It’s spiralling out of control in Berlin right now. Only a few weeks ago we had only had around 10k cases and this past 7 days alone was over 5k! 1040 today :/ a new record again. In the first wave we only registered more than 250 cases a day a couple of times, were now 4 times that and the city has decided to make masks mandatory on 10 streets. Meanwhile, 600 people attended a fetish party at the weekend so everyone who lives here is clearly taking this super seriously.

Had it up to high do’ wi all these selfish pricks just ignoring common sense

Just found out that my aunt who's in a care home has contracted COVID-19. Her health hasn't been the best so I'm dreading the worst.

Very sorry to hear that. :(

Sorry to hear that BB, I hope that she is able to make a full recovery soon. The slight saving grace being that now there is much greater knowledge about the best way to treat this virus.

Wishing her all the best.

Indeed. I wonder how the virus enters care homes anyway, when care home staff and the few visitors allowed will be wearing PPE and being very careful?

Ain't noone sticking to any restrictions for Xmas. January is gonna be a warzone...

This is the thing - even if cases are low in Cornwall but high in Manchester, surely you can't say -well Cornwall can have Christmas, but Manchester can't. The Northern Tory MPs are already starting to put pressure, probably as they know the North doesn't forget so their newly won seats will be on the line.

In some slightly positive news, I've been under Tier 2 for about 10 days now and the cases appear to be slowing down here now and decreasing. Mind you the City has been a complete ghost town for 10 days so it's not surprising really.

Northern Ireland now has more people hospitalised with Cornavirus than there were than in its original peak back in April, and the 13 deaths recorded yesterday is also close to April's peak. Then when you combine that the usual winter hospitalisations that are due over the next few months, I have a feeling that unfortunately our current circuit breaker might end up being extended.

Belgium has broke its record for most daily hospitalisations as well and is set to pass the peak of March 28th (2 weeks into lockdown) tomorrow already :/

This is gonna be a mess

They have set up a Northern Research Group already to influence the cabinet policy!

Tonight they gonna announce in France 4 weeks Lockdown starting this friday after reporting 523 death from yesterday.

It's crazy how much it has spiralled out of control in France. Even with regards to compliance in the UK yet we haven't had the violence etc. experienced in some other European countries. Personally I don't believe the curfews have much effect, if anything I think it just encourages more people to rebel.

Funny enough, Bristol have just moved in to Tier 1+. This means they now have 8 covid marshalls for a population of 460,000. Brilliant.

How long until England implement a mini lockdown of some sorts then? France and Germany about to and you can bet Italy won't be too far away.

I give it 9 days if we're following the approach of other countries..

Yes I agree. A week to a fortnight.

Have you heard today where if people number restrictions inside are still in force at Christmas police WILL act on tip-offs and break up family gatherings. Even for Christmas dinner. Sky News mentioned it. The snitches all alone will be twitching their curtains and ringing up then.

I think they’ll aim to ‘extend’ the Christmas holidays with a lockdown for a month before Christmas. I would expect schools to remain open but universities to suspend in person teaching altogether to allow students to go home for Christmas.

Deaths in Wales appear to have shot up today. 37 reported after only 7 yesterday and around that number or lower for the past few weeks.

Well not saying I don't think it is ridiculous, there's a Christmas shaped hole here which is gonna spread like wildfire. If there are restrictions in place, we should probably do a sweepstake on who is likely to get sacked when the photos are branded about on Twitter/Daily Mail. This will be like Kim Kardashian's 40th birthday party multiplied by 10000x

Well, Boris himself won’t be able to see all his children on Christmas Day under the current rules.
Shall I hold off re-joining my gym for another 6 months then lol can't be affording to piss more money away...

Would they want to see him?

The government are now in an almost impossible position when it comes to Christmas. Unless the number of cases comes down significantly (which, in turn, means the R number must come down) then easing the restrictions is far too high a risk. However, they can't go too far along the lines of offering a relatively normal Christmas as a carrot for complying with existing (or tightened) restrictions because the numbers could still be too high in December.

At this point, when asked what is the best thing to do, it is tempting to answer with "Well, I wouldn't start from here".
