December 3, 201312 yr Well, she released Forgive Me in 2008 (I think?), and that under-performed (although it did well), so she went back to ballads.
December 3, 201312 yr It's a Christmas album from Leona Lewis, did people actually expect it to be big? It has had no hype, Leona hasn't really had a fanbase since around 2009. It is doing exactly as expected, 15k first week isn't bad and it should stay stable if not start doing better with promo and getting nearer Christmas.
December 3, 201312 yr I predicted years ago that Leona would regret so badly neglecting her home fanbase. More telling will be the sales of her next studio album. Surely they won't make the mistake of waiting to launch it off the back of the next X factor.
December 3, 201312 yr I'm not surprised Leona isn't doing fantastic but she is still doing better than I expected. I still think this will be her last album with SYCO but that might be a good thing!

Surely they won't make the mistake of waiting to launch it off the back of the next X factor. Do you really think there will be another album on the same label? I can't see it if this album doesn't do reasonably well. Her last album didn't sell 100k even...its sad cos she's the best thing by far to have come out of x factor.
December 3, 201312 yr I predicted years ago that Leona would regret so badly neglecting her home fanbase. Do you mean rejecting the UK when you say that? I don't think that's why she is in the position she is in today, I just think she left it too long between her album releases and the material each time just hasn't clicked in the same way the first album did. 'Spirit' was a fabulous debut album and she never lived up to it, she never bettered it (I know many fans prefer 'Echo' for some reason) and that was her downfall.

Personally, I think that 'Spirit' is her worst, being 'Echo' her best and 'Glassheart' a really good effort too. IMO the most important reason is that she started her career with the best song of her history 'Bleeding Love'. For me it is like if Kylie Minogue's first single would be 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. When you give incredible songs like these, is hard to keep the same level of quality, and obviously everything that you release will be compared to that.

Bleeding love is certainly one of her best and most recognised songs. I do like the first album but like you, I prefer Echo and Glassheart overall. Spirit included three or four great songs but that was it. In comparison, Echo is full of great songs but lacks that one killer standout track. Glassheart is also a great album but again lacks a killer standout track.
December 3, 201312 yr I don't think airplay is really as essential if you're releasing a Christmas album - just look at Michael Buble, Susan Boyle, Rod Stewart, probably loads more I've missed etc. They don't really need airplay to succeed, in fact, I don't think they usually have a single released or it proves to have little effect overall. Its obviously a little early to judge and I'm sure it will sell more in the coming weeks, but its not great and - as others have already said - I think its been released far too late, Michael Buble's album was released on October 21st - it had sold a million by the time the year ended. Anyways, this week will be my birthday number 1 - can't believe I'm saying it, but out of the contenders, I'm supporting One Direction. They don't need lead singles I suppose ESP as most Xmas albums are an artists view of classic Christmas songs. But Rod Stewarts single of choice was Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas which actually got a cd single release in the second week of December last year (I got it :))! I think Michael Buble chose Cold December Night as his lead single - it got playlisted on radio 2 in 2010 - it actually peaked at no42 in the chart!
December 3, 201312 yr And we could be seeing Mariah Carey and The Pogues with their respectable yearly appearances in the top 40 Singles chart. Did you mean to say respectable, or respective? "Take or leave us, only please believe us, we ain't ever gonna be respectable"
December 4, 201312 yr One More Sleep deserves to be a hit for Leona, its the best attempt at a good Christmas song for many a year so i hope the X Factor performance gives it a good boost. I did think her Christmas album would be off to a better start than it is but again the X Factor performance is her best shot at getting sales. Im not a fan in general of Christmas albums i never buy them and for a long time Christmas albums never seemed to do well, Mariah and Celine back in the days when they were huge album sellers in the UK couldnt manage a successful Christmas album. Rod Stewart and especially Michael Buble bucked that trend in recent years but on the whole Christmas album dont do great so Leona for now looks to fall into that category. To be fair Rod Stewart and Michael Buble had itv specials at peaks tv time and bang middle of Christmas time that really drove their sales, maybe Leona should have tried that approach. Leona's next album needs to smash it, i loved spirit, echo and glassheart did not connect with me at all, one more sleep is her first single to connect with me since Run so id like it do well where as with her last few releases i wasnt overly concerned.

Kylie did at least start out with the pretty huge I Should Be So Lucky, which until 2001 was perhaps her best-known song. More like if Take That's first single had been Back for Good, there's no way they'd have ever matched it in their original run at least.

Other artists take breaks between albums but they keep their fans by touring and being involved in other projects. Leona has only done two tours since she won X factor all those years ago but has spent plenty of time doing corporate gigs abroad. When she's released albums she's relied heavily on X Factor then disappeared. As for whether she'll release another album with Syco. That will be depend on whether they want to try and claw back the money lost from the failure of her last album. This is after all is partly what this budget Xmas album is about. December 4, 201312 yr Kelly has a huge display in HMV! Britney is predicted at #39 in Sainsburys. LOL. You reap what you sow. No promo. No success.

Leona has only done two tours since she won X factor all those years ago but has spent plenty of time doing corporate gigs abroad. She's done a lot of other gigs that weren't coporate gigs though. She's done concerts in Asia/The Middle East/even the US at one point. Although I agree she could have done more and used social media more to connect with fans like she has now. It looks like she has been/will be more present this year/next year though. Earlier this year she toured Switzerland/Germany/UK with her Art On Ice & Glassheart tours. She's also been involved in a new movie which will be released next year and has a collab with Michael Bolton on his new album which will come out early next year. Also, she's told us she'll be touring Asia next year which will be quite exciting. I'm confident her 5th album will do decently, especially with her new management team. (They've been doing a really good job so far) Edited December 4, 201312 yr by Envoirment

December 4, 201312 yr Don't you worry about Leona. With no big promo she's doing all right. And let's not forget how much competition there is with Christmas albums this year. With X factor, Xtra factor and Johnathan Ross show performances she'll definitely outpeak first week sales :)
