July 19, 20213 yr Yes, he's working in a 'limited capacity'. @1416660546665996290 Even less than usual, then.
July 19, 20213 yr Apparently Johnson was going to do a speech on "Freedom Day" summoning the spirit of Churchill with victory over the virus. FOR PETE'S SAKE IT'S NOT 1945 IS IT But instead he's cowering inside having to self isolate after trying to worm his way out of it by trying to go on some pilot scheme to avoid it and then lying about trying to get out of self isolation. It's staggering to think that at least one person within Downing Street thought that speech was a good idea.
July 19, 20213 yr It's staggering to think that at least one person within Downing Street thought that speech was a good idea. Just heard on the radio that the most played track on radio stations in the UK today has been FREEDOM by either Wham or George Michael. Different songs I know. No idea how true it is as I don't listen to radio much but could understand it in a way.
July 19, 20213 yr Even less than usual, then. You do really hate the man don't you. What's he ever done to you? Baffles me. I mean I disliked Corbyn, Abbott and have no time for Starmer but wouldn't say I hate them like you do Boris. Saddens me in a way when he's doing what he sees as his best. Am sure he wouldn't KNOWINGLY make bad or wrong decisions about Covid as it could be career suicide.
July 19, 20213 yr This is one of the most frustrating and manipulative things to come out of this last 18 months as well - labelling anyone who is hesitant about this ONE vaccine as an 'antivaxxer'. It's very clever language used to paint these people as nutjobs who think Bill Gates is installing a micropchip in our veins when really (speaking for me personally) I'm actually very pro-vaccine. *shrugs* I have no issue with anyone taking a vaccine if they want to. I just totally disagree with that bonkers post earlier stating it should be mandatory. I didn't say it should be mandatory, I said I disagreed with people actively avoiding the vaccine - people who are vulnerable - and then getting covid and taking up beds in the hospital. To me that is like someone putting their hand in the fire when they've been told not to and then bleating about how they weren't warned enough and how they'll sue.
July 19, 20213 yr What I don't see is practical solutions. It boggles me for example that everyone is handwringing about how younger people aren't getting the vaccines while not doing a single thing to make it easier to get them. Why are they open when people are in school/college/work and expecting people to get time off to go to them? Schedule them at free times and you'll see soaring uptake. Or if it's that important, offer an incentive. Even something like a free donut or an amazon voucher would get people going down.

I can’t think of a single positive contribution from him in the past two years.

Am sure he wouldn't KNOWINGLY make bad or wrong decisions about Covid as it could be career suicide. His dithering and incompetence has led to tens of thousands of deaths from covid. He has presided over the biggest Covid-related economic slump in the G7. His constant lies have made other countries see the UK as a country that can't be trusted. His cuts to the aid budget (going against a manifesto commitment) will lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths. He has taken away my right to seek short-term work in the EU - and boasted about it. He refuses to be accountable to anyone and considers the House of Commons to be an inconvenience. Maybe he is "doing his best". I could "do my best" in they Open Golf. That doesn't change the fact that I'd be terrible and would soon be thrown off the course for holding the other players up. He is clearly not up to the job and the sooner people like you open their eyes and look beyond the fact that he's got funny hair, the sooner we can end this nightmare.

Can you not still get a short term visa to work in an EU country?

You are aware that with the emergence of the Delta variant he swept it under the carpet and hoped it would go away, before it became abundantly clear it wouldn't and thus sowing the seeds for it to rip through the population? He delayed adding India to the red list because HE wanted to fly over in pursuit of a trade deal, so what's happening right now with the exponential boom in case numbers is his fault - squarely. July 19, 20213 yr Can you not still get a short term visa to work in an EU country? Only if I'm prepared to pay €100 per country on the off-chance of getting a job there. That's assuming the country allows me to get a visa without a job offer.
July 19, 20213 yr I think it depends where you go as Germany is quite liberal if you’re coming from like US or now the UK. But it’s a pain that we need to do it for each country or apply to a Schengen system that might not be valid everywhere (eg Blue Card that isn’t valid in IE or DK) I have less rights than before but mostly maintained rights so long as I don’t leave Germany. The second I do I have nothing and now I have More limitations and conditions than before
July 20, 20213 yr Just heard on the radio that the most played track on radio stations in the UK today has been FREEDOM by either Wham or George Michael. Different songs I know. No idea how true it is as I don't listen to radio much but could understand it in a way. Well, Wham! lyrics: "I don;t want your freedom" so anyone playing it would be making a political statement about how moronic it is, or else they don't listen to lyrics. The other one has "Well, it looks like the road to heaven But it feels like the road to hell" But sure, everybody celebrating "Freedom" if you like.....

Am sure he wouldn't KNOWINGLY make bad or wrong decisions about Covid as it could be career suicide. In answer to your questions, his closest adviser today has made these allegations: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-57854811 He was ready to risk killing the Queen. He didn;t care about anyone 80 and over. He didn;t believe the NHS would be overwhelmed. He didn;t believe anyone under 80 would die. He lies about everything. He believes the Telegraph is his boss, not the the Nation. Everything he touches turns to shit, he has no conscience, is a complete moron, and everyone who agrees with he has done and is doing shows themselves to be exactly the same as he is. They don't believe in facts and truth and fairness and caring about other people: "I'm fed up with Lockdown so f*** everyone else, I've had my jabs, I'm sure I'll be OK." It's the same mentality as those who claim "we survived the War, we can survive this". When tens of millions actually didn't survive the war, the economy and environment was shattered, and they weren't even born or had to live through it. But try to claim it as if they single-handedly endured terrible times and rose shining like a heroic beacon of god-blessed, halo-drenched semi-divine-ness. While actually just using it as an excuse to allow 130,000 people to die, and then contemplate making a Churchill-styled speech as if that is the same thing at all. Which Johnson was about to do till his advisers told him he was a f***ing insane egomaniac and it would backfire. Like he changed his mind when he changed the rules so he didn;t have to self-isolate cos he's rich. All these things are either facts or quite likely because Johnson is a provable habitual liar. Johnson denying everything like Bart Simpson when he gets caught doesn;t make them not true. My assessment is not political, my assessment on any leader is not political, it's based on who they show themselves to be and what they do. I am happy criticise any leader and any party, I think that's quite clear. Some parties and leaders need less criticism than others. Johnson is the worst leader in my lifetime, and that's saying quite something given the competition.

