with each listen.
December 1, 201312 yr Forget Move, I can't wait for Little Me to be released! :w00t: Something very Destiny's Child about it!
December 1, 201312 yr Best 2 songs in the top 40 (by far) back to back! 'Move' is now possibly challenging 'Dear Darlin'' as my favourite X Factor related song ever
December 1, 201312 yr Still loving 'Move.' I hope it continues to hold on and have a lengthy chart run a la 'Wings'. Both it and 'Little Me' in the charts would be amazing.
December 1, 201312 yr Move  such a MASSIVE grower, was so underwhelmed at first but I'm loving this more and more with each listen. I agree, 'Move' is definitely a grower! :cheer:
December 1, 201312 yr Hi all, just got back in. Listened to most of the Top 40 in the car, but of course was unable to contribute. Sorry for the absence of a "Random Retro", will try harder next week!
December 1, 201312 yr 11 (from 16) Lady GaGa Feat. R Kelly - Do What U Want [D] http://a4.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Features6/v4/53/11/a7/5311a70c-9c54-c6ad-65c5-3025642ab713/dj.vkaduqzh.170x170-75.jpg Chart Run: *9-16-11 [3 wks] *Chart ineligible for 3 weeks before allowed to chart Release date: 21-10-2013 Format: download only single Label: Interscope Records Sales: 40k+ Video here (Live on SNL): A4123vzCDS4 Biography Glamorously gaudy, a self-made post-modern diva stitched together from elements of Madonna, David Bowie, and Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga was the first true millennial superstar. Mastering the constant connection of the internet era, Gaga generated countless mini sensations through her style, her videos, and her music, cultivating a devoted audience she dubbed "Little Monsters." But it wasn't just a cult that turned her 2008 manifesto The Fame into a self-fulfilling prophecy: Gaga crossed over into the mainstream, ushering out one pop epoch and kick-starting a new one, quickly making such turn-of-the-century stars as Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears seem old-fashioned, quite a trick for any artist to pull off, but especially impressive for an artist who specialized in repurposing the past — particularly the '80s — for present use, creating sustainable pop for a digital world. Perhaps unsurprisingly given her flair for grand gestures, Lady Gaga has deep roots in drama. Born Stefani Germanotta on March 28, 1986, the future Gaga played piano as a child and pursued musical theatre in high school, regularly auditioning for New York-based television shows, notably landing a background role for a 2001 episode of The Sopranos. At the age of 17 she enrolled at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in their Collaborative Arts Project 21. As she studied, she continued to eke her way into show biz, winding up with an appearance on MTV's short-lived post-Punk'd reality show Boiling Points in 2005. Not long afterward, she left school so she could concentrate on her music, fronting a band called SGBand, which released two EPs prior to splitting. Germanotta then teamed with producer Rob Fusari, a collaboration that produced not only her stage name Lady Gaga, but recordings that led to her signing with Def Jam in the fall of 2006. Her association with Def Jam was short-lived: the label dropped her early in 2007. Gaga rebounded by working with performance artist Lady Starlight, the two developing the Lady Gaga & the Starlight Revue, a tongue-in-cheek neo-burlesque act that gained positive press and proved to be her last stop before signing with Interscope later in 2007. While at Interscope she created a bond with Akon, who convinced Interscope head Jimmy Iovine to have her co-sign with his Kon Live imprint, and then Gaga began working with producer/songwriter RedOne, a union that led to the songs that would bring her fame: "Just Dance," "LoveGame," and "Poker Face." These songs formed the foundation of The Fame, the debut album that appeared in August 2008. Initially, Lady Gaga had greater success in Europe, thanks in large part to the "Just Dance" single, which earned club play in the U.S. and chart placement in other territories. Gaga's march toward the top of the American chart was slow but "Just Dance" reached the peak position in January 2009, followed swiftly by "Poker Face," the single that firmly pushed her into the mainstream, its popularity growing so large it often functioned as a punch line on TV in addition to winning a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. "LoveGame" and "Paparazzi" also appeared as singles before Gaga released The Fame Monster in time for the holiday season of 2009. The mini-LP, available separately and as a package with The Fame, contained the single "Bad Romance" whose popularity soon rivaled "Poker Face" and helped kickstart a stellar year for Gaga in 2010. That year, the hit singles "Bad Romance," "Alejandro," and the Beyoncé duet "Telephone," along with the successful Monster Ball Tour, put Lady Gaga front and center with the public as she worked on her sophomore album, announcing the May release of Born This Way on New Year's Day 2011. The steady march to its summer unveiling was preceded by the release of three singles —"Born This Way," "Judas," and "The Edge of Glory"— all leading up to the highly anticipated Born This Way. Arriving to mixed reviews, the album was a hit but didn't quite live up to its high expectations, yet it produced more genuine hits with "Marry the Night." A full remix of the album, naturally called Born This Way: The Remix, appeared at the end of the year, as did a holiday television special called A Very Gaga Thanksgiving and an accompanying EP, A Very Gaga Holiday. - iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): Lady GaGa 2009 01 Just Dance (Lady GaGa Feat. December 1, 201312 yr Aw how annoying that this is just outside top 10! Hopefully can somehow climb back in next week! :P
December 1, 201312 yr Hopefully this will be back in the top 10 next week :cheer: Can see it outselling Applause in the long run, would be WELL on its way if the "ineligible" sales were counted... :(
December 1, 201312 yr That'd be inconsistent with their previous rules though. Even though it wasn't intentional, they were still treated as instant grats and therefore are eligible to chart when the album is out. Sure, they shouldn't have been this high, but they need to be consistent with what they've said before I think. I suppose you have a point but these 2 songs were clearly not meant to be instant grats so it's quite frustrating that 'being consistent' results in such a clearly twisted chart outcome as this. (The OCC are being inconsistent on the instant grats thing by including Sunday sales for Gaga/1D tracks while only counting from Tuesday onwards for Eminem as well but that's a slightly different matter). ~ > #11 [ from #16] > LADY GAGA feat.
