Soooo the Hot N Cold V Teenage Dream?

Hot N Cold is my fave Katy song so that to win BUT I won't complain if it doesn't because Teenage Dream is obviously incredible!

Someone, call the doctor! Yep, 'Hot N Cold' comes in as Buzzjack's second most popular Katy single, which is maybe a tiny bit of a surprise to me, but I'm not mad about it. It didn't get as many 10s as Never Really Over (And only one more than 'Bon Appetit' which came in at #17!), but it got more 11s and only a lone score of 6 as its lowest (U K Joseph?). 'Hot N Cold' was Katy's second ever smash and proved straight away that she was not a one hit wonder, and was here to stay. The moment I heard 'Hot N Cold' I was absolutely hooked and was shook at how quickly Miss Perry had the pop banger formula down. Oh, and it remains a stone cold banger to this day.

I mean was there ever any doubt? The taste jumped all the way out. 'Teenage Dream' is without a doubt one of the best pop songs of...all time? The way the chorus is so massive and catchy, but she manages to pack so many emotions in at the same time is an unrivaled moment. There's longing, there's sadness, there's hope, there's happiness. Dangling the idea of a life we never lived (and often could never) with all the regret and longing that follows; lyric-wise it's kind of a devastating song, perfectly disguised as a euphoric bop. And do you know what else I love about 'Teenage Dream'. I love that it was the smash it deserved to be around the world in the height of Katy-mania, but isn't her biggest like 'Roar' or 'Firework' so doesn't get overplayed to the point of numbness at every hen party across the world, whilst still getting the respect and recognition it deserves.

Never Really Over 3rd :wub: It's instantly one of my favourite ever Katy songs, I'm pleased that it's been so warmly received. Now let's just hope the public get it into the Top 10!

 

Hot N Cold isn't really one of my big faves but I certainly appreciate it for instantly removing the possible one hit wonder status and ensuring that Katy was here to stay!

 

Yaaas my fave won :cheer: :heart: Teenage Dream really is that song, one of the best of the 2010s. That is the perfect write up for it Joe :wub: The UK having Olly Murs at #1 instead though... choices.

Ugh what a fabulous winner :wub: One of my all time favourite songs and I completely agree with Joe about it not being overexposed to the level of her bigger hits! Shook to see Hot N Cold at #2 though, I do adore it but it feels a lot more of its time than the rest of the top 10. Never Really Over will likely be second next time this is run then? :o

The best song won - one of the most glorious moments in pop this past decade.

 

This is quite the statement, especially so soon, but (for me) Never Really Over is her best single since Teenage Dream. It nails that melancholic and euphoric rush that Teenage Dream also does. It’s why I love pop music.
