Yeah Ellie's River probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't an Amazon Exclusive. They've released covers for a load of artists recently.

I think it's actually quite likely Stormzy will have lower sales this week than Ava did to get the post-Xmas #1 last year (he did 68k last week and will likely drop this week, while Ava did 65k that week). Whereas Mariah has been consistently having higher weekly sales compared to the same week last year, and this year the post-Xmas chart has an entire extra day of the peak Christmas song streaming period included. Mariah should be able to get #1 unless the massive increase in Christmas song streams on the 24th/25th somehow doesn't materialise this year.

Buzzjack sometimes seem to think everything revolves around Spotify just because of the way the update their charts - Apple & Amazon have been gaining on them for market share all year.

Think No1 depends on how well Stormzy holds up on Spotify because Mariah and Wham being on ACR means they need to do 1m streams ih just to be ahead of him on streaming. Given that they are both behind him on iTunes too I can't see either of them getting to No1. Plus Stormzy will have 2 days of gift effect- Wednesday online and Thursday in stores

Does "gift effect" even have much impact now?

In a streaming sense maybe if people get gift cards they may start with streaming top tracks of the year but otherwise its impact is less than that of what iTunes used to be

Spotify is one platform. The overall numbers clearly show that Stormzy is simply not 'doing much better than Ava' at all, he's doing very marginally better at most if not slightly worse.

I think this weeks chart should be considered the Christmas chart tbh. Let's re-calculate history tbh.

Both this Friday's chart and the one on 3rd January should (if the OCC remains consistent) count as 2019 charts. Every chart dated 9th January going right back to the 80s has been counted into the previous year so that's my logic.
