If you're one of those people who judge what's "remembered" by what still gets played on the radio in the future, then stuff like Christina Perri, Ed Sheeran, Bastille, Birdy, etc. will probably be remembered. Not sure about 50 years time, but Heart FM-type stations will probably be playing them in 20 years time.

I'm now imagining an older ML Hammer in 40 years time who has brought his children up listening to the classics such as Freak of the Week and Trap Queen

Can you imagine primary school children singing those songs in assembly?

The way that Joe Weller is increasing at the moment would suggest that he will be #1 on iTunes today possibly so kudos to whoever it was that said that One Direction might get knocked off #1 by Monday.

I can see Joe Weller decreasing before long tbf, surely it's just fanbase buys right now?

1D are decreasing quite slowly still compared to what I expected so I think #1 is looking good for them, along with the high streaming :D

30. Jess Glynne - Why Me [Can we not. I ask myself on a daily basis when I have to hear one of her songs]

45. Galantis - Peanut Butter Jelly

46. Selena Gomez Feat ASAP Rocky - Good For You

57. Charlie Puth Feat Meghan Trainor - Marvin Gaye

75. Meghan Trainor Feat John Legend - Like I'm Gonna Lose You [so disappointed to see this bomb, I have no idea why Radio 1 have snubbed both of her last two singles]

88. Charles Hamilton Feat Rita Ora - New York Raining [This has remained incredibly stable]

114. Sigala - Easy Love

120. Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me

Fanbase? This is his first hit, so can't even *have* a fanbase yet!

Number 1 for 1D this week is sure even if they will stop selling from now to Thursday. It's fine...

He does have 2 million subscribers on YouTube, so that probably constitutes enough of a fanbase, even if a good chunk of them possibly wouldn't know/care about his song.

Well, in my first year of primary school In da Club was released and everybody knew the words to that  Yeah! was seen as impossibly cool too from memory.

Wasn't sung in assembly though!

Well you explain how he's so high without a fanbase, airplay or promo then...

The Joe Weller song is actually really good, slay a bit!

I am not a fan of Birdy but she keeps returning to the chart.

The advert's been playing non-stop recently. Saw it at least 5 times yesterday evening.

#195. Jess Glynne - Don't Be So Hard On Yourself (pre-order)

Great to see this top 200 now, looks like it has a good chance at #1 when released in just under 2 weeks time!

That makes me feel old and I am only 24 haha.

I have been doing research over the spring/summer at a nature reserve where we get a lot of school trips coming through to visit. One of the classes vhich I saw, where the kids couldn't have been more than 8-10 had a big group of the boys all singing Bills!! Think that is going to be one of those songs that people will remember in 5-10 years time still like when I was that age it was stuff like Baha Men with Who Let the Dogs Out. People love a bit of novelty.
