I just got a phone news update saying he was ALREADY no.1. Interestinf thwy released that on a Sunday, when a lot will believe the official charts are still released this. Lying fake media!!

I think it’s number 1 on the Big Top 40 which, although not official, is a more popular chart show. The general public don’t care if it’s the real chart or not

Michael Ball & Captain Tom Moore on 36,000, The Weeknd on 14,000

Oh wow, Oh wow :o. Great lead already. Come on Captain Tom Moore!

Unless the list I found is out of date this will be only the 5th song to get to #1 in three or more different versions ('Do They Know It's Christmas?' and 'Unchained Melody' did it 4 times each and 'With A Little Help From My Friends' and 'Spirit In The Sky' 3 times each). Assuming it holds on of course (which it looks like it very likely will if it's on 36k sales already).

Β

Who'd have ever seen Michael Ball racking up multiple #1 albums and even a potential #1 single in the past couple of years

'Three Lions' had 4 runs at #1 if you consider the 1998 run to be the same song as the 1996 run (the two versions have had their sales combined in the download/streaming era so that seems reasonable but I know they're counted in some sources as two different #1s so there is an asterisk attached).

I'm only counting multiple spells in the same chart run.

You'll Never Walk Alone has technically reached #1 in 3 versions already, although one of these was the last of a triple A-side for Robson & Jerome *.* (as well as The Crowd and Gerry And The Pacemakers versions) so this would be its 4th.

Fair - in that case this would definitely be a first, yes.

Ah, well that wasn't included in the list I found  only the third song to get #1 in 4 different versions then if you count that. x

Little Mix are showing some staying power. :o Hopefully it can repeak at some point although maybe that's a big ask.

Β

I think that's a big ask on the same level as asking someone to provide you with the forthcoming week's winning lottery numbers. But I hope it holds steady and solidifies itself as a decent hit for them!

Yes @ Vera making it into the top 20 on the First Look chart. I would have liked a play of We'll Meet Again.

Β

Break Up Song showing the staying power I predicted.

Hope both hold on or climb, happy the Michael ball looks to be safely number 1

Katherine/Vera have started to fall on iTunes now - really hope they can stay Top 40 for Friday would be great to see Vera return to the Top 40 after 60+ years!

He's even tweeted it and everything! Similar thing happened with Matt Lucas after they had him on the phone after he went in at #34 but he posted a screenshot of he download chart being all "WE DONE IT!" I know that nowadays the general public aren't aware of who is #1 but the amount of misinformation I have to correct can be frustrating. It would at least be easier if they couldn't get away with calling it "The Official Big Top 40"

By the same token the 'general public' presumably don't really care that much about who's #1 on that chart either though.

This tbh  I think chart fanatics forget it’s only us and stans of artists that actually care about the charts. Most people wouldn’t have a clue who is/isn’t in the charts and use guides such as the Spotify charts and Big Top 40 as their information source.

I would be curious to know if there is anyone out there who's a devoted follower of the Big Top 40 and really into chart stats etc. who legitimately thinks it's more important than the actual charts :') I'm sure there's probably at least one somewhere...

Yeah would be nice to see vera stay top 40 but as TYBP dropped from 5 to 34 by week end I really dont see it happening

Must be only one that likes the simplicity of demi Smith's chorus

Probably not. But the β€œnewsworthy” number 1s (like this one or something like 3 Lions) are probably good for small talk chit chat and therefore it’s no surprise media outlets would rather report a chart that’s more quick to react.

Β

Eg β€œDid you hear that 3 Lions is number 1 in the [big top 40] chart?” when it’s actually at its most popular

is probably better than β€œDid you hear that 3 Lions may get to number 1 at the end of the week [ie midweek number 1]”

And is definitely better than β€œDid you hear that 3 Lions got to number 1 in the [official] charts today?” (almost a week after it’s peak sales, and it’s actual *moment* has passed)

Really happy for this weeks number 1 however slightly Pissed of Dua lipa hasn’t managed a number 1 with her 3 banging tunes.

Future Nostalgia singles really are like the sweetener era of 2020.

Β

Album #1 but no number one singles yet they’ve all been huge hits.

Β

I bet when she does next get a #1 single too it will be a with a track what’s good but less good than what missed out as well ;)

Β

Β

Main thing is she got the albums #1 though

Can Michael Ball hold on to No 1 with no streams? Will be interesting to see how far ahead he is tomorrow. Based on last weeks numbers he's guaranteed Top 5 already but he needs LadBaby type numbers to be Number 1. What do people think his chances are?
