This seemed to get a bigger boost from his performance on Alan Carr than the actual song that he performed! (Although Joseph reliably informs me this was already massively gaining before that anyway for some reason). Still really liking this anyway, I do hope 'Listen To The Man' can join it (and 'Blame It On Me') in the top 40 next week.

Biography

Although the first solo single from soul-inspired, London-born artist Sam Smith was issued in early 2013, it was his soaring vocal contribution to Disclosure's October 2012 U.K. garage track "Latch" which brought him to most people's attention. For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes

Album Discussion Here

"Stay With Me" was very good for a while but now it sounds so nauseatingly bland I almost want to mute the chart show :manson:
So guess that

Sia

and

Hozier

are climbing, right?

Says something about how the singles chart has changed in recent years that "second single from album still T40 after the first one dropped out" is to be considered remarkable.

Surely that would be considered remarkable in any era?

Sales and chart runs may have been dire 10 years ago but I think I prefer 2004 tbh

Oh will you PISS OFF Sam. Why is this climbing again :arrr:

Maybe it's streaming what is causing the song to climb. I want this, "All About That Bass", "Thinking Out Loud" and "All Of Me" to drop out next

Maybe it's streaming what is causing the song to climb.

Oh yes I forgot streaming was only added to the chart this week. :P

Biography

Best known for her Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway smash Rent, singer/actress Idina Menzel made her solo debut in 1998 with the pop-soul effort Still I Can't Be Still. She joined the cast for Wicked in 2003 and appeared on the recording that same year, while 2004 saw her releasing the album Here. The following year, Menzel appeared on the soundtrack to the television show Desperate Housewives, and a duet with Ray Charles (which the pair had recorded back in 1998) found its way onto the tribute album Genius & Friends. In 2007, a dance version of Wicked's "Defying Gravity" became Menzel's first club hit. A year later she landed on the major label Warner Bros. and released a new album, I Stand. - iTunes

And my weekly sing-along session commences... this is still sounding stunning, amazing, insert adjective etc.
Let's hope she is not performing this tonight  on X Factor
