Nothing against any individual posters but I don't think we really need to be begging more and more people to join BJSC, it's big enough as it is. Personally I'd like a cap at 50 as it is quite a chore to listen through that many songs every single month when half of them blend into each other and is what I believe is part of the reason for the rise in non-voters.

I've LOVED Fire Breather since it was featured on Earmilk a few months back, but thought it always lacked that UMPH to enter it here or at PJ, the remix really does improve a lot, although I would like to have seen more chorus played over the music breaks.

 

agreed, this remix gives it that little bit extra and I'm liking it.

There isn't really a 'rise in non-voters', last month was an anomaly. Aside from that recent contests have the same normal 1-3 non-voters or so. But even if there was I think any rise in the number of non-voters would be expected just from the fact that more entries means there are automatically more potential non-voters.

 

I think if any cap should be placed it should be 60, capping at 50 would mean people who wanted to enter would not be allowed to in all the recent contests. I think the number of entries is manageable (especially as you don't *have* to listen to all 50+ songs, just 25-28 in the semi and 31/32 in the final, 15 of which you will have already heard) but perhaps if it grew above 60 it may start to be a bit too much.

 

But anyway I don't want these people to join just for the sake of it, I just think they'd probably provide some good songs and such ~

And more entries means fewer listens to the bad tracks for me. Like there were some tracks last month of which I only listened to 1 minute snippets last month because I just knew there'd be no way they'd be in my votes. Not a big deal! I think the positives of more countries outweighs the negatives for me.

I still think there has been, in the past it's been pretty much only yourself and Casey! I'd say that's been a factor of both the times I've not voted (not trying to make excuses here guys!). Idk I guess there's two ways of looking at it. To me it feels like there's too many tracks to be able to judge them properly...

 

 

 

I don't buy the 'I don't have enough time' argument. As someone who works full time, studies for a professional qualification and moderates a fair chunk of this forum, I still find plenty of time to pass judgement on the tracks.

 

BJSC is unique in a way, as it's one of the only areas of Buzzjack that does not need new members. While we may not need them, we do want them. New blood is healthy, it keeps things from becoming static and for a particular sound for dominating for a long period of time. The moderators are aware of participant numbers and will speak up when we get concerned.

 

As it stands we are not proposing a cap (that failed hideously last time), nor are we concerned about the 'non-voting trend'. One contest does not a trend make. If there is a consistent rise in non-voters, amendments will be made to existing BJSC legislation accordingly. We have previously discussed all of this (it was a while ago, the previous mod era, but contingencies for higher numbers and further legislation for non-voters have already been discussed), so worry not. We got this.

 

 

I will say this: 'Recruitment' is not necessary but I have absolutely no problem with participants gently suggesting to muggles that they may wish to join in. As long as you play by the rules and the spirit of BJSC then you are more than welcome here.

i agree about the bjsc listening thing. you'll have to listen to 42 songs this month, at an average of 5 minutes i'd say which is 210 minutes. 3 and a half hours! and you only need to listen to 25 in the first 5 days. it's not that you don't have time, it's just that you can't be bothered to make time - it's supposed to be enjoyable after all!! if you're not enjoying the process of it month on month, why even bother participating? for the glory of it? i've managed to listen to all of the semi songs a couple of time this week and i've been pretty busy. it would mean nothing to me to win a contest where i didn't even care to listen to all of the songs.
