Down to #14 in yesterday's midweek, which has now prompted Simon Boyle at The Sun to take all five of them down for knocking copy: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/10516...-solo-disaster/

This definitely has shades of late 2001 when similar pieces were being written about the Spice Girls' solo efforts all tanking to a lesser or greater degree.

I don't get why Harry is being put in the same category when his album is set to perform really well. I've seen a few comments like this now.

I wouldn't Niall has flopped either - his single managed to grow with each passing week which suggests it was growing in its audience reach.

I was gonna say Harry and Niall are the only ones doing anything approaching respectable chart wise at the moment.
They also have a sure idea of who they are as an artist which sets them apart from the other three, regardless of chart success.

The article would have been credible in years gone by when the chart format was different, solo Spice Girls getting a number 22 hit would have been seen as a disaster.

A Number 22 single now is perceived very differently for those who understand the charts.

Nialls Nice To Meet you have done very well and is not a flop, both himself and Harry have done very well and are both showing strong signs of successful second albums in addition to successful debuts.

It's interesting to look at their solo careers in comparison to how the Spice Girls fared — the press certainly enjoyed their decline, and it's the same here.

That's an absolutely ridiculous article though I wouldn't expect anything more from The Sun. Harry "only" possibly being #2 in the UK is such a non-issue when it's clearly going to sell so well, and most notably, be an easy #1 in the US. Niall's doing just fine too, and I don't think Louis' album will end up being a disaster either actually. Liam's album performance isn't great and obviously Icarus Falls was a disaster for Zayn but there's pretty clear reasoning for both beyond "a decline in 1D's careers."

Dire journalism

I’d agree on that.

ZAYN I feel does have an idea too though.

But Liam and Louis I feel sort of don’t. It’s funny how Louis of all 5 become the X factor judge because he’s the one with the least star quality, charisma, and he’s the weakest vocalist.

Debuts at..

#111 in the US!!!! (9.5k)

IM f***ING SCREAMING!!!! :')

Number 59 in the UK from looking at the midweek information released today.

I thought Liam may be enough of a name to secure an American Top 100 place, but clearly my assumption was incorrect.

It's an embarrassment without warrant... he's a name enough to have got a top 20 album I'd say... top 50 at the lowest... though surely his label saw the awful reception to his EP has a pre warning... Liam's music does not fit Liam... simple as... he should be making wishy washy ballads.

That's so embarrassing in the US!

He really should have had his album ready to go in 2017 when there was still some goodwill.
