It takes a while to find your feet - took me a whole year and thirteen consecutive contests of either DNQing or bottom 2 results :lol: Some were just misjudged, but I'm surprised how many I still enjoy and were just not quite right for the contest at that time.

 

Also, DNQing's better, you're saved the pain a second time and can just relax in the final amongst all these faces worrying how they're doing! It sucks initially, but I find it sucks more the shift in mood between qualifying and then tanking in the final.

I went with a song I've been obsessed with recently but I really think only about 3 other people will even like it but I'm keen to get back to my rocky roots for a while as it seems like an age since I've sent something like that

Don't know whether to go for experimental hip-hop that absolutely nobody is going to like or a synth infused alt-rock track.

 

I wanna know what the first song is even if you don't send it.

Well in terms of starting off I'd always suggest picking something you love right away (always send stuff you love tbh) and don't get carried away with high expectations because if you go into something with a neutral mindset and hope for the best result... when a song actually comes top 10 or whatever you'll be happy because you didn't assume something would smash hard. coming from experience as I thought this way for a lot of my songs in the first year and wondered why they didn't catch on when I was thinking "this'll come about top 20/10" etc. clearly a silly and unhealthy view to have. now I have got used to just sending stuff and hope for the best and maybe outperforms my expectations which then makes me thrilled when I see them come top 5 ala.

 

I must admit because my bottom 10 consistency was so annoying at the time I'd say DNQING with a song is better because t you can say that at least it won't likely be an 38th in the final as it deserves better than that.
