Melania Trump has unequivicably condemned last week's attack on the Capitol building. As it was happening she Tweeted saying "these are our patriots" but then quickly deleted it. She admits she was wrong to say that now.

According to The Times, Golf is now also turning it's back on Trump with the Royal & Ancient saying there is no chance in the foreseeable future of the British Open being played on Trump's Scottish course.

A bit of a change as last year when Trump was looking like he might win the election and the R&A said his course would be used in the "not to distant future".

Similarly in the US, the PGA have cancelled a contract with Trump declaring that playing on a Trump course would be detrimental to the PGA brand.

the joke is of course: what leftist golf course owners?

seriously the amount of people misusing the word Orwellian I've seen online over the past few days and various other people saying 'well if they could ban Trump, well they could ban anyone'. On the other hand, most of us don't incite violence in a nation's capital.

It's nice seeing the entirety of polite society turn its back on him, just a shame it couldn't have come several years earlier.

Ivanka Trump has huge bust up with her dad.

From The Mail.

EXCLUSIVE: Ivanka has bust up with her dad over her plan to go to Biden's inauguration so she would 'come across as a good sport' and save her 'political career' - which Donald said was the 'worst decision she could make'

Ivanka Trump had plans to go against her father's wishes and attend Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20, DailyMail.com can reveal

She worried that her 'promising political career is in jeopardy' and is doing 'whatever she can to save her reputation,' a White House insider says

President Trump was up in arms about Ivanka's decision, calling it the 'worst decision she could ever make'

'Ivanka is convinced that by attending Biden's inauguration she will come across as a good sport and will gain future supporters,' the source says

Donald Trump made it clear he wouldn't be attending Joe Biden's inauguration in a tweet last week - before his social media accounts were suspended

'The White House is being dubbed a circus on steroids with Trump's kids desperately vying for control,' the insider added

House Democrats formally introduced articles to impeach Trump Monday, charging him with 'incitement of insurrection'

She only wants to go for selfish reasons so imo should keep away then.

I really don't care about Melania 'unequivocally condemning' the riots a week later, or what Ivanka thinks about anything. Pointless fluff.

Oh yeah ‘1984’ is the new lazy universal ‘argument’ to use in any situation that involves people facing consequences for their actions when you don’t understand what’s going on and want to sound smart.
She only wants to go for selfish reasons so imo should keep away then.

Why are you so bothered what Trump’s family are all doing? It’s almost like you’re still a Trump fan.

BREAKING NEWS: Selfish human being proves themselves to be selfish human being in face of overwhelming evidence proving them to be a selfish human being.

(feel free to replace selfish with whatever phrase seems most fitting)

Trump probably doesn't want Ivanka to go because he knows there's a possibility his terrorist fans might do some real damage there. I honestly fear some massive plot is planned for the 20th and that's why Trump informed everyone that he won't be there.

Sky saying State Of Emergency declared in DS now by Trump as further trouble is predicted. The FBI fears trouble in all 50 states.

Another massive armed protest in Washington expected before 20th.

Trump's declaration allows the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate with local authorities as Democrats had been furiously demanding

On Monday night, new chiefs of Capitol Police told House Democrats they were looking into three separate plans to hold protests, including one described as 'largest armed protest ever to take place on American soil'

But the most concerning is said to involve armed rioters encircling the Capitol and blocking Democrats from entering - killing them if necessary - so that Republicans are able to take command of government

Another protest is being planned in honor of Ashli Babbitt, the USAF veteran who was shot at point blank range by a police officer as she tried to clamber into the Speaker's Lobby during the Trump mob's siege

FBI alerted staff to possible armed protests at capitols in all 50 states in the days leading to Inauguration Day

Agency says it discovered intel a group was calling for the 'storming' of state, local and federal government buildings, as well as court houses if Trump is removed from office before Joe Biden enters the White House

Comes as Pelosi introduced article of impeachment accusing Trump of incitement to insurrection Monday

Ashli Babbitt and all the other fatalities in the Washington protests should of course be honoured but not in anything involving an 'armed protest' in my opinion. Hopefully any protests that do take place will be peaceful.

Of course there should be no more armed protests. My worry is that there'll be such a huge police presence in DC that much nothing will happen there but it will in other cities.

Can't see Trump being removed before next Wednesday. There's only exactly a week to go now anyway.

Indeed. 'Save her political career'. What political career?

Exhibit A:

Anyway, whilst I do somewhat agree that tech companies have far too much power, and that the removal of Trump from social media platforms was hardly that brave given that he is a lame duck President leaving office in under 10 days, (and arguably for far less potentially inciteful tweets than he has written in the past - 'when the looting starts, the shooting stars' ... I mean... ), I don't agree with those who say that this is Orwellian or that it will only drive the Trump cult underground where it will thrive further. Evidence shows that with Stephen Yaxley-Lennon removed from Twitter this has reduced his support by only encouraging those who already agree with him to seek out his views and other like-minded awful racists, rather than reach to a wider audience who could be persuaded by his arguments. Shut this shite down and you have a much better chance of starving it of oxygen and allowing it to die back.

From Business Insider. Merkel says Twitter blocking of Trump is threat to Free Speech.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is critical of Twitter for blocking President Donald Trump's Twitter account, with her top spokesman calling the move "problematic."

"The right to freedom of opinion is of fundamental importance," the spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said on Monday at a news conference in comments reported by Reuters.

"Given that, the chancellor considers it problematic that the president's accounts have been permanently suspended," he said.

Ivanka is a global laughing stock. No one thinks she has a hope at a political career outwith the US far right who are frankly delusional morons.

R&A has long had a blockade on both his Scottish Courses infamously quoted as neither will host the Open for as long as it’s owned by and associated with Trump. The man is near universally detested in Scotland and the course in Aberdeenshire is slated as being shite

Terrorist don’t deserve to be honoured

That is a misquote of what Merkel said that has been doing the rounds on the English language media. Not even the German tabloid press frames the quote as this which should indicate how badly the English language press have got it

I thought as much re: Merkel - I share her concerns about the Tech companies having so much power and control - and yes they should be held more accountable but that is another debate.

I'd really like Chris to give his opinion instead of just pasting news articles.

This isn't an attack on Free Speech.

To quote from The Human Rights Act

Public authorities may restrict this right if they can show that their action is lawful, necessary and proportionate in order to:
  • protect national security, territorial integrity (the borders of the state) or public safety

  • prevent disorder or crime

  • protect health or morals

  • protect the rights and reputations of other people

  • prevent the disclosure of information received in confidence

  • maintain the authority and impartiality of judges

IMO - This breaks Article 10 and he should have been warned and had the offending post removed.

Sharing/retweeting far-right, British fascist political organisation Britain First should have got him banned. A leader has a responsibility, sure - you can have free speech but it is a right that you must not abuse.

I agree that he shouldn't have used the last few words about shooting. He could have said "when the looting starts we will get tougher" Something like that.
