This is the kind of media blackout that is needed to hit him right where it hurts, great news. Parler can have him x

I would love to see him impeached if it means he can't run again, but sadly I can see him just hanging on, albeit heavily muzzled, for the last two weeks. I just really hope Biden's inauguration doesn't have similar scenes.

The U.S police will be much better prepared for Biden's inauguration, especially as the protests happened in the same area where the inauguration is due to take place. I personally think it might be better to have it behind closed doors but hopefully at least Biden and Harris will have some sort of protective shield around them on the day.

So Common Sense, what do you think about Trump now, and do you still think "being funny" is a qualifying trait for president/ prime minister?

Also, I am unsure on one point. If Trump is impeached by the House, does that disbar him from future office, OR does that only happen if he is then convicted by the Senate?

I'm sad that he's leaving office as I would be for any President losing an election and thus serving just one term. I think they need two terms to get things done and the country as they want it. One thing, as someone elsewhere said, he took up some newspaper columns and inches on web forums etc. We'll all be bored when he's gone and Brexit's done! Can't see Biden being even a millionth as interesting. I used to look forward to Donald's late night Tweets and rants. :D

He has to be convicted. I looked it up yesterday. Then they can bar him from ever seeking public office again. Otherwise he can stand in 2024.

I'm pretty sure having elected representatives that are actually competent and will do the job they're there to do is preferable to 'being interesting'. That's ultimately what will make Biden and Harris more interesting - working and fighting for material change, for the better.

There were rumours that Trump and his whole advisors and personal friends were looking for presidential pardons. The guy has clearly done some illegal stuff, as have all his advisors.

I cannot see him running in 2024, any wider support he had with the Republican Party he lost after the Capitol exploits. The guy is finished.

What about Ivanka or one of his sons? Either was tipped for a run next time, up against Biden or Harris. Maybe the party won't want to be associated with another Trump. :(

Bored?? Brexshit is just beginnin. Like I said, next up: Scottish independence. It's a done deal.

With the massive support he has with the MAGAs, which make up a big part of the party he can easily clinch the nomination, whether or not the moderates have abandoned him.

He won't get the nomination in 2024. I'd bet my house on it. Regardless of what he's like, if he's lost an election then he's likely to lose another, and they won't chance it. I think Nicky Haley has a good chance.

He could stand as an Independent though and bet he'd get a lot of votes.

What do you think about him inciting the violence earlier this week?

I think it was wrong. Bet that's not the answer any of you expected is it? ;) I hope there'll be no more trouble on 20th but there's been a call for them and a lot more to go to DC again. I believe the 6pm to 6am curfew lasts until 21st now though. May have to be moved inside at the very last minute they say but Biden and Harris don't really want that. Am sure the police, NG, FBI and especially the SS will have DC locked down tightly. They're going to draft hundreds more Secret Service agents in from all over the US. They have the ultimate responsibilty to protect the President. Remember Trump also gets SS protection for life and Pence for 6 months although am sure an application will go in to Biden for this to be extended now. Could even be for his lifetime I've read as there are people very very angry with him.

I wish Trump had decided to attend. Pence will be there. :( If I was in his shoes though and truly believed in my own mind that I was cheated out of a second term, even if I hadn't been, then I don't think I could bear to see my successor sworn in. It's human nature to be upset and angry.

Sky say Trump and Pence aren't talking. He has apparently told staff that Pence is gutless and a traitor and is absolutely furious with him. The last Cabinet meeting's next week and apparently Trump's barred Pence and also from the dinner given for the outgoing Cabinet and their spouses by him later in the week. Rumours that Pence is to meet Harris over lunch which has angered Trump even more as he's refused to meet Biden.

I just wish it hadn't ended with so much animosity and Trump had been a bit more magnanimous and met Biden in these last few weeks. I know it's his fault and he's a poor loser. It's sad that he's leaving and not even on speaking terms with his VP. :( Makes these last days very awkward for both of them as there are meetings both usually attend such as morning security briefings.

I know that. Am up to date on all news. Have pop-ups from most of the newspapers with breaking news. :)

Actually this is exactly the answer I expected. Condemning the action but going to relate to this monster on some sort of ‘human’ level. His actions earlier this week were nothing new, he’s always been like this.

So if it was wrong are you happy that a leader you supported and still ‘feel bad about not getting re-elected’ has principles which dictate people bearing arms and trying to start an insurrection?

I doubt Biden will be too unhappy that Trump won't be present at the inauguration, he might actually be relieved as he may fear Trump might start arguing with people there if he did go!
