I don't think Scarlet's behaviour is anything close to say Jack Maynard from I'm A Celeb who was mentioned, making a few comments as a teen is totally different to Scarlet intentionally doing blackface multiple times as an adult. I have found her apologies to be really hollow, the reaction from her friends really is not helping either. I think it is important to note that Aussie society is very racist and those thoughts can easily be ingrained, however by this point Scarlet was an adult immersed in drag culture and you'd really have thought she should have learned. Like I said, a few comments is a very different thing to consciously putting on blackface, using Asian culture as a laughing point in your act AT MULTIPLE POINTS (it wasn't just once). At best, that is incredibly ignorant. For a show like Drag Race, I don't think that should be brushed over and rewarded. Some of the examples of her behaviour are as recent as 2018, and of course that's 3 years and people can change, but all I've seen of her apologising is very generic Youtuber addressing a scandal kind of apology. There's a lot further for her to go than some hollow words posted on social media!

I can't believe this site will defend racism because someone did a good lipsync and a good pole dance on a drag show - slay fierce queen I guess? :/

I wasn't defending racism at all - I guess my comments were more about cancel culture in general.

I'll watch the episodes though to see her 'apology'. I wasn't aware of the continual uses of racism as part of her act either - so maybe this does go deeper than a one off ignorant moment

I know right

I definitely think people can learn and grow and we shouldn't cancel everyone and everything for things they have done in the past, but Scarlett has quite a big history when it comes to things like this and her apologies did not come across sincere at all. Obviously, as a white person, it's not up to me to decide 'when she has done again', but I think she needs to grow and learn a lot more. One of my friends even stopped watching the show because Scarlett's black face hurt her too much and she doesn't want to be confronted with her at the moment.

Also, besides the racism, I think Scarlett comes across quite mean and catty in general. Definitely not the kind of person who should get a crown and represent the drag community imo.

100%! That is a big part of the issue for me, I wouldn't have been against her winning if she genuinely apologised and seemed like a better person for it, but she's not. Most of her storyline all season has been that she is mean to others, particularly Elektra, with a real superiority complex. This may sound really judgemental in itself but she reminds me of any generic bitchy social media gay and that is not a cute look. I can't think of a single moment of humanity, development or likability, just this one dimensional bitchy twink with a racist past who happened to do well on a few challenges (and tbh, her winning two of them was a stretch, she has hardly steamrolled).

Especially when it comes across that she is only sorry she got called out, I think having somebody like her represent the franchise with a crown would be awful for the show and community.

Being a sexual predator and what she did is extremely different though isn't it? Also the things she did were very current and not something she did due to being young, ignorant or both.

If we're going there, Scarlet is only one year younger than Sherry.

Personally the 'I was young and didnt know' defense makes me uneasy because it isn't true. 'I was ignorant' would have been a better defense rather than an excuse.

She lied this episode about her pole experience too - she literally works as a pole instructor but was claiming this was her first time performing. Sure Jan.

Exactly this even with the racism aside she seems shallow and unlikeable and has no redeeming qualities at all. Also I really do not buy her apologies at all.

Really don’t want her to win. Couldn’t care less about track record on the show. I didn’t agree with all of her wins anyway

Yeah, I know she did it in 2012, but to have been repeating it on numerous occasions up until 2018, which isn't even that long ago, as a grown ass 24 year old man, is ridiculous. If someone was racist, but then learned how wrong they were and changed, that to me is understandable. People get taught bad things a lot of the time by the people around them. But this is a whole other thing. Scarlet chose to do black face, mocking aboriginal people on Invasion day, made a public show out of it, and made MONEY off it.

She has dressed as a Bollywood star, newsreader Lee Lin Chin, Pocahontas, performed in Burmese neck-rings, used the N-word and the C-word (c**n). These were not one off mistakes.

Whether she is the best performer in this series is honestly irrelevant when you bear all of this in mind, she CANNOT be crowned because of the message it sends out to be crowning someone like this. This is a show that is currently riding off the back of Yvie Oddly, Jaida Essence Hall, Priyanka, Shea Coulee, Symone etc winning, showing the world what black excellence truly is - what kind of message does it then send to backtrack and say THIS is the "next Drag superstar" in 2021?

Kita Mean is genuinely the only option.

Couldn't have put it better myself!

The show is more than a bunch of challenges, the winner represents our community and drag itself on a worldwide stage. And that behaviour is not what we want representing us. It just absolutely baffles me that someone would disregard abhorrent behaviour like this because she did well at a few challenges on a TV show. Tone deaf and privileged at absolute best.

I do think she shouldn't have done the show bc of the backlash. Ideally she would have apologised better too. Taken the lead from her sisters.

But I'm kind of getting to the stage where I hope she either engages with this to stop this or herself drops out, because people aren't otherwise going to stop coming for her and I can see that becoming psychologically very hard on her.

Thank you for this, put everything I was thinking into words. Kita Mean is the only viable option imo.

Thank god

Kita is such a sweetheart, well deserved  She deserves it not just as a queen but as a person, for all she's overcome and the growth she's had through the competition. They spent all the time saying Scarlet smashed, was versatile, but there was not one challenge that Kita didn't do well in, despite her talent show bottom 2. Pure unbridled joy every time she comes on stage

It's also incredible that she was near unanimously first out in all the tea before the show premiered, and now she's won!

oh thank f*** for that

Apparently Art is going all sour grapes and exposed production for making her re-film her elimination  To me she really seems like she didn't like losing/not having exactly a great run on the show.

But then she really did get a weird/arc edit didn't she? Like she was the biggest name going into it and it was really hers to lose, I thought that she might get one of those cruise to the win edits with a really inflated track record, but she didn't get the win she deserved week 1, they ousted her week 2 when they could have used the bad Snatch Game to save her (especially given they made a point of putting most of them in the bottom there), but then just pulled full on rigga morris to bring her back for no reason? Overall I think she was favoured though, to me the elimination and return felt like they were trying to build a returning winner storyline but Art just didn't do anywhere near well enough to justify that.

This series was just such a mess there's a lot to go over now it's done

Yeah I don't think I've ever seen such a weird edit as I have with Art. She was kind of just... there... the entire time? Never shone in the main challenges (the runways, however, are beyond spectacular each time! and f***ing F L A W L E S S makeup) and they can't just give her a win based off that no matter how hard they were counting on Art to do the bare winner minimum and hand her the crown. Just goes to show that the biggest names don't always fit into the format very well, and vice versa!
I saw a conspiracy theory that Art may have been the originally intended host before due to covid Ru and Michelle had the time free to travel and film and so she was downgraded to contestant but promised to make it to the last episode.

I’m just glad it’s over — an absolute mess.

I feel a little foolish for having a good feeling about All Stars though…

Thank god Kita won !

Genuinely would have only had her in my top 4 out of the 4 that actually made it. She also seemed so sincere and emotional we’re the other 3 felt like they were trying to squeeze any kind of emotion out to look human or was that just me ? 😂
