I agree it has been the worst year. Most of those number ones didn’t deserve to be there with the exception of Ed Sheehan, Lady Gaga and Jess Glynne.

Grouped, but not ranked in order. I could go without listening to any of my 'bad' choices ever again :puke2:

Good

One Kiss -Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa (Best)

Solo- Clean Bandit ftr Demi Lovato

Shotgun-George Ezra

Eastside-Benny Blanco, Khalid and Halsey

Promises-Calvin Harris and Sam Smith

OK

God's Plan - Drake

These Days - Rudimental Ftr Jess Glynne & Macklemore & Dan Caplen

Freaky Friday-Lil Dicky ftr Chris Brown

Nice for what- Drake

I'll Be There-Jess Glynne

Three Lions-The Lightning Seeds, David Baddiel & Frank Skinner

Funky Friday-Dave ftr Fredo

Shallow- Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

Thank U, Next- Ariana Grande

Bad

Perfect - Ed Sheeran

River -Eminem ftr Ed Sheeran

In My feelings- Drake

We Built This City-LadBaby (Worst)

Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

Yep voted for that one too, I find it boring and over-serious :( 'Shallow' is a bit boring too too but at least it wasn't as overplayed on radio and being a country ballad, is not something that makes the UK charts much.

Mmm, Idk if there's been that much of a difference between this year and last year in terms of quality. There are some truly terrible trends that I still wish would die (lack of variety, piss weak tropical house, mumbly hookless rap songs, obnoxious rappers with heinous crimes to their name somehow getting hits), but you get the odd diamond in the rust. I've only been a casual follower so have avoided a lot of the less notable stuff.

As for ranking the number 1s:

GREAT

Calvin Harris feat. Dua Lipa - One Kiss

Lady Gaga feat. Bradley Cooper - Shallow

Baddiel & Skinner feat. The Lightning Seeds - Three Lions (Still a classic even though I'd never listen to it outside of an international tournament and it getting there was an absolute moment that summed up a great feat for us)

Ariana Grande - Thank U Next

DECENT

Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

George Ezra - Shotgun

Drake - Nice For What

Benny Blanco feat. Khalid & Halsey - Eastside

Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato - Solo

TOLERABLE

Ed Sheeran - Perfect

Drake - In My Feelings

Calvin Harris feat. Sam Smith - Promises (I would've put this in the Decent/Good list at first, but it got sooo overplayed)

Drake - God's Plan

DREADFUL, BUT I'LL GIVE IT A PASS AS IT MADE ME LAUGH WHEN IT GOT THERE

LadBaby - We Built This City

OFFENSIVELY BLAND

Rudimental feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen - These Days

SHITE

Eminem feat. Ed Sheeran - River

Lil Dicky feat. Chris Brown - Freaky Friday

NOT HEARD (oops)

Dave feat. Fredo - Funky Friday

Freaky Friday would take it I think, I was a bit more positive about the concept/video at the start (the song was always terrible on it's own so god knows why people actually bought/listened to it), but I've changed my mind a bit since then - the humour/jokes are a bit brainless apart from the last part and it's essentially glorifying Chris Brown and making light of his own past which is just straight out dodgy.

Was going to vote Freaky Friday but I hate These Days to death- such a nauseating song and far removed from most of Rudimental's other songs which I loved. So glad it only got one week, and only because Drake went on ACR!

Didn't actually think this year was that bad for #1's, there's been better ones but I'll take this year over 2017. Then again though I do actually quite like Drake while most people don't :P Would probably order the #1's of this year like this, pretty much everything after Shotgun I either don't care much about or don't like-

1. Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss

2. Clean Bandit ft. Demi Lovato - Solo

3. Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

4. Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises

5. Drake - God's Plan

6. Ariana Grande - thank u, next

7. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - Shallow

8. Drake - Nice for What

9. Drake - In My Feelings

10. Dave ft Fredo- Funky Friday

11. Benny Blanco, Khalid & Halsey - Eastside

12. George Ezra - Shotgun

13. Baddiel & Skinner & The Lightning Seeds - Three Lions

14. LadBaby - We Built This City

15. Eminem ft. Ed Sheeran - River

16. Lil Dicky ft. Chris Brown - Freaky Friday.

17. Rudimental ft. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen - These Days

Drake - Gods Plan. 9 weeks at Number 1 and can’t remember how it goes. In fact it’s so bland I’d forgotten it before the song itself had finished.

This was a brilliant year IMO:

One Kiss, Shallow, Thank U Next and God's Plan are all future classics - songs that 2018 will be remembered for

Shotgun, Solo, Promises, In My Feelings and Nice for What are very decent!

(LadBaby is the worst IMO, Freaky Friday comes next)

I’m just surprised Drake managed to have 3 no.1s without me noticing.

