Has anybody thought that parks are going to be at nearly full capacity with people meeting up with six other people which means there will be less space for social distancing

Well Northern Ireland has already had this legal again for a week or so, so I wonder how things are going there.

What is going on with testing? Why haven't we had any numbers for a week?

I read an article today that they had the capacity for around 161k today but tested a lot less than that.

I think some of the changes are, but not on the whole. Isn't the issue with the economy that we have to get it going again? I work for a food manufacturer and while we have been impacted, we still produce food for the nation. They are forecasting the economy to not even be at the same level at the start of 2020 until 2025 and will have to react and make cuts. This is a company which has not furloughed a single staff member, so God help the rest of the privately owned companies. Major companies are starting with 10% cuts in workforces because the economy has shrunk. There comes a point where we have to strike a balance, otherwise we are going to have mass unemployment.

The issue is even though the R rate is not where it needs to be, I believe with a strong public health messaging it could be "controlled" to a degree that keeps community transmission as minimal as possible. But with the whole Cummings debacle it's totally ruined that. But I'm of the viewpoint that waiting another 1-2 months will just cripple out economy for a entire generation.

I think people understand the importance of the economy but the way it's been organised for the past 40 odd years most people care more about saving lives because the economy only works for the a minority. So a lot of it falls on deaf ears for a short period.

While I don't disagree, the wider issue is the economy funds jobs and keeps the world moving. Unfortunately if the economy shrinks we all feel the impact of it. The problem is nobody really knows the medium term impact on businesses, which yes make huge profits, but also fund jobs for us. It's a double edged sword.

I figured you might use the old trickle down theory but it misses my point that after 40 years of survival of the fittest Thatcherism people actually don't care as much because they get shit pay anyway. So to hell with going back to work to pay for the big money for the shareholders and owners.

Well maybe people don’t care, that’s their prerogative. But it works both ways. There’s an old saying about don’t bite the hand that feeds. Otherwise we will just end up with no jobs and mass unemployment. Which doesn’t help anyone especially not with the dreaded B word looming.

Deaths yesterday across Europe:

Spain 2

Italy 87

Germany 24

France 52

Turkey 28

Belgium 42

Sweden 84

Portugal 14

Ireland 6

Poland 13

Romania 13

Hungary 8

Netherlands 28

UK ... 324

There's no way we are ready to ease lockdown & open schools

yes, thousands a day. 2,000 confirmed, so more than likely it's much higher than that.

1 in 7 households have had family in their house, breaking Lockdown rules.

Thousands flocking to resort beaches in each coastal town, groups flocking together in large numbers elesewhere.

Greece is not accepting tourists from the UK. Spain is down to 2 deaths and is getting ready to reopen. An exercise in How To Do It.

The UK: hundreds dying every day. We will remain banned from the rest of the world for THEIR own good because we are the WORST IN THE WORLD based on reported excess deaths per million population that one would expect over that period.

Can there ever be a bigger condemnation of how useless Johnson and his Evil Mastermind are?

Ones to watch (yesterdays infections)

India (+8.105, Total 173k)

Peru (+6.506, Total 148k)

Chile (+3.695, Total 90k)

Mexico (+3.377, Total 81k)

Pakistan (+2.801, Total 64k)

Bangladesh (+2.523, Total 43k)

When you realise that Chile and Peru only have 19 and 32 million inhabitants and this is only the start for them

Belgium has announced only 125 new infections and Italy is losening restrictions even further allowing restrictionfree travel through the nation again

EDIT: Omg not Brazil surpassing Spain in like half the time :(

Very interesting that Scotland was much later in 'officially' relaxing the restrictions than England yet tomorrow I'm technically not allowed to meet with 5 others in a park whereas in Scotland that would be allowed
Yeh I suspected the infection rate was high still which is why it's hard to find those figures.

I had stopped posting in this thread due to heated debates with other posters, however, have still read the thread as it is a good source of information.

The rate of infection is officially 2,000 which has came down from the upto 4,000 per day we were seeing at the start of the month so effectively the infection rate has halved within the month despite restrictions being eased. Who is to say in 3-4 weeks time we won’t be in the position that Europe is now.

I find it hard to believe only 2 died in Spain yesterday and there have been instances where their deaths shoot up multiple hundreds in a day for catch ups.

You comment as if the U.K. is the only country who are flouting lockdown rules. There was an article yesterday that 20 people in Spain had a party, 2 were infected prior to the party, they then infected all of the party who then went on to infect 142 people overall and that town is now back in lockdown.

The government can be blamed for many of the deaths such as care homes however I don’t think they can be blamed for people not following the guidelines as these people would have broken them no matter what Party was leading the country.

I think the majority of this country are doing their best to get through this and following the guidelines and if people feel comfortable enough to go to a beach and distance whilst at the beach then they should be entitled to do that when it’s within the law people have been dealing with stressful lives for 11 weeks now and do want some sort of pleasure.

I think I’m summary your posts are just quite negative and we should be working together as a country to get through it rather than just shitting on the entire country when a large majority of us are doing our best.

That is a hopeful post and I'm all for hope, but reopening when the rate is still high is a lot harder to manage than when it is low. We've seen that countries where it is low can just locally quarantine people quickly wherever it appears, it subsides, and most of the country continues unabated. Indeed that's how South Korea worked throughout all of this.

Jumping the gun may lead to an unmanageable situation again. And the whole country doing their best is a little bit empty given it's the worst hit per capita.

Sage member now disagreeing with the government lifting he lockdown too soon

The thing is no-one really knows, I saw two scientists interviewed together on BBC News and one said there will be a second wave and the other didn't think there would be. They said if you had 6 of them on there then 3 would say there'll be one and three that there won't be one.

I think the UK, well more England in particular, are opening up too much too fast. Monday will be really interesting to see how the first day of school goes. But the fact is, other countries were having much fewer deaths when they began to open up again.

I am grateful that Wales seem to be prioritising friends and family, something no one can really make money off, and I don’t see the harm in people meeting up outside as long as they stay safe. But going to the beach right now is a really bad idea, as we’ve seen.

If 50% of experts think there will be a second wave that's a significant risk, they might be the wrong ones but 50% chance of a second wave seems too much. I'd rather be coming out slower at a point when one or none of the six think there would be a second wave.

I don't think it'll look like a second wave - it'll look more like a plateau. It's already slowing at a far more sluggish pace than in other European countries.