What has this sad excuse for a politician done? This wannabe dictator has started culture wars, dragged us out of the EU after making promise after promise about the single market before the opinion poll was conducted, he is a charlatan, a liar, and just an all round piece of shit. Worst "prime minister" in HISTORY. A giant turd left on the steps of Downing Street. Hard pass. Oh, he is also a neoliberal aristocrat and part and parcel of the born to rule disco citizens elite.
July 20, 20213 yr Ridiculous. September you will need to show vaccine proof for clubs, but not now... If they had annouced previously that it would happen on the day most restrictions would be lifted (Say back in May/June), there would likely have been a lot more younger people getting vaccinated by now. Instead they can now go in with a negative test over the next 6-8 weeks... I'm glad vaccination is being opened to some children (12+) but I see no reason why it can't be open to all. As always, disappointed by the announcements. I've also seen a lot of places quite full coming home from work. Sadly I feel we're going to see cases go sky high the next week or two. I just hope we don't see a new variant emerge given the millions of new cases likely to occur in the coming weeks. :( They can't do it now as most of the core audience have not been double jabbed.- I think as a policy that is pretty discriminatory against young people. I would suspect the take-up rate will increase now amongst 18-25. Although I do agree if this was the plan all along it is slightly contradictory, but from a business perspective it gives people time to get to used. I'm more interested to see whether the likes of Revolution, Yates etc. have to follow the same rules - the bars with dancefloors but aren't really nightclubs as per. I've been out to a few places over the past 24 hours and I'd say mask compliance is 90%+ still. Good to see people and businesses taking the lead against the Government policy. I really do think the Tories have missed a trick here- fingers crossed Labour can capitalise on a few own goals here.
July 20, 20213 yr Author Even though it's from the 'Tony Blair' (shudder) institute, there are some sensible suggestions here: https://institute.global/policy/risks-and-r...g-right-balance Full Recommendations: NHS COVID PassTemporarily mandate the use of the NHS COVID Pass for potential super-spreader events and settings, such as large sporting matches, indoor performances and nightclubs – until case rates are lower. NHS Test and TraceImmediately replace the automatic need to isolate for the fully vaccinated (after they have been contact-traced) with test to isolate instead. This would involve the use of a rapid lateral-flow test within three days of an individual being contacted to confirm negative infection.Investigate new approaches to automatic isolation for the partially vaccinated and unvaccinated.Replace automatic ten-day isolation periods for those who are confirmed positive with a “test-to-release” strategy after seven days.Improve the support for those needing to isolate. This would include full salary support, accommodation and a streamlined system for accessing financial support.Continue to advocate for regular mass population-level testing to control spread of the virus. Vaccinating Adolescents Vaccinate adolescents aged between 12 and 18 with the Pfizer vaccine until other vaccines are approved for that age group. Vaccine Data Publish cases, hospitalisations and deaths in absolute numbers – broken down by vaccine type and vaccine status. Mask-Wearing Extend the requirement for masks to be worn in crowded public spaces where the risk of transmission is high until a significant proportion of the youngest eligible age group is able to be fully vaccinated.Produce a list of places where masks continue to be actively recommended, such as public transportation, supermarkets and crowded shops.Create a supportive, clear communications campaign around mask-wearing, also outlining the realistic ambition that masks will only be fully removed once the global virus situation is under control.Allow local authorities to create a system where the use of face masks is based on prevalence estimates, meaning there is no requirement to wear masks if prevalence is very low but if local outbreaks did occur, they could be re-introduced very quickly.
July 20, 20213 yr Re the nightclubs thing, I think it's very optimistic to assume they'll even still be open by late September.
July 20, 20213 yr Clubs should never have been reopened in the first place without safeguards. Same for any other high risk activity. Fine sure we need to start living with it and get back to normal but you test/vaccinate for freedom. If you use mass rapid testing ask the key to unlock events and make it mandatory then you get people to take on regular free testing as part of their daily routine until they are vaccinated which means that the most mobile populations are regularly tested and while rapid testing isn’t 100% accurate it’s better than no f***ing testing and can capture folks earlier and stop them spreading to as many people. Once everyone has had ample chance to get a vaccine then you charge for tests to encourage vax take up in younger populations without being accused of discrimination. Containment needs multiple strategies. Masks are one but test/vaccinate for freedom is a really good and strong tool that the UK is completely ignoring. It has been widely attributed to helping to end Wave 3 in Europe while reopening the economy. I no longer need negative tests to go shopping or eat outdoors but it’s still required for the high risk activity like going to the gym or mass events. Just look at the Euro2020 super spreading event. The fan zone in Glasgow was responsible for less infections over the whole comp than a single bus of fans that travelled to the Sco/Eng game. The fan zone had a test for freedoms policy in place. It works and it works well. Waiting until September is dumb, the horse has bolted and is dead and burried by that point.
July 20, 20213 yr I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I walked into town in my lunch break and found that everyone in the shops were still wearing masks. Went to ASDA for a weekly food shop last night and I'd say 95% of people were still wearing masks. Common sense prevails.