OKAY TIER

LadBaby - We Built This City

Lil Dicky feat. Chris Brown - Freaky Friday (guilty pleasure)

Ed Sheeran - Perfect

Dave and Fredo - Funky Friday

SOLID TIER

Drake - In My Feelings

Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato - Solo

Ariana Grande - thank u, next

Benny Blanco, Khalid and Halsey - Eastside

Drake - God's Plan (guilty pleasure)

SWELL TIER

Eminem feat. Ed Sheeran - River

Drake - Nice For What

EXCELLENT TIER

Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

George Ezra - Shotgun

Rudimental feat. Macklemore, Jess Glynne and Dan Caplan - These Days

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper - Shallow

Calvin Harris feat. Sam Smith - Promises

Calvin Harris feat. Dua Lipa - One Kiss

Baddiel, Skinner And The Lightning Seeds - Three Lions

GREAT

One Kiss - Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa (don't seem to get bored of this, fantastic summery production, love the horns in particular)

Solo - Clean Bandit ft. Demi Lovato (shame about the phoned-in generic tropical toss album, they needn't have bothered)

Nice For What - Drake (actually very banging for a late 2010s Drake single, I know it owes a lot to Ms. Lauryn Hill)

Funky Friday - Dave ft. Fredo (this could be something to do with all the pisspoor Soundcloud rap and afro bashment making it sound better than is, but I genuinely really enjoy this)

Shallow - Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper (never thought she'd reach such chart heights again!)

GOOD

Promises - Calvin Harris and Sam Smith (this could have been in the 'great' section if it had a female vocal - does SS even like dance music or was he just trying to rescue his second era after various underperforming singles?)

Shotgun - George Ezra (this would have been nowhere near as successful if the weather hadn't been so glorious)

Three Lions - The Lightning Seeds, David Baddiel & Frank Skinner (great song in its time but belongs in the 90s really so relegated to the good list)

River - Eminem ft. Ed Sheeran (the Kamikaze era has been much more enjoyable but still liked seeing this at #1 in spite of Mr. MOR)

In My Feelings - Drake (far from his worst, at least it has a bit of zest to it)

We Built This City - LadBaby (obviously as tacky as feck but great cause, fun video and admire the way it came out of nowhere at a time when they said novelty hits could never be a thing again)

EXTREMELY AVERAGE BUT NOT DREADFUL

God's Plan - Drake (bit of a dirge but okay in the right mood)

BORING AND BLAND

Eastside - Benny Blanco, Khalid and Halsey (almost everything Khalid does bores me to tears)

These Days - Rudimental ft. Jess Glynne & Macklemore & Dan Caplen (what the hell has happened to Rudimental?)

I'll Be There - Jess Glynne (flaming yodelling?!)

Thank U, Next - Ariana Grande (very glad this snoozefest missed out on Xmas #1)

MINDLESS AND SOMEWHAT SINISTER SHITE

Freaky Friday - Lil Dicky ftr Chris Brown

INSIPID, CALCULATED, CYNICAL, OVEREXPOSED ABSOLUTE WORST

Perfect - Ed Sheeran

Edited by SavioursDay

In what world is Thank U Next a snoozefest? Have you really listened to it and the lyrics? :o

Yes, many, many times a week since it was released. I have paid close attention to the lyrics and I know she has been through a lot but I find the music/melodies very drab. No Tears Left To Cry is much more up my street.

We already had some bad #1 singles this year like the ones Jess Glynne was involved with and 'River', but 'We Built This City' truly takes the biscuit, it's so cringe-worthy!

My ranking would be:

01. Three Lions

02. Nice For What

03. Solo

04. Shallow

05. One Kiss

06. Promises

07. Funky Friday

08. In My Feelings

09. thank u, next

10. Shotgun

11. God's Plan

12. Perfect

13. Freaky Friday

14. Eastside

15. I'll Be There

16. River

17. These Days

18. We Built This City

LOVE

1. Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato - Solo

2. Ariana Grande - thank u, next

3. George Ezra - Shotgun

LIKE

4. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - Shallow

5. benny blanco, Halsey & Khalid - Eastside

6. Lil Dicky feat. Chris Brown - Freaky Friday

7. Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss

8. Ed Sheeran - Perfect

9. Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises

10. Dave & Fredo - Funky Friday

OKAY

11. Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

12. Drake - God's Plan

DON'T LIKE

13. Baddiel & Skinner & The Lightning Seeds - Three Lions

14. Drake - In My Feelings

15. Rudimental feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen - These Days

16. Eminem feat. Ed Sheeran - River

17. Drake - Nice For What

HORRIFIC

18. LadBaby - We Built This City

Mariah would go straight in at the top if she makes #1 this week, Ava would go second!

In My Feelings is my worst no1 of a dreadful year. At least Calvin and Ezra saved it! Mad that Nice For What the best of 3 poor No1s by Drake only managed 1 week whereas Gods Plan got 9 weeks. I know it's a matter of opinion but future classic????
