Zara not in international female?!

I'd have said it's because she hasn't released her album yet but that hasn't stopped Ellie being in British Female  I assume she'll be nominated next year anyway after the album's release!

Bit rubbish not nominating Jack Garratt for anything. Aside from his album being pretty good, it just shows how very fickle the Brits are. He was the only new artist that pulled me in last year and this goes to show just how out of touch with popular tastes I've become.

Radiohead not being nominated for best album is just wrong

Tom Odell should have been nominated for best male too

Gaga AND Zara snubbed? Bye :hand:

Lianne La Havas released her album in 2015 lmao but delighted for her nomination anyway! She's so underrated even if her music is a soundbed to every middle class TV show. Delighted for Christine & the Queens too but wow what a big name category she's in especially in comparison to British Female. I'm not shocked at all at no Gaga, releasing an album doesn't guarantee a nomination which is also why Olly isn't a snub.

Also lol at Anne Marie & Rag N Bone Man being up for British Breakthrough despite apparently being Critics Choice for 2017 and Dua Lipa isn't nominated. I don't think Skepta is exactly a breakthrough when he's had hit singles in the past.

Yay at Biffy & Bastille nominations too!

I'm ready to absolutely rage when Little Mix inevitably lose Best Group to The f***ing 1975. If it's one of the others, I don't mind so much but I'll still be pissed off. The girls always get paid dust and despite pretty much saving British music in 2016, it'll probably not change. Not heard any of the albums, so disappointing bunch. Crap bunch of nominations overall really, I just hope Little Mix, Twenty One Pilots and Anne-Marie can win their awards.

Bowie has male and album in the bag, female will be Emeli Sande but I don't have a particular affinity for any of those 2016 wise. Hurts and Breathing Underwater are great but the album underwhelmed me.

I know it shouldn't all be about sales, but this does feel very Mercury Prize... It would have been nice for Glory Days to be nominated for album but it's the same sort of albums that get nominated and win, unless Ed Sheeran or Adele release and save us

OneRepublic snubbed :(
This is what annoyed me! We have perfectly semi-successful bands they could have included, yet they nominate Drake & Future!? If I was a group I'd be royally pissed. Also annoyed to see Ariana snubbed! I was 100% sure she'd get nommed! So that's a huge shock. It is the toughest category but I definitely sense a Christine & The Queens "upset" tbh.

Well group and video are out of the question for Little Mix, but I really hope they get Single at least. :(

On the whole the nominations list is a mess!

The winners will likely also be a mess.

I have to go against the grain and say that's actually a pretty good set of nominations! Not entirely to my tastes but I can still appreciate why pretty much every artist that is nominated was. A few wtfs like Lianne La Havas being up for British Female despite doing nothing this past year (no, seriously, why? Was she touring or something?) but I suppose it shows how lacking we are for successful British female acts. I suppose at least Amy Winehouse isn't nominated again like last year!

Similarly, I'm not too sure Drake & Future should qualify for Best International Group, although the BRITs did have Jay-Z & Kanye West up for the category in 2012. You may as well stick Michael Ball & Alfie Boe up for Best Group whilst you're at it.

The biggest surprise for me is Ariana Grande getting snubbed given she did release one of pop's most celebrated album last year. I suppose she was nominated last year in that category, despite not releasing an album and, as mentioned, if she was to be nominated this year, it would likely be at the expense of Solange and I think she is deserving of a nomination too, plus I can't argue with the rest of the noms.

Not shocked about Gaga or Olly Murs snubs - as said, releasing an album isn't solely grounds for getting nominated and I don't think critics nor the public have been particularly raving about their albums either. I do love Gaga's album but I can't argue about her not being nominated - Ariana would be more deserving too.

Nice to see some of the misjudged decisions from last year being rectified by having Little Mix up for Best Group and having grime/rap music represented - most importantly, for the latter, in a non-positive discriminatory way; all those artists have had critically and commercially strong years.

There's usually one or two curve-ball wins at the BRITs and I feel British Female is an obvious category to allow a less obvious name win. Similarly, looking at the International Female category, I'm getting really strong vibes of Solange taking the title home! That's definitely the category I'm most interested in seeing the results for - personally, I'm firmly behind Christine & The Queens (although Sia would be a close second, I just want to see a breakthrough act immediately scoop a big award ahead of the more established acts).

If that's tl;dr, basically: wtf Lianne, wtf Drake & Future; wtf Ariana snub; Gaga and Olly rightfully weren't nominated; yasss Little Mix; yasss grime represented; Christine & The Queens ftw!
Also, tbf to Olly, being asked to perform at the nominations party is kind of a kick in the teeth! It's like being asked by one of your friends, to help plan a party, that you're not invited to. Although I'm actually pretty shocked Robbie isn't nominated, considering he had new material out!
