Not everything is about you, I didn’t even mention you in my post.

The public who are right now complaining that people are protesting in a pandemic? They are delusional if they think I care whether they’ll accept social distancing for years or not because they’ll be hypocrites.

It may be years until we get a vaccine and that’s even if we do get one. What will be the alternative to social distancing to keep people safe?

What future or life would anyone have if we had to social distance for years. It’s a ridiculous statement to make.

Some of it is though. I’m not accusing you personally of that or anyone in this thread necessarily, but if you actually look at some of the comments on social media, they are completely tone deaf to the issue.

I agree with you that so many people are arrogant or oblivious to the issue! Twitter is the absolute worst for that, I’ve avoided twitter for that reason.

I am married to a person of color and therefore I know firsthand the struggles of POC.

No matter how hard you try and put concealer on your opinion that protests during this time shouldn't happen, I just won't buy it and can't help but think you're selfish and privileged.

If I’m selfish for not wanting a virus to spread and potentially kill friends or family then call me Selfish? I hate this mentality of if somebody has a difference opinion it makes you something else? I’m far from privileged too and I’ve worked for everything I’ve got.

Apart from maybe one person, who's said they shouldn't happen? I'm right behind the protests and I'm considering going to one, I'm just concerned about the lack of social distancing in some cases. Please don't generalise. I don't deny my white privilege, as I've said it's not for me or any white person to say there shouldn't be protests, and I'm not.

I’ve complained about people attending the beaches, I’ve complained about people having mass gatherings, I’ve complained about people breaking the rules. That’s fine

I’ve complained about 20,000 attending a protest. Then racism comes into play?

Some really intelligent people have no changed their tune in this thread. Like I said before if this was a Un-Lockdown protest people would have a very different tune.

I mean, yes, exactly. It is different. With protesting and activism is that when eyes are on a movement, that is the best time to go, and it's not like anyone will stop the most passionate. It's dangerous for BAME people in the world whether in or out. In a way that it is not for white people.

I know Lee, I know. But privilege is intersectional, your skin colour is just one component of your advantages in society, something that a black person in the same economic circumstances as you would not have.

Oh dear.

Elaborate?

I’m in full support of the movement, but don’t think it’s the right time for protests off over 20,000 because I don’t want a virus to spread and kill thousands of more people. As I’ve stated social media is so important right now and is the perfect platform to continue the movement until we are at least in phase 4 coming out of phase 4.

You calling everything you disagree with ridiculous is getting really tiring now. If the people don’t accept it, then maybe they’ll just have to accept continued illness and death.

And Rooney, I’m really sorry but comparing BLM protests to Celebrating football is probably the most tone deaf comment I’ve ever seen on Buzzjack.

Social media is very often driven by events in the real world, far more than it is simple discussion. And it's those events in the real world that get the people capable of making change to take notice.

Social media in the last two weeks has resulted into a lot of changes already been made across the world, 100% things need to change and I want things to change so we’re all equal.

So it's OK for one group to protest, but not the other group during a pandemic. For the record, I disagree with protesting for both during a pandemic. But I am just highlighting the hypocrisy, thanks for taking the bait.

I'll gladly be hypocritcal if these protests spark change and eventually lead to the end of all the injustices I mentioned.

Don’t respond to my posts then as all of your points I disagree with and vice versa. Good riddance.

I mean I didn't even know VE day was such a thing until this year!

Well it was the 75th Anniversary this year, which is why they moved the Bank Holiday.

I will make the point again for the 3rd time in this thread: There is considerably lower risk right now out in open spaces with much lower background levels of virus in the community than when everyone was going down to the ENCLOSED space of a supermarket to do their weekly shopping during the height of a global pandemic, not to mention it was absolutely fine to run the Cheltenham Festival (60,000 people) when R was >3.

Also- it is LUDICROUS to suggest protesting for a global human rights movement is eqivalent to going down the beach to top-up your tan.

Don’t respond to my posts then as all of your points I disagree with and vice versa. Good riddance.

I’m sorry, have I just been banished or something?

It’s just so difficult to take you seriously at all, every response you make is centred around your selfish desire to end lockdown. I’ll reply to whoever I want, thanks. I do tend to target idiotic comments though, just so you know.

I think you will actually find the majority of my comments regarding ending lockdown were centred around seeing family which is now possible.

but really what you should not want is while police racist person kill a person of color!!!

Virus killing people will come to an end as soon as vaccine comes to life but unfortunately there is no such a thing as vaccine that will stop white privilege and/or stop killing of people of color and end the racism!!! The only way to make a chance in this injustice system is by protesting.

Think about it more clearly!!!

I personally do not plan on attending any protests because I am claustrophobic and the pandemic has resulted in me not leaving my house at all in 3 months due to feeling incredibly anxious. But this topic has been on my mind non-stop so I wanted to help out in other ways!! Here are some links for you guys if you also want to do the same without attending any protests (which I totally understand the intentions behind - stay safe if you are going):

PETITIONS - Obviously there are hundreds out there, but here are just a selection of some that I signed recently that still need to reach their goals:

DONATIONS - I am planning to donate tonight but have been weighing up where to split my money between. TOTALLY get that not everyone can donate right now, I'm sure there are other methods out there to contribute - one I thought of is searching for BLM playlists on YouTube where creators are donating their ad revenue to BLM charities:

Again there will be way more organisations / GoFundMes out there (any recommendations welcomed) but these are ones I keep coming across and noted down.

Honestly this has been SUCH a wake up call. Planning to fully educate myself further starting with a book called 'Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race' by Reni Eddo-Lodge.

Social media is a cesspit that needs rapid intervention:

This is a great read — succinctly captures my thoughts better than I ever could. Facebook (especially) and other social media giants are desperately in need of government regulation.

Relevant, as well as Zuckerberg's recent comments.
