I agree with gooddelta and T Boy. I always thought it was a shame/somewhat surprising that 'Misery' didn't do a lot better considering how catchy and radio-friendly it is (and it most definitely doesn't fall into the 'plodding album filler' category!). I wouldn't describe 'Maps' as filler either though - it's definitely irritating but it stands out enough to be single-worthy, in my mind anyway. Still, 'Misery' is a much better song. 'Moves Like Jagger' plus (to a lesser extent) Adam being on The Voice before its release, has had an incredible impact on their brand and career.

Heart On Fire just doesn't 'sound' like a hit single at all rly (even in comparison to Solo Dancing), so i'm kinda unsurprised it's not doing anything. hopefully she has a stronger single lined up to preceed the album in October~

Wonder if the album was set for an releases next week until this single flopped!? Or was it always set to be released in Q4?

I fail to see how 'Misery' doesn't also fit in the 'plodding album filler' category. Unless 'unlistenable shite' is a mutually exclusive category to that.

The only difference is that people care about them to some degree now (and radio have started spamming them again).

Misery is definitely not anything like album filler, it's an obvious single with an incredibly radio friendly melody and chorus.

I don't dispute that, and the reason behind people caring about them again and radio spamming them again is because of Moves Like Jagger! Without that single Payphone wouldn't have gone anywhere near #1. Then again it wouldn't even exist as the band wouldn't have gone down that uber-commercial route in the first place to capitalise on the success of MLJ.

Also probably wouldn't have existed because IIRC they were planning to split around the time 'Moves Like Jagger' came out. If only :(

I really don't remember 'Misery' sounding like anything more than a dull album track but I will concede this point as I'm not exactly gonna go and look it up to remind myself.

Maps is actually not that bad by Maroon 5's standards. It's not exactly great, but it's not offensively bad like most of their other songs from the past couple of years.
I used to hate 'Maps' but the more I think about it, it's actually decent. Much better then 'One More Night', at least.

It was pushed back, they were going to release it September 1 but it was pushed back to October, presumably because Heart On Fire has done quite badly compared to Solo Dancing.

Great to see Taylor already gaining again, she might be able to overtake David again soon! :D
What kills you about Misery peaking at 30 is the fact that the no.1 that week was Start Without You. I mean REALLY.
I remember when Misery limped in at 30 four years ago and the comments in the Chart show thread were how it was 'too much like their old songs' and how they're beginning to sound dated :o  I really liked Misery actually, I dare say a fair bit more than anything they've released since.

What kills me more inside is that Foals' "Spanish Sahara" was released at that time and went to peak at #123.

Although granted "Start Without You" making number 1 is a traumatic event that has become a repressed chart memory, I mean it sounds like that cheese-fest Boney M song "Hooray Hooray It's A Holi-Holiday". No wonder R1 refused to play it out of embarrassment.

Those were run of the mill comments back then whenever deemed-irrelevant acts would chart low. It's amazing how since 2011 a lot of artists have been able to hit again when it seemed like they were over.

Come on for that Anastacia comeback later this year when people realise how good her latest album is.

My favourite of Maroon 5's latest output is 'One More Night' – I don't get the hate for it at all!

'Maps' is nothing spectacular but it's good to see them still getting success!

Never Gonna Leave This Bed should have been a huge hit.

Probably my favorite of theirs behind 'Makes Me Wonder' and 'Misery'.

This. I think this should have been their #1 instead of Payphone personally.

192. Anaconda - Nicki Minaj

255. New Flame (feat. Usher & Rick Ross) - Chris Brown

266. Ugly Heart - G.R.L.

304. Pushing On (Radio Edit) - Oliver $ & Jimi Jules

'One More Night' is easily their most tolerable single (not counting 'It Was Always You'). 'She Will Be Loved' is a good song but I can only enjoy it when other people are singing it.
So pleased to see the Chris Brown/Aaliyah track at #43, Such a tune and didn't deserve the #97 or something peak it smashed in at last year when it was released as a single!
