January 24, 20214 yr Many were social-distancing and it doesn't pass as easily outside. They need the public onside and many on Twitter now saying it's just a means to make money. Lose the public support and that's it. You make a fair point but you either follow the rules or you don’t, that’s how you stop this you decrease your social contacts, the amount of times one particular family go up and down our street in their car - 12 times I counted on Saturday, where are they possibly going like?? At the end of the day don’t follow them and risk getting a fine and worse risk getting Covid simple!
January 24, 20214 yr We need the public onside so people are not taking the piss. I don't think it's a way to make money, it's a way to ensure people stay at home and only come out for daily exercise. Then just maybe we might be able to grab a beer in a pub by May. They were abiding by the rules and out for a daily walk in the snow though and, mainly in London, over zealous cops handed out fines in parks. That's just the way to p**s people off more and make them do what they like. Edited January 24, 20214 yr by common sense

January 24, 20214 yr Do you know for a fact they were all following the rules all of the time? No but do the cops have tape measures?
January 24, 20214 yr Point being they may have not been social distancing and maybe touching sleighs etc hence the fact the rule has to be overall and not exceptions made for snow days.
January 24, 20214 yr Sorry but actually discussing kids sledges ‘touching’ outside?? Have we lost the plot here? There’s being cautious of the virus and being completely neurotic and paranoid.
January 24, 20214 yr It’s just an example of how the virus can spread in a social setting that’s all. Get hunkered down between now and spring and we can come out of it for the summer instead of endless lockdowns
January 24, 20214 yr The vaccination program is going really well. 491,970 people recieved their first dose today - the highest daily total so far. That's without a lot of vaccination centers not currently 24/7. The current rate is ~1% of the adult population a day being vaccinated - that's crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if we hit 600-700,000 people being vaccinated daily by the end of next week. I hope with the success so far that they will deliver second doses sooner rather than later.
January 25, 20214 yr It’s just an example of how the virus can spread in a social setting that’s all. Get hunkered down between now and spring and we can come out of it for the summer instead of endless lockdowns I feared this was going to happen just because Covid doesn't spread quite as much outside as inside doesn't mean it is responsible to abandon all distancing rules outside. Hopefully there won't be any more snow this winter, when it is just being used as an excuse by many to break Covid guidelines, I usually like snow but not this year. January 25, 20214 yr Sky News saying that all dogs and cats may have to be vaccinated as it's feared they can contract Covid and pass it on to humans. Are you p*ssing sh*tting me I’m about to give up. At this rate, how things are is looking to just become the new way of life, we are going to be caged up until we die it seems, or risk spreading this sodding virus.
January 25, 20214 yr What I expect will happen (but this is just foolish speculation) is schools will probably re-open after the Feb half term but it won't be until Easter by the time there'll be some 'gradual' relaxation of restrictions. I'm talking non-essential retail, personal services/gyms there. Hospitality won't likely open until mid-July based on the fact the Gov has given local authorities power to enforce such, they very quietly announced this a few days back. Plus, contrary to what was replied to me about my point on whether vaccinated people can spread the virus, Van-Tam said they still can spread it so I think long-term Winter lockdowns will become the norm unfortunately however with (pretty much) everything being open during the Summer. I think the only viable way to pre-2020 life would be if covid deaths fall to a similar annual level as the flu (c. 20k) i.e. it becomes a level "acceptable" to society. But who knows how long that would take. It is shit though as foreign holidays seem a long way off and to be quite honest, not worth the hassle anyway imo... At least the vaccination rollout does appear to be going very well and it seems the new variants shouldn't pose as big a problem as we perhaps initially feared.

They’ve had the power since July last year, it was just extending the deadline of expiry. The main purpose is to control risks. The Telegraph are reporting that pubs/restaurants are to open at Easter which will just the hope/intention rather than anything definitive.
January 25, 20214 yr My two cents is if they open at Easter then something else will have to give e.g. locking us down in our own countries completely until the vaccine programme is complete. Otherwise, we are just going to keep going round on this never ending cycle. I don't want us to be in any form of lockdown ever again with covid and imo we have the opportunity to do it now. We need to get community transmission as low as possible before opening up again. Also I am pretty sure with the vaccines is that they do not know if it stops you carrying and passing on. I don't think there is much evidence to suggest that yet, which is why the trial data is going to be really important and also the live records once people have the two doses.
January 25, 20214 yr Author @1353702214678798338 No/little reduction in vaccine efficacy against the new varients. Good news !
January 25, 20214 yr Some better news on the new infections and deaths today too in terms of numbers despite the fact it was a weekend data set. Still 39k in hospitals with c19 and 4K in ICU still the highest than at any time durig the pandemic and the highest death toll in Europe. Edited January 25, 20214 yr by steve201
January 25, 20214 yr Rioting and anti-social behaviour in the Netherlands as people protest about a strict curfew introduced yesterday. Cars set on fire and supermarkets looted and one Dutch mayor told Sky News "We're heading for Civil war soon. People have had enough!" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55796126 Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has condemned weekend riots against newly imposed coronavirus restrictions as "criminal violence". Rioters attacked police and set cars and bikes on fire to protest against a curfew introduced on Saturday. In the southern city of Eindhoven, protesters threw fireworks, looted supermarkets and smashed shop windows. There were smaller protests in Amsterdam, and in some cities and towns around the country. More than 200 people have been detained, police said. "This has nothing to do with protest, this is criminal violence and we will treat it as such," Mr Rutte told reporters on Monday. A Covid testing centre was also set alight. Edited January 25, 20214 yr by common sense
January 25, 20214 yr Did anyone see Therese Coffey making a complete fool of herself on GMB this morning, ending the interview by turning the webcam off when Piers pushed her on what she found insulting, relating to obesity and old age being covid factors? He was quoting back exactly what she'd just said and then went on to say he was being insulting! She said the reason for the high UK death rates is more elderly and obese. Got angry when he pushed her on it. She then when on to moan about the interview starting late. It was late because they were interviewing a holocaust survivor. Every time she's on she manages to cock it up. Moaned that they'd made her late to get to other broadcasters afterwards. Not a great morning for the government. :( Edited January 25, 20214 yr by common sense

A Covid testing centre was also set alight. It is a mess here, but I'm pretty sure 90% of them don't even know what they're protesting for. Many have recognised the usual football hooligans in the crowds so who knows, The city of Eindhoven is a mess, they looted so many stores. Stores around the country are literally protecting their property by barricading it with planks and stuff, because the damages are theirs to pay if they turn out to be the victim of these criminals. There's already mess in Rotterdam now, so I can only fear what is next to come. I am angry as f*** along with the 99.9% of the nation that DOES stick to the curfew and has the rational brainfunction to realise that more restrictions were needed to get cases down. They have been falling at a very slow rate and were stuck around 5.2k for a long ass time. Today was a good day with just over 4k but the hospitals have been at the same peak for weeks now
