I am indebted to a Guardian letter-writer for pointing out that the government's current slogan "Stay alert, control the virus, save lives" is an anagram of "Easily survives travel north to castle".

So where is the app or is that abandoned and the TTT is the only show in town? I really hope the death rate doesn't go up by the end of the month...

So I got hired to work as a call handler for the T&T scheme and it's been an absolute shambles.

We had 'training' on Microsoft Teams for one day which was essentially 30 of us watching videos and listening to a trainer for 8 hours, then we were told that we would start our shifts on the Friday and that someone would then be in contact with us in regards to the next steps. We didn't hear anything Friday, Saturday, yesterday and now today we finally got an email from someone telling us that we'll get another email 'soon' with instructions.

Complete and utter disaster. We still don't know a single thing about our job - we have no access to scripts, systems or have any sort of reading material or guides to read in advance. The agency are apparently still paying us for our 'shifts' but honestly it is amazing how badly this is being handled.

Sky News saying the WHO says we're in for a second wave in late summer/Autumn and it'll be much worse than the first. We'll see. No-one knows really do they?

I find stuff like this very unhelpful and usually the quotes are taken out of context. I feel the WHO are specifically telling everyone (not just England) to be way of a second spell. Which is to be expected as the whole of Europe is starting to relax their borders and open up amenities. The situation in England is specifically delicate as our own Government told us we could flout the rules.

The wider issue here is people in general. I mean I cannot think of anything more ridiculous than people queuing for 2-3 hours to enter Ikea. We've obviously reached the point the furloughed population have reached peak boredom. It's no wonder people are so desperate to cram together in tiny beaches. I see it in my home city as well, people flocking to spots that would not normally be as busy in regular times.

With regards to the Track & Trace. None of it surprises me at all. I've had experience of being involved in a large outsourcing project and while it starts with good intentions, it took 6 months to even be in a stable internal position so God help us from an external point of view. Can only imagine how much public money the public are burning through paying the agency.

But with masks, social distancing, work from home, Track and Trace and better knowledge of the virus and how to prevent spreading it in place how could it be worse than before?

I know we still have tons of morons ignoring all rules and that the government have done a terrible job handling this but aren't deaths and new cases really low now? And no other country have had a second wave have they?

Does anyone actually know of any schools in their area in England that have re-opened today? The media saying many kids are back, between 40% and 70% of R and Yr1 but never actually name any. However according to a lady I know who works in our LEA offices, no LB Newham schools have made any change today as they think it's too soon. Maybe on 15th.

I may be wrong, but I believe our numbers aren’t ‘really low’ compared to other countries when they started loosening the lockdown. Something isn’t working as well over here and it’s probably those tons of morons and the government doing a terrible job.

Oh, I shouldn't have said 'really low' actually. I just had a look at recent figures. :(

Unfortunately while there have been idiots who have completely ignored the advice and carried on as normal, there has been a large amount of people who have been completely isolated from friends and family since the end of March and I'm worried about the mental health impact it will have on those individuals. It's all fine and well saying the lockdown has to be tighter and longer but it means that 'innocent' people will have to suffer because of the actions of others. Can we really expect people - particularly those with mental health issues, the elderly and those living alone - to go from March til the autumn/winter without being able to go to the house of a family member or hug them? People in relationships who are living in seperate houses? Etc?

There comes a point where people will probably just give up and accept that life isn't worth living if it has to be spent isolated and indoors.

But it isn’t the seeing friends and family part that people are taking issue with. I have had my parents and brother in my garden recently and we socially distanced. It’s better than nothing.

The problem is the government trying to reopen everything already and people naturally assuming we can just go back to normal. It’s not really safe for boards of people to spend all day on the beach. That is a sacrifice people can still make.

I’m interested to see how things went with schools in England today because they are the only nation sending them back with deaths still so high.

The government doesn’t care about anyone’s mental or physical health, only money.

No offence Chris but the WHO said that the IFR was 3.4% back in January and it has turned out to be significantly under 1% (approx. 0.5-0.7%). They are certainly overcautious at the best of times.

Granted - the quote has probably been taken out of context for dramatic effect.

Think a second wave in winter could be worse if the virus changes.

So today new infections in the uk is 1570 their lowest since 1/3/20 but to me that seems quite a lot does it not?

741 currently in ICU

This is illuminating to compare how the UK is doing.

(badly)

Well Czechia just released a list of countries which are low, medium and high risk with from 15 June people able to freely travel to all the low/medium risk countries. Guess which one the UK is?

Sweden the only other high risk, and WE had a lockdown - utterly, utterly humiliating.

Weekend briefings have been dropped due to ‘low TV ratings’ because obviously we’re taking tips from Trump
Are they now trying to suggest the all the lying, scapegoating, and incompetence is just for entertainment value? And they’ve been losing weekend audiences so they need to drop them?

Always going to happen, the beginning of the phase out. Next it will be the they will take place every other day, then it will be one a week.

Again to me it sends out the wrong message to the public, it sends the message that it's nearly over, when don't get wrong I believe we are over the worst of it, there's still a lot to be done.

Absolute disgrace some newspaper headlines apparently rejoicing at 'letting Brits have summer holidays'. Without quarantining for 14 days as was originally proposed, travel on aircraft will lead to a rise in coronavirus cases once the travellers get back to the UK as it is practically impossible to social distance on a plane. So even if the country people are travelling too is low risk like Greece, the very transport will lead to the virus spread.
