We get one on the 1st January instead!!

That's to recover from the binge the night before and you know it !!

Because it’s our Independence Day like America’s is 4th July

Independence from what? Sanity? If you mean to celebrate leaving the EU, the referendum was held on 23rd June 2016, why not have it then?

You having a glass of champagne at 11 Chris?

I've had a bottle actually. :)

I see Macron's laid in to Britain in a blistering attack, saying that "Brexit is a product of a load of false promises by the British Leave campaign".

Never mind him. He's just narked that we've had the gall to leave and now other countries will no doubt follow putting the entire EU in doubt. Even his own father dislikes him. :D

From The Mail

Macron sparked fury today by claiming Brexit was the product of 'lies and false promises' in a bitter broadside at Britain's departure from the EU.

The French president lashed out at the UK's decision to quit the block on the night it finally took place, more than four years after the Brexit referendum.

He used his New Year address to his nation to castigate the UK's decision to go it alone after agreeing a trade deal which could damage the French fishing fleet - and his grip on power.

In the address delivered from the Elysee Palace, Paris, Mr Macron questioned the strength of Britain's sovereignty following its departure from the European Union.

'A few days ago, we reached an agreement to organise our future relations, defending our interests, our industries, our fishermen and our unity, he said in a video address,' he said.

'The United Kingdom remains our neighbour but also our friend and ally. This choice of leaving Europe, this Brexit, was the child of European malaise and lots of lies and false promises.'

The video address came after his father, Jean-Michel Macron, 70, spoke publicly about his son for the first time since he entered office in 2017 and denounced him as a 'self-serving' politician.

Is his father demonstrating that dislike by taking out British citizenship?

No but that's irrelevant. He shouldn't be criticising the winning side of a referendum in another country and accuse it of lies, falsehoods, broken promises and whatever else he said about them. The British PM led that campaign so he's criticising him basically.

Macron is actually quite unpopular in France (Marine Le Pen is eroding his narrow poll lead and close to being neck-and-neck with him in the polls :o ) so this is just a distraction technique to take media attention away from his own domestic failures. With the 2022 elections looming, and rumours of Michel Barnier running for President expect more and more of this.

His statement is true which is more than can be said of most of what Johnson ever says.

I love how the french presidential elections work to bring the far right to the edge of glory every campaign and then they easily lose when all the centrists end up voting a centrist in in the final count!

France is so right wing now, even Macron is said to be moving from having centrist to centre-right policies.

New border rules introduced last week are already creating problems for exporters and traders, say firms.

On Friday, Marks & Spencer became the latest company to warn of the administrative burden and increase in export costs to some countries.

Parcels firm DPD has already suspended some services and there have been warnings from seafood exporters.

One export trade body told the BBC there was a "growing problem and sense of unease" among its members.

Shane Brennan, chief executive of the Cold Chain Federation, which represents chilled transport and storage companies, said the emerging problems have come despite the amount of cross border traffic still being quite low.

"Trade flows are still only about 50% of what we would expect, but even at those levels we are seeing levels of confusion and delays," he told the BBC's Today programme. "The feeling is we are building to quite a significant potential disruption."

M&S said the new trade arrangements were creating "very complex administrative processes". The red tape burden, along with potential tariffs on some exports "will significantly impact our businesses" in Ireland, the Czech Republic, and France, the retailer said.

Going well then... :D

The UK made it mandatory for anyone selling B2C into the UK to charge UK VAT on sales. Did they give sufficient notice to businesses to get registered for UK VAT? No they did not.

A metric f***tonne of EU and nEU companies are just straight up refusing to sell anything B2C into the UK now. Brexit has not only made us smaller, weaker, poorer, dumber and less important but actually implemented trade barriers with the rest of the world that are *so* bad businesses would rather cut off the UK than deal with the cost of compliance

Of course there'll be teething problems until firms get used to all the new paperwork required. Even ministers said this would be the case. Give it a few weeks and everything will be fine. At least we don't have the car parks full of lorries in Kent that were predicted.

What does the extra paper work achieve? It is an additional and totally unnecessary cost.
