I am hoping they relax a bit the restrictions to let some travel to visit family IF you then stay there in isolation for some time after (7 days or whatever), just as I haven't been able to see my family since xmas and its a bitch timing wise.

I feel you.

My parents asked two weeks ago, before either of our countries went into lockdown if I wanted to come home. But I’m too scared of being one of those asymptomatic carriers and bringing it home. Especially as my age bracket is the most heavily infected in Berlin. The other fear was when would I be able to come back to Germany with all the travel restrictions.

I haven’t seen my folks since Xmas either and I’m not getting to go home in June because Euro 2020 meant the flight prices were insane (£400+ on KLM and £250 on f***ing easyJet) and I dunno if my parents will make it out here in October now with all this so it could be Xmas before I can go home again and then I’m going to have to cut that trip short to be home before the end of the year because that lying charlatan refuses to extend the transition period

That's going to be a difficult process to manage. They probably need to start getting the message across now that the transition itself will take a good two to three months.

There was an interesting piece in the paper last week about Spanish flu in 1918. There was an early wave in the first part of the year and then a much worse phase later in the year. When the war ended in November, one of the virologists who had been advising the government pleaded with them to restrict the celebrations. The government ignored that advice and millions of people poured onto the streets. How much that contributed to the second wave, we can never be sure but it should be a warning to governments everywhere at this time.

The second, stronger wave was due to people moving around with the war, however.

That was part of it but the street celebrations almost certainly added to it.

Re: lying Johnson.

The problem with people who blatantly lie, often, and provably, is that they lose all credibility. Nobody can believe anything they say, because they habitually lie, and nobody can believe anything claimed by people who swallow the lies, even when they are shown videos, articles and tweets showing them lying. People who are gullible are who the lies are aimed at. Anyone with any sense can easily spot the gullible and the bullsitters. The former can be forgiven, as it's not deliberate. the latter are dangerous and have to be constantly shown to be bullsitting by people who have to be above reproach, cos if you are also a bullsitter then you instantly lose the moral high ground.

Trump and Johnson and Putin - all bullsitters. Lying is a way of life.

I worry what will happen after the peak, that more people will think the virus is over and not obey restrictions or that restrictions may be loosened too early

I don't think it's been posted but it's pretty cool what they did here

Our closest family friend has tested positive for the virus today and is in hospital. She's my cousin's grandma on the side I'm not related to, but has always treated me and my brothers like her own grandkids and attends all our holiday gatherings so it feels just like a close relative has it. Not sure how she got it and we've already been staying away from extended family, but she's 85 so it's hard not to be nervous. My well wishes are with anyone else whose loved ones have been hit with this!

Oh hope she's okay. x

Read an article similar and it also said people coming home from the front spread it Round their families too!

So according to early rough figures from some UK police forces for the last week, house burglaries are well down but break-ins to business premises that are currently closed is on the increase. Street drug-dealing is also much decreased now though some dealers are defying the rules to try and sell their wares.

Apparently street prostitutes aren't happy as their clientele numbers have dried up now. :D

This one's good. Some men are telling their partners that they've read that more sex for women protects them from the virus.

That's another message governments everywhere should be starting to get across now. Restrictions will need to stay in place for quite a long time after the peak. Otherwise, it will just pick up again.

Boris's letter will be sent out in stages starting tomorrow according to Sky News. London will be first as it has most deaths. They can't send them all out at once or they risk clogging up sorting offices and bringing them to a virtual standstill, preventing other important mail getting through.
I’m not even gonna read the letter tbh
I really don't see what the letter is supposed to achieve. Will people who have been defying the rules take any notice of a letter from Johnson?

So they can waste money looking like they’re doing something?

There will be nothing in the letter I don’t already know. I’m fed of people telling me how I have to live on lockdown be it Boris or people with no lives on social media, I’ve actually been taking precautions since before Boris announced he wanted us all to get infected. I stopped visiting family weeks before lockdown and was just waiting around for him to close schools.

Colleague saying that there have been more deaths than the official number and heard about someone dying at home from it when self-isolating.

This is very worrying. :(

Mind you, Germany's lowering the official death figure from this virus by apparently putting the underlying causes on some death certificates and not even mentioning Covid 19. Read that on a newspaper site yesterday.

Yeah, it's so funny to see sex workers struggle at this time. :|
