Yes, I think, unless the Trump brand is completely destroyed by arrests and so on, one of his demon spawn will go for it.

Kamala Harris v Ivanka Trump!

Doubt that Donald would get the nomination again even if he tried. Losing candidates never do.

It does feel like Ivanka is being “groomed” for it, but I’d assume in the way of Trumpism the Republicans will do an about face and go for someone like Nikki Haley. At the very least I can’t see if being a male nominee (regardless of what happens in 4 weeks)

I think if Trump loses badly in November, the obvious prediction would be in reaction to that, the next Republican presidential candidate will be one on the centre or even the left wing of the party.

A bad Trump loss would also make it less likely of course that any of his family would be presidential candidates in future.

When did a losing candidate last try?

Before Covid, I would have been inclined to agree that a heavy defeat might make the Republicans have a major rethink. Now I'm not so sure. A lot will blame Covid rather than considering Trump might have had something to do with it.

Just been reading that the Republicans, new line of attack in the next four weeks will be on Covid mainly. They'll say Trump knows more about the virus now as he's had it but Biden hasn't.

Did you see the guy ranting outside the medical facility today? "I would die for Trump. I'd give my life for that man. He's the greatest, wonderful man, awesome, the best" They were chanting "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" too.

No it wasn't me folks. :D

So they have decided to attack Biden for NOT having Covid. I won't say they couldn't get any lower but, with four weeks to go, I'm sure they'll find a way.

From CNN

Two-thirds of Americans say President Donald Trump handled the risk of coronavirus infection to others around him irresponsibly, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS in the days following the announcement that the President had contracted the virus that has disrupted everyday life for millions of people for more than half a year.

With Trump hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, 69% of Americans said they trusted little of what they heard from the White House about the President's health, with only 12% saying they trusted almost all of it.

Disapproval of the President's handling of the coronavirus outbreak stands at a new high in the survey, with 60% saying they disapprove. Additionally, 63% say his own infection is unlikely to change anything about the way that he handles the pandemic.

Questions about Trump's coronavirus diagnosis were added to a survey already in progress on Friday.

Overall, Trump's approval rating in the poll stands at 40% approve to 57% disapprove. Disapproval is up from 53% in early September.

Oh, so he will be just attacking Biden boasting he had the virus instead of actually starting to do something about this (to quote Trump himself) "hoax" 7 months down the line after 200k deaths. Lovely and not at all fascist/psychotic/selfish.

The Republican party has a left wing?

...the Republican party has a centrist wing?

actually think democrats are more inclined to inch to the right to pick up the disillusioned never trumpers. the bubble will burst though. there is simply no tent big enough for the Democratic Party to try to appease everyone.

as for the republican party, going "left-wing" would be like... going back to reagan-style conservatism which lmao. there is no resurrecting it and I hope to every god it crumbles this decade. truly a blight on the past 50 years or so

At the moment I'd predict the most likely next Republican nominee is either going to be Ivanka, Nikki Haley, or stratofascist Sen. Tom Cotton, and hopefully they aren't able to catch the same perfect storm of events that led to Trump getting elected. I can't see their current course lasting well for them if the Democrats continue to pick up conservatives, it's getting to a point where on current trends in two or three cycles the biggest solidly Republican state will be Tennessee and they'll never win the Presidency from there.

What with their party apparatus, I think more likely than Greens or a new Progressive Party splintering the Democrats, is a second party switch where the Republicans just end up heading more populist and pick up populist left - this isn't for at least another two decades though, and would need a left-wing mirror of Goldwater as a candidate to start off the process AND the Democrats to not have their own populist/progressive candidate (AOC?) in that timeframe.

we'd have to see how the next Democrat presidency shakes out though because indeed they can't hold this coalition forever. On the flipside, Harris won't hold the conservative Dems anywhere near as well as Biden so if she's the nominee then the Republicans might (unfortunately) have a chance with a Cotton run.

also kind of convinced that the sole reason so many people are still Republicans in America is because of the abortion issue and how Democrats 'kill babies', I don't know if that's going to be sorted ever but its certainly a contributor to polarisation.

also lol at Claudia Conway (15 y/o daughter of Kellyanne Conway) claiming on TikTok that Trump isn't 'doing better' and they're doing all they can to stabilise him.

if a teenage girl brings down this administration by announcing his death before they're ready that will be a fitting conclusion

Well he's back at the WH now. He went back last night and made a balcony appearance but seemed to be struggling for breath.

This whole weekend has been very Neo-fascist the way the doctors all came out for the press conference and all!

Gosh, they really ARE desperate to show he’s doing better with all of those (beyond f***ing stupid and selfish) joyrides in cars and helicopters.

I love that tweet where he tells people who don’t have access to private doctors 24/7 to not be afraid of the virus.
