Also anybody enjoying the delicious irony of Gavin 'leaky Colander' Williamson (sacked for lying in 2019) being sent out to defend the probity of Dominic Cummings?

It's why the public are seeing through it, he gave the "nobody would dare lie to the Prime Minister" line when at least 2 of the current cabinet have done it. They think we're utterly stupid and while a large majority might be, this has clearly touched a nerve with the public.

Not even sure when they announce we can eat inside Nandos that the public will be bothered. We want blood!

Cummings is giving a public statement and taking questions later today apparently. I don't expect him to resign himself, but at least he'll have no one to hide behind now.

The absolute audacity of trying to use his child's autism as an excuse to gain pity in all this when many parents were in the same situation is just outrageous. He truly has no shame.

I honestly think if he doesn’t resign he’s only going to get more and more hate, especially as he tries to justify it himself!

Or, to put it another way, apparently nobody would dare lie to somebody who lied to the queen.

It would appear that even after waves of angry constituents emailing in, Tories are still needing a script to show they pretend to care

It seems that Tory MPs are so thick that they don't realise people will spot this sort of cut and paste job within minutes.

The full thing is an absolute riot, he definitely needs to save some face and just resign!
Many (most?) children on the spectrum don't deal well with sudden change so it might be even worse than just admitting he was wrong. :|

Well that is true, however the point I think most people are making is that it is entirely made-up (fake news) as this thread demonstrates: https://twitter.com/jamiemcleod02/status/1264731537913925632

What this shows is that if you're a blindly loyal idiot trying to justify your blind loyalty, you don't tend to bother checking facts before tweeting them out.

So, he’s going to address the public.

The logical thing would be that he will apologise and resign. But I’m 100% certain he is not going to do that. So what is he going to say? There’s literally nothing else that will get the public onside.

Yeah I loved that thread. So logical and meticulous. The author getting blocked and then the Tory account removed was cherry on top. They just created more layers to this shitcake with lying and exploiting an entire community that has nothing to do with politics.

So, he’s going to address the public.

He's going to come out and explain his actions. "My son is autistic" blah, blah, blah. It will be another car crash attempt to try and gain sympathy from the public. Probably try and blame everything on the media and the press outside his door etc. etc. etc.

If he’s taking questions that says to me he isn’t resigning. Why take questions if you’re going. This is going to be a last stand defensive line
If he uses that his sons autistic as an excuse, I can honestly see him getting a far bigger backlash and it’s well deserved. Can we have a new election asap please

Every time I think that 'surely, they've got to see how much it's hurting them, he's going to end this', it seems like they want to delve still deeper. Sounds like the unelected Prime Minister is refusing to go quietly.

But at this point there is no civil route out that doesn't involve him going. It's completely untenable for him to still have any position.

I honestly think if he doesn’t resign he’s only going to get more and more hate, especially as he tries to justify it himself!

Can't see Cummings still being there by the end of the week. The pressure on him will just be too much.

Big event at 4pm UK time apparently.

Enough time to nip out for a bag of popcorn

Statement followed by press questions so doesn't sound like he'll resign. He's expected, according to Sky, to push the autism thing now. No-one else with him for support they say.

What about today's briefing? Assume that's at 5. Wasn't it at 4pm on the last Bank Holiday?
